  1. It's not a problem for me since I was going to get this through Steam anyway, because of Steamplay letting me play on Windows and Linux and making everything easy, but I can see how people would have gripes with this. I definitely think they should do future DLCs separate from Steam as well as DLC through Steam.
  2. Urge to donate screeches to a halt: there's no Paypal option for the boxed copy. Not good. Sucks, maybe they just need to update the page... This doesn't affect me since I was going digital anyway, but sucks for others. Anyway, write them an email and ask them what the deal is.
  3. Pledges seem to be spiking a bit today and this will be the best day since day 4, or even possibly day 3. Clearly this is due to the reveal of in-game Weresheep.
  4. If you're into space sims then you'll likely like it. It's made by German developer Egosoft. The X Series is my favorite modern space sim. Other games, like Freelancer, have done combat better, but I'm big into trading economy, and the X Series does that quite well. You can build and own factories, multiplex them, trade, etc. The dynamic supply & demand based economy is quite good. You can own any type of ship, from small scouts, to heavy fighters, to massive capital ships, like carriers and destroyers. While the games do have a "campaign" to play through, the meat of the games is always just doing your own thing in a MASSIVE galaxy sandbox. You can do pretty much whatever you want: Be a pirate and prey on merchants, be a defender and hunt down pirates and aggressors, be a merchant and set up a huge trading empire spanning numerous sectors (that's my bag), lead massive fleets and conquer whole sectors through military might. Words of warning: * Cringeworthy voice acting * STEEP learning curve * Be prepared to lose hundreds of hours of your life If you plan to jump into the series, then I recommend you go with one of the X3 games, I would suggest Terran Conflict (I have yet to play Albion Prelude). The campaigns are mostly throw away in the games and the X3 games are simply superior to X or X2.
  5. That gives a whole new meaning to wearing were-ing a sweater. Heyoooo! /raises hand for high-five //dodges tomato thrown at head ///backs out of room
  6. I'm in the initial stages of X3: Terran Conflict, playing a Terran Defender. As per usual for me, my initial goal is just to make enough money to buy a small transport. Starting off with a poorly armed M4 (light fighter) is always slow going for me. I'm not a fan of M4s, they're a middle ground and sort of represent the worst of both worlds to me. They don't really have enough firepower to take on ships much larger than themselves even when fully armed, much less with meager starting weaponry. I could conceivably take down an M3 (heavy fighter), but it will be a rather tough battle, and if there's more than one of them, forget it. On the other hand, they don't always have enough speed to get out of dodge if caught in a bad spot. An M5 (scout) may be REALLY weak in a fight, but at least if I decide to flee, nothing, outside of other M5s, can keep up with me, and I can even outrun many missiles. They gave me a Rapier (M5), but I'll stick with the M4 for now because of the larger cargo hold. Trading with a fighter is not really a good way to make money fast, but it's better than nothing, and I can't stand to travel from place to place with an empty cargo hold, it's just such a waste (that's my Teladi side talking). Once I get enough money I'll sell the M4 and buy a TS (small transport), likely a Vulture. I prefer Teladi and Boron transports, because they tend to have the most cargo room. I'll hold on to the M5 since it will be useful for time sensitive missions, exploration, and won't fetch much of a selling price anyway. Edit: As an aside, it's embarrassing how rusty and poor of a shot I am at the moment. It really shows that I haven't played a space sim, nor used my flightstick, for a couple of years. With practice, I'll get my skills back eventually.
  7. Ditto. I'll be pledging in the next day or two. Edit: I also love that they're going to add Weresheep into the game. You really started something there, LordCrash.
  8. Help us help others! $5 Tier - A heartfelt digital thank you personalized with your name. $20 Tier - Digital Hug. I transmit a hug to you via the interwebs. $50 Tier - Physical Hug. I will personally hug you (travel expenses not included). $75 Tier - Digital Screenshot - Same as the Digital Hug tier, but you will also receive a screenshot of my Steam client showing the games you helped me fund. $100 Tier - Physical Hug & Screenshot - Same as $50 tier plus a printout of the screenshot of my Steam client on 96 brightness recycled paper.
