Could there be specific enemies that use the surrounding to their benefit? Will the be a giant Ogre (at one looking) that rips up tree's that it uses to attack you?

More Sub-Forums?
Osvir replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It is true what you all say, call it my own "map awareness" if you will. It's just a hypothetical guess really, that we could benefit by having more sub-forums. "General... what should I write?" is a common thought (It is a pretty broad subject.. the "general" one that is) I've got tons of ideas but little motivation, confidence or inspiration (personally) or specially sense of direction to take, just having a sub-forum called, per say, "Magic" would make me feel more inclined to write about Magic thoughts, ideas, suggestions, speculations etc. etc. in the Magic Forum (specially if I'm a new member being presented to this "interface", one risk is that it could seem intimidating if it is too much) I guess itt could be a suggestion in preparation for the $1'000 Backer Tier Closed Forums (I'm not by the way). -

story decisions as a game mechanic
Osvir replied to eyesofastorm's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I like the general thought and concept of the attack, and to defend a position in a dynamic way that's different from each time I play, but I'd still wish to have some sort of "control" on my tactical management, say I don't want to place a guy in the middle of town to lure in the zombies attacking, what if I instead wish to attack them head on and lure them out of the town (with my entire 6 party team/kiting them away). Could I not simply just bait them away from the village? I could have one of my members dedicated to taking out stragglers, thinning out the zombie horde as I go along, I could position myself so that even if the zombies go for the villagers I'll have a guard or two holding that position in a choke point, taking out 1 zombie at a time as they enter a doorway... Which takes me to another sense of wonder for us here at the board... I remember often using Spartan choke points in Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale... would it not be an interesting feature if enemies could actually press into you and push you backwards, e.g., overwhelm you (even if you stand by, what you think, is a safe chokepoint). Another point, could enemies crawl through windows and/or crash windows and enter that way? You say that the attack is imminent, the "zombie horde" is approaching the village as we speak, will I have enough time to even think about barricades? What is it that makes the villagers stay when they very well know that the zombies are after them and not their homes and houses? Could I not escort them out? How did I get into the village? There should be safe escape routes (Unless the zombies suddenly miraculously are coming from every angle and point after I initiate the event). What about the undead rising from the ground, from the nearby cemetery as an act of atrocious Necromancer that I will have to defeat to stop the waves of zombies (would they "resurrect" after a while and continue fighting, endlessly until the Necromancer is dead?). -

So yeah I did the entire Forum in an Excel format. It's only sorted by date and you can find the files in the attachments, I see it as a sort of "Chronology of the Kickstarter" Going to pluck out all the irrelevant (to game design) tomorrow or so, for now you can enjoy Day 1 of Project: Eternity up to the current day in these Day by Day.pdf documentations EDIT: I also marked them with "POLL" (All of them that had it). Each link is direct-linked to every thread, from Widgets to General. obs123141.pdf obs1231411.pdf -
More Sub-Forums?
Osvir replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Depends on how you look at it bro, for future archiving I'd suggest that Obs make more sub-forums because in a week or two everything you see on the 1st Page will be on the 3rd-4th Page and everything will be messed up and no one will ever see those topics that could've made a better game, the first topic might be about Romances, the second about Fighters, the third one about Story for that Quest, the fourth one is Romances again. With corresponding Sub-Forums that follow proper Categorizing you'll instead see that all topics fall (ideally) automatically into their rightful place. Ideally, all Player-related topics would be in the Player related Sub-Forum, Weapon and Armor topics would be in the Weapon and Armor related Sub-Forum etc. etc. But you are right, I've felt the posts actually become less and less frequent just these 2-3 last days. One naive part of me says that discussion on each of these subjects (in my OP) would grow to something more if they were Sub-Forums (deep diving into the gameplay/mechanics and so on and so forth, instead of "Generally" discuss gameplay/mechanics, we are only scratching the surface). -

Haha, as much as many would love it there seems to only be about 20~ threads about it in total, hardly enough to grant itself an entire forum imo. -

