I'm thinking of starting over with another character (got some prepared through Character Creation), and focus on story a bit more (I skip most of it with my current character). Interested in joining in? I'm not done with my first character by a long shot but just sending a curious inquiry

Main projects: - Pillars of Eternity (Preparing for WM2) - Elder Scrolls Online (3 regions completed~ lvl 34) Side-projects: - Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 (Preparing for TOR but I kind of dropped TOR, ESO is much better) I've swayed my opinion quite a lot, I kind of hated ESO a long time ago but it has shaped up quite a bit. Not as many players (which was my main irritation). It's linear and kind of repetetive but I do enjoy the exploration and it is currently the only massive world (proper) First-Person RPG that I know of. If only TOR had been First-Person as well, with lightsabers and stuff. That would've been lovely. TOR would've been much better had it only had a more open world as well... I wonder when there'll be an EVE type Fantasy MMORPG. Create your own farm, trade with the kingdom/feed troops, grow your business, hire guards~ it could be pretty epic. Isn't EverQuest Next trying to do something like it...? (IIRC) Too bad it isn't first-person. Speaking of which: Too bad there's no Mirror's Edge mechanics in any of the MMO's! FFS! T-T

Update #104: Last Chance...
Osvir replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
This question might be better for the LOER category but I'm wondering as this Update is relevant... Would it be legal to take photos of the card/board and play online? (I was thinking of GMing a game if anyone is interested, PM for hands and a Thread for the game) Looking forward to LOER a lot too :D- 30 replies

Update #104: Last Chance...
Osvir replied to BAdler's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Hi! Wanted to try and give the Localization Builder a try, but this is as far as I get: (infinity load) I don't have Excell, probably why this happens (it's looking for Excell I presume?). After watching the video I thought it'd work without Excell to use the program and that if I wanted to read the files I'd need Excell (I guess I was being naive and wishful thinking? ) What's the Process called so I can close it without having to restart my computer?- 30 replies

No Roleplay? :-(
Osvir replied to Dykeras's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Dual-Wielding Paladin, Flames of Devotion. Be sure to have a tank that can take the bulk of the damage head on, and have your Paladin attack from the side/engage after the tank. I'm trying it out right now, a DPS Paladin (I've just got to Gilded Vale so it's not much to go on but, my Paladin has 14 defeated out of 24 enemies slain, only took out one of them solo in Valewood, has most damage done, highest single damage etc.). But like I said, it's way too little info to go on (Can only compare with Heodan and Calisca), and I need to recruit some more companions to get some real data. My Paladin is a Darcozzi Paladini, Fire Godlike. I'm aiming for these Class abilities: - Zealous Focus - Sworn Enemy - Deprive the Unworthy - Coordinated Attacks - Sacred Immolation Might add in Righteous Soul and Inspiring Triumph depending on what I feel like later. And these Class talents: - Intense Flames - Fires of Darcozzi Palace These general talents for more stereotypical Paladin look/feel...: - Weapon Style Knight/Soldier (Sword/War Hammer) - Weapon and Shield Style (Or Two-Handed Weapon Style for Morningstar/Great Sword) - Scion of Flame ... Or these if you want more of a damage build: - Weapon Style [insert appealing style/weapon focus] - Two Weapon Style (Dual-Wield) - Scion of Flame Attributes: 15 Might 13 Constitution 13 Dexterity 15 Perception (The White that Wends) 10 Intelligence 12 Resolve I suspect it's going to get challenging later, but if you tactically control your characters during combat, you should get a strong damage dealer that can also take a couple of hits. Stay in 20%-30% Recovery Rate armor if you want more frequent attacks, or in 35%-50% if you want more tank. It's can be situational as well, one armor is good against blunt attacks (clubs, fists, hammers and maces) other armor are good against corrode, fire, freeze, pierce, slash and so on. Be sure to scout and check your opponents, and dress accordingly, before you engage I made a dual-wielding Barbarian, worked really well in combat, but my idea didn't quite work out in dialogue (Wanted to make him a "gentleman" Barbarian). He had the highest damage stats in the party (Most damage, by a lot, at the end of the game). I did play him as respectable as I could in dialogue though, with a bit of aggression added in here and there. Hearth Orlan Barbarian. I didn't use axes though, I picked up the latest best one-hander I found and equipped it (Loot or Store) so that probably makes a difference. OP: I think you should make the character you want to make on Normal, and play for a bit, gain a couple of levels and get some better gear, choose the dialogue options that fit best with the type of character you're making, and see where it goes. I'm sure your character will shape as you go along and get a better grasp on it as well. You won't find your character in the "How to build the best healer/dps/tank" communities. -
Don't know about the Xbox controller but the PS4 controller does have the touchpad thing. It's really uncomfortable though and I don't think it'd do much... But motion control in the controller itself! "Flower" (thatgamecompany, "Journey", "fl0w") style control, could work for moving a mouse pointer. Although, I bet Sony would rather want you to get other accessories than just using the controller (Keyboard & Mouse, or their motion sticks). It would probably work fine on consoles, in theory, but would anyone not familiar with the type of game have the patience to learn how to play it, in practice? Haven't tried Diablo 3 on PS4 (Eager to get it though, even though I have it on PC ) but it has been given lots of praise. Albeit, you only control one character, and it is an action RPG, something like that could also work (Camera focus on main character, move with the left stick and use the right stick for targeting, switch characters on R2 or L2). Just like previous threads like this, I'm not condoning it, just simply curious thinking and pondering on how could it work "if" a console would adapt a RTwP singleplay RPG? (Didn't work well with Baldur's Gate, but technology has gone far since then) I also think that the biggest problem isn't actually "if it would work" (Because I'm of the belief that it would work), the biggest problem is "How do you translate and give clarity to Players unfamiliar to a PC game like this, and how do you make the controls easy and understandable?".