  9. That's what I thought too... Five Kickstarter project pledges ago... ... I need help.
  10. It's better than Ritalin.
  11. It occurred to me that I haven't played a space sim in a really really long time. So I went ahead, searched through my closet, dusted off my Hotas Flightstick, and started a new game of X3: Terran Conflict. Time to start setting up a new trading empire. As an aside, I'm getting really worried that X: Rebirth is going down the Duke Nukem Forever path.
  12. Cool update. The fact that they mentioned that you can play as two male or two female characters hopefully also means that I can change their roles. Hopefully this means that rather than having a buff dude warrior covered in armor and a sultry vixen ranger showing skin and cleavage, I can have a female warrior covered in armor and a dashing male ranger showing of skin and ... I'll leave that to the imagination. Anyway, if the system is anything like Divine Divinity, then the starting "profession" won't have much bearing on the game other than starting stats and I'll be able to build both characters any way I want to, that's what I'm expecting, anyway. Hopefully the armor sets for female character will include actual functional armor, rather than just leather bikini, chain bikini, plate bikini, and Princess Leia style bikini with comically massive single pauldron.
  13. I did $87 ($75 Numenera Seeker digital tier & $12 Numenera Torment Source Book add-on). Regardless of what anyone pledged, everyone that chipped in helped out, heck even those that didn't pledge, but only spread the word, helped out.
  14. I gotta say that I'm pleasantly surprised by this lappy. I figured it would be fairly good, but it's exceeding my expectations. I've pretty much been able to max out everything I've thrown at it at 1600x900 (I only do 4X MSAA and 4X Anisotropic because I honestly can't tell the difference when compared to 8X or higher, even if I go over it with a fine toothed comb) so far (limited selection of games), with the exception of The Witcher 2, and that game I've pushed beyond Medium settings into borderline High settings and it still runs nice and smooth. I knew the GT650M was pretty good, I didn't know it was this good. I've also read that the GDDR5 version that I have overclocks well with very little extra heat to basically GTX660M levels, but I haven't really had the need to even go down that route yet and doubt I will anytime soon.
  15. Final tally: 74,388 backers $4,187,993 + PayPal (likely 95k-ish)
  16. 4.25 million reached! Edit: I gotta say, Obsidian's final countdown video was definitely a lot more fun. It's all good, though.
  17. I'm quite confident now it will reach the 4.25 million goal. 4.5 million is not out of the question, but I'm not counting on it.
  18. I think 4.25 million is still within reach. They need another 130k-ish to do it.
  19. We'll just have to make sure that Project: Eternity 2 (assuming it goes the crowdfunding route) breaks Torment: Tides of Numenera's record. And the record has been broken. /pops open beer
  20. The rate of pledges coming in has started to spike and the closing celebration broadcast hasn't even started yet. It will break 4 million easily, Kickstarter alone. I wonder if it can reach 4.25 million with PayPal?
  21. That's ****ing awesome!
  22. Belgian, I think.
  23. Eh, is that because of the tiers, or is it a fairly standard late rush? I'm just saying I found the tiers and monetization aspects to be confusing compared to other KS, though ultimately not applicable to me since I just went for the "really early preorder" variety. I'm not saying the criticisms of tiers are necessarily wrong. I'm just saying that the campaign is doing quite well, either because of the tiers, or despite them.
  24. Yeah, I'm all for this beating P:E's record (which it surely will). Then, in turn, P:E 2 can beat T:ToN's record, and push the bar further. As an aside, thank you Colin. Thank you, thank you, thank you for aiming at making a complete pacifist playthrough possible (that's my goal for my first character).
  25. LOL at Crusader Kings Z. Still waiting on The Old Gods. I need my pagans, dammit!