Respectful discussion
Osvir replied to Ralewyn's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I think that communication is super important, and on that; your post is great. I'd personally want frankness however, if someone thinks I'm a jerk, I want them to tell me I'm a jerk. Maybe it releases stressful tension in their bodies that they need to vent, or maybe it makes me re-think what I'm actually writing. What others respond to me is the Feedback I get, what "others think" and sure it can be saddening or hurtful when others either don't respond or respond in a poor manner. I think that's probably worse to be honest, one of the reasons why I'm responding here to you. Not getting an answer at all would be the worst, that's like saying "I wouldn't even poke that thread with a stick". It might just be so simple that people agree with you but think it's senseless/useless discussion because within a week there's going to be a new "Villain" who appears at the scene who wants to express his views and opinions, and he'll run you over with harsh bitter words just like the one before him did. Some people, as harsh as it sounds doesn't give a damn. Some fight Fire with Fire, some fight it with Water, and some with Oil (because they think it's fun) the point is that the Fire will still be there, specially at a place like this with so much Passion. Then again this is a community where everyone is bipolar (as a whole), you might want console controller support I might want keyboard+mouse support (if I only got to choose between the two), someone wants Level Scaling, someone else doesn't want it at all. Some people want Multiplayer, some strictly Single Player. Some want 300 companions, some only 1. Some play Solo, or only Once, some play with passion over and over again until they've found every bit of needle in every haystack there is, then they go and mod more needles that they throw senselessly into the haystack. Some scream and rage when they die in Dark Souls, others take a deep breathe and try to learn from their mistakes "Where did I go wrong?". Some try to be friends, and for some it's their job (Moderators) and they are doing their job very well imo. Some like chocolate more than vanilla, and vice versa, if you catch my drift, I can go on forever. Some like to communicate, some don't. Some try to be adults, when they really are children, and some try to be children, when they really are adults. That was way wiser than I intended xD Anyways, I think you're cool Ralewyn, kudos. Have a great wonderful day EDIT: Someone has to teach for another to learn~ simply put; treat others like you want others to treat you- 37 replies

Scouring through the forums of old to get a bigger picture of what we have been discussing here I started "collecting" all threads into one thread and categorizing it. Quickly found out we are talking about quite a lot of categories, I've "compressed" them together here to lessen the numbers but here goes: General Forum about Project: Eternity; About the World/Lore: * GENERAL/LORE-ISH/WORLD/QUESTS/NPC/INTERVIEWS Player Sub-Forum; About the Player: * CHARACTER/PLAYER/COMPANION/PARTY/RELATIONSHIPS/STRONGHOLD/DIALOGUE/INVENTORY/SKILLS/HEALTH Enemy Sub-Forum; About the Challenge: * BOSSES/COMBAT/AI/EXPERIENCE Gear/Equipment; About the Tool: * WEAPONS/ARMORS/CLASSES/RACES/MAGIC About Beauty, Song and the Illusion: * GRAPHICS/ART/MUSIC Modding; About Technical Tidbits: * MODDING/TECHNICAL/MULTIPLAYER/GAME OPTIONS What do you think? PAGE 40-50 FROM GENERAL DISCUSSION Page 1 of this Collection Thread. (Gameplay & Mechanics) http://forums.obsidi...um-discussions/ Tried ordering it by date, more Categories. Starting to get a hand of it, I pretty much rushed the oldest oldest and they are pretty much "Archives" more or less. I would like to Suggest something, could Sub-Forums be created similar to the Categories I got down here? Because there's quite a lot of discussion on these specific Categories kind of. This is what I meant with "Facing Direction". From League of Legends with Riven btw, when you press "R" (which is the equivalent to the Ultimate Ability) a Second time with Riven you get this thing that you can place tactically and you will use your ability towards that direction: Could it be used with the "Right" mouse button to decide which direction you will face? -