Which games would you like Obsidian to develop the most?
Osvir replied to Bleak's topic in Obsidian General
@Yellow Rabbit: It doesn't have to have Pillars of Eternity in the name, but it could definately still be Eora Feargus did pretty much say he could see Eternity IP in an open world Skyrim-type FP game. It's not just "Pillars of Eternity" that is the IP, it's the whole Eora World that is the IP (and that is one of the strongest points that everybody loves and enjoys about Eternity; the lore and world-building is loved). Albeit, he did say this quite long ago and that mentality might've changed of course. Also updated my vote to add WoD into it, didn't realize what it was at first (not that I know very much about the universe, just know and played Bloodlines). And all is well, 43 votes each now. -
Is it too soon to ask around what time? (I'm excited to play) :D I just wanna know if I'll be able to after work on the 16th, or if it's going to be released the 17th in Central Europe. And... well... IF you get any more delays, this is a petty and pretty selfish request and very much IF (and not really an honest request xD I want it naow!)... possible to delay to 29th of February? :D (I'm turning 7 leap years)

Just a curiousity... but... how would a WoD game work in Isometric perspective with either Party based mechanics or single character mechanics? Could work? I remember enjoying Bloodlines a lot in the First Person view, and I would prefer a follow-up to follow suit but... just out of curiosity... some gut feeling is telling me that it "Could be freaking awesome!!!" if done right... but a lot of the stealth aspects and the "continuity" would be lost (Just look at Fallout 3 and the reception it got from a lot of Fallout 1 & 2 fans, because they changed the format too much). My train of thought: - What if Obsidian develops a WoD game... hmm? - Don't they have Pillars of Eternity fresh on their minds... hmm? - Unity Engine, re-do textures and 3D models, replace the PoE system with a WoD system... hmm? Effectively speaking, it could help production by re-using assets and learnings, but Obsidian doesn't feel like a studio that wants to create Isometric games for an... Eternity... *ba-dum-tss* -
The Pillars Hype Train Tyme

I want to write a fanfic but all I can think of are concepts - Mad scientist (who began as a benevolant doctor looking for a "cure") who has caught godlikes in cages, animals and souls as well, experimenting (Irenicus inspired, duh). Pallegina involved (and all her feathers plucked, bald/naked chicken). His goal to create a super-being, a Godlike that possessess all traits from all the Gods. - A hunter's tale, in the Bael Marsh, recollecting and flashbacking his journey as he follows a trail to his mark, only to find the killer of his tribe/family in his own reflection in a pond. - A book, that traps the reader the moment it is opened (scripted event), following the tale of the original writer and the terror of countless readers (still trapped, their souls and essence turned into ink), allowing the player to make choices as they turn the pages. Obviously, these are not submissions, these are the "fanfics" I'd want to write... but I think I am concept damaged xD -
On my phone so I'll just list some I've fallen for lately: - Oura Samplus - Grammatik - Parov Stellar Electro swing <3 trumpets, saxophone and piano and electronics work well together *nod*

Roman RPG, that sounds awesome!!! Ever play Roma Victor?Age of Decadence? As much as I loved the game I wouldn't call it a Roman RPG Gotcha, I haven't played it enough (an hour or two). It's in my pile of "to-do", tried it out and felt tons of Roman vibes. -
I found New Vegas much more intruiging than Fallout 3, buuuuuuut... neither beats the classic gameplay and exploration. The fixed locations and the "make believe" overworld travel (plus all the random encounters being more memorable and intense). The newer/modern FO games are riding on a popular "brand" or "franchise", it's the Fallout logo but I feel it's something else. If Pepsi got Coca Cola logo and can color, but puts Pepsi in the can, doesn't make it Coca Cola.

Type-0 is probably.. hmm.... the most gritty and gory FF game I know of to date. It's pretty dark. Albeit, I haven't got very far... a friend of mine loved it, I enjoy it and followed it for quite a while. The FF6 remake looks good, but it's the exact same game. I heard, saw and read that the PC port wasn't very exciting though (I have it on my android phone). Best on a tablet though.

A "realistic" survival game, zombies or post-apocalyptic I don't care, with all human motion realistically captured (vivid animations), easy death, injuries. No text chat (mic required), no floating names and hardly any UI. No running animation!! Running = fatigue and similar. Iron, vitamins and minerals. A health simulator for your character and progressive training and growth. No chopping down entire trees, and you would have to produce and craft items realistically (animated crafting). In essence: It should be "real life", but virtual, placed in an odd, futuristic or fantasy, setting. Might come out, but probably not during my lifetime. -
I jumped into ESO (first time since closed beta). I'm surprised, it's p. good and fun, but the worst part is still there... all the other players *shudders* it's a bittersweet journey. Also dropped TOR sub, playing "SP" (story) casually now and then. Underrail as well forgot that Mordheim was out ^ thx melkathi

I've only tried 2 builds. A) Looter/Stealth/Pickpocketing etc. A Thief (that I completely failed with). I forgot to use all skills and utterly worthless in combat (dies in first encounter). I want an all out Thief to work, but it doesn't depends though, if you can manage to loot and find oddities at SGS (starring area), maybe you can gain a level or 2 and manage better? B) Psionics focus. Terrible against Mech/Robotics. I need to figure out a gopd way to deal with those. Other than that, psionics are strong and very useful. Crafting is interesting in this game, but I think and feel it's an investment for later. Lockpicking and Hacking are very important if you play with Oddity XP and want to get as much Oddities as possible (you'll find a lot of them behind locks and hacks). I also realized what put me off from the game, it's that darn starting area and elevator up and down. SGS is a bit of a boring place, but as soon as you get on with it and get better missions it gets so much better.

What would you do if you had unlimited time and money?
Osvir replied to Heijoushin's topic in Way Off-Topic
I wouldn't even need unlimited money, but just enough for either a private tutor and coach, or a private school/campus for maybe a year or two, specializing in video game development. Would give return of investment 10/10 *wink wink* -
Happy New Years! :D *cough* I expect to have hungover WM2 on January 1st Looking forward to it! :D https://45.media.tumblr.com/908e7698a72a948a211d91bac4a29022/tumblr_nh9iziLva21s4cxs0o1_500.gif

SW: The Old Republic - Episode VII (J.J. Strikes Back)
Osvir replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
Having returned to the Jedi order after what feels like several years I wonder... "Why didn't they make this game like Dark Forces or Elder Scrolls?" I do think Star Wars does much better in a FP viewpoint, and imagine all the skill shots (rather than just targeting an enemy and pressing a button). Aiming with a Trooper... holding a lightsaber and so on and forth. I did zoom in in hopes of seeing an update allowing you to play FPS mode but alas... NAY! Having tons of fun with my trooper though