I'm finding threads that are 2 months old that people are still making new topics about (I've done it myself too). Just trying to get everyone on the same page a la "This is what has been discussed already, don't go make more topics about it". Also, this is like 30 Pages (all in all) in 2 Pages in one Thread. Would you rather read 30 pages? I'm just trying to help out (EDIT: All you have to do is scroll up and down and click a little in this thread, I promise you that it's less work than going through all them 30 pages not everyone has been around from the very start either, and there's probably going to come in new members of the board every now and again) The newer DISCUSSIONs are coming later (this has little to do with Official Information Hassat, except what is discussed in the threads, this is Member Content). EDIT: All of it is intended as Material I'm sure, you want to get some inspiration for Classes without searching the entire General Discussion? Go here and get your fix -
Combat: What makes micro fun?
Osvir replied to Kaz's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Yes I agree but I wouldn't want to enter the "Dynasty Warrior" style gameplay where I'm just too damn powerful to be stopped. If a 100 enemies corner me to the wall I want to fight my way out of it like a boss, perhaps have to move through the army of Goblins and only take out 20-30 of them so that I can get to the other side of the army and escape. -

I encounter lots of situation in Baldur's Gate where I just drop the pausing and put my micro to a test. It works! It's just clunky. I wouldn't mind some more active control on top of the pause function without straying too far away from the core gameplay. -
Suicide by adventurer
Osvir replied to Death Machine Miyagi's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This all depends on the character/enemy/mob that you are facing and I say "Why not scale his encounter?" depending on your gear/level/stats? Not saying that all NPC's that attack you should be in that way but some of them could. If someone attacks my super strong party out of the blue, an NPC I missed or someone that spawned without my knowledge when I was out exploring, I usually just laugh and say "Bring it on fool". Not much of an issue really, and can't pin-point one such encounter that I took notice of (I probably encountered several of such encounters on my Baldur's Gate playthrough but I just didn't care much). In another thread we discussed the ability for [speech] skill being affected by having a "Protection from Evil" spell cast on you, or having a Fire Shield/Aura around you (which should be rather intimidating). -

Bump from Page 2, only one new: Class Design and Combat Performance Poll Should all classes be able to reach similar combat potential if the player chooses to do so? Yes, my choice to play a certain class should not hinder my performance in combat No, not all classes value combat skills the same way. I really enjoy what you wrote Space_Hamster specially the part with drums First of all I wish to endorse this and I would love to see this become a story: This song, if polished a little bit (without song) could work as an awesome background "Menu" or Tavern music. This guy has a fantastic voice as well which would be awesome to see hear in the game too Hmm a story around the campfire eh? There was this one man together with his one lad, apprentice but really they were more like two very good friends. They spoke little with each other as they gathered branches of wood and laid around a campfire. It would be dark soon. No one liked the darkness in these times. They hurled themselves up around the fire, in thick leather and robes to keep themselves warm. The elder of the two prodded the base of the fire with a stick whilst the apprentice just looked in awe to his superior. "Could you tell me another tale?" said the younger of the two smilingly, although showing little of it the Elder felt flattered and coughed once or twice to clear his deep voice. He was big and muscular. "Perhaps I could ask you a question for once Wed'tsu?" with surprise and a raised eyebrow Wed'tsu looked at again intently at his superior. The Elder continued "Have you ever heard the name Aloth before?" the Wed'tsu shook his head shrugging "Oh well, perhaps it was nothing then..." Wed'tsu quickly insisted "Go on, go on I want to hear, who is this person.. a powerful villain? Aloth! Hah! I betcha you showed him alright Master Bigesu" Bigesu, the more muscular fellow, chuckled with heart "Haha yes I showed him alright" then he went stern in his face and concerned almost, muttering to himself "... really...?". This only piqued Wed'tsu's interest even further "Come on you're dragging the story man! Get to the point", "Yes yes, this Aloth..." pause "Yeah, what about him?". "I met him on the road some days ago, he was packing a lot of gear so I asked if I could kindly help in some way, we were going the same direction and I had my caravan with me. A snotty little brat, thought he was tough, boasting all about his power. I guess I stepped on a toe when I sarcastically said 'Oh really"..." Wed'tsu could not release his eyes "Got zapped in the back of my head. Pfft, snotty brat..." "Then what, then what??" "I zapped him of course, fried 'im like a chicken where he stood. Don't think he'll stop twitching from that one in a while... of course he'll survive but..." "But what Master?" "... he didn't use a Tome". Silence... *dun dun dun* For some further inspiration for anyone who feels like they want to write something
