  1. - 35$, pledged instantly after I found out about the project. - 65$ + 15$, boxed copy started to get irresistible after I found out more about the project. - 140$ + 20$, after they announced Beta Key. - 140$ + 20$ + 20$, for expansion add-on and George Ziets. - 140$ + 20$ + 20$ + 10$, upped my pledge this morning for card deck add-on and Big City 2. =190$ =~146,50€ I'm eating spaghetti and ketchup for whole month now. Hope you are happy Obsidian!
  2. Then you obviously don't play much games. Baldur's Gate style UI is huge waste of space. Every pixel of UI is limiting your view from those gorgeous backgrounds so they must find prefect balance between size and usability. Also UI consisting of blocks like in DA:O behaves much better with different resolutions than solid one and if you are allowed to set sizes for different pieces of UI or turn them on and off it's just perfect.
  3. They are going to have flintlock guns. One shot and takes long time to reaload. BTW It's fantasy. It doesn't have to follow any particular era in real history, but actually this is based on very late medieval times when they already had simple flintlock guns. If I remember right it was 16th century. I don't understand why so many people hate breaking the mold of old boring sword N' sorcery RPGs. We already have enough of those.
  4. nicely. The thing I always wanted from DA:O was a finely bound version of Brother Genitivi's travel journal. I would have (probably still will) paid a stupid amount of money for that. So... Kinda like the Diablo 3 Book of Cain? I think it's written from a characters perspective (Cain), explaining a lot of the bits and pieces of lore in the world. And it has detailed sketches throughout it too. I love the idea of something like this, though I don't think it would be wise for the player to need it to play the game. It could be something that you could use to find out extra and read up on the lore more. I'd certainly prefer something like that to an in-game codex, DA and ME smothered me in so much information that I just stopped reading it all. I haven't played any Diablo games, so I wouldn't know. But if some game was to have this kind of book I would like to see the idea taken to extremes. You just don't play that game without the book. I can only imagine what talented designer could do with that symbiosis. Some RPGs require you to read huge amounts of text anyway so why not put some or most of it between real covers? That would of course require it to be retail only and probably be little more expensive, but I would pay for it if there was brave enough developer to make it.
  5. I would love to see something like that. Every physical reading and learning material is always welcome, because digital stuff like overlong in-game tutorials or pdf-manuals give me headaches. It's just not the same feeling when you read it from computer screen. The more physical information they can give us the better. Other thing I've wanted to see in todays games for a long long time is physical stuff which you would need to complete the game. Maybe good quality hardcover book functioning as your journal from where you can study bits of lore and find information on certain situations. Kind of scrapbook, containing ancient writings, descriptions of monsters, places or notable people, history books, letters, what ever developers imagination could pull together. (EDIT: Of course these texts should be written into lore, so no numerical health points, damages or other technical stuff here.) How much more immersive would that be than just some in game codex or journal entries? It just would have to be something that doesn't get lost easily. But that might be just fool's hope as more and more games are distributed digitally and I can imagine how annoying it would be to browse through that epic with Adobe Reader.
  6. I don't think that's really good argument in favor of 2D. It's like building an ordinary house and making front look like palace, but if you look it from different angle it's still just the same dull and boring ordinary house. So you make it so people won't see anything else but the front wall and everybody's happy?! Yay!
  7. They look great, but I think they look much better in their original size because characters and objects get too small in bigger resolutions. Original size then again is frustrating because of very limited view and constant need of scrolling around map. Claustrophobic experience. This is my main problem with old 2D games: I just can't find the perfect balance between those two and it doesn't help that IE widescreen mods seem to cause crashing on some resolutions. They worked best on my monitors native res 1080p which is far too big for this kind of games. Almost all others were nearly unplayable because of constant crashes. Hopefully they figure out some kind of zooming system in PE so you can get smaller view on situations you need to be more precise like combat and then again wider view for exploration and finding important places in cities etc.
  8. Actually that game seems to be quite a rarity these days, because rights went back to Hasbro and since then it has been unavailable through all digital distributors. Few online shops still have retail copies, but prices are outrageous for 6 year-old game. But they can ask almost anything since there probably won't be new batch coming for a little while.
  9. I haven't played any of his games, but considering all the praise he has got here on these forums he might be worth pledging few extra dollars.
  10. If you are referring to my previous post then let me explain few things: First of all I'm not trying to insult any particular person with that. It was obvious and purposeful exaggeration and no one should take it seriously. Secondly: Having different opinions is of course ok, but if you openly state it, it's at same time permission for others to say their opinion on your opinion. They can agree with it, disagree, make fun of it, whatever they feel like doing. It's how things work in every area of life, not just internet. You can see same thing happen when politicians or even respected professors debate. No, I was not referring to any single particular post, but it was my general impression after reading a couple of pages. I agree with you when you say that if one person can express his opinion, others have the right to state their opinion on that opinion. Yes, they can agree and disagree ... but I do not think that people should make fun of other opinions or do "whatever they feel like doing". This may be how things work in every area of life ... but that does not mean that it's a good thing. I doubt politicians' behavior is something we should strive to emulate ... and as scientific debates among professors go ... arguments are what counts, not personal attacks or belittling somebody who holds a different opinion. A proferssor in a scientific debat lowering himself to those measures is no longer a "respected" professor. And yes, of course there is a difference between purposeful exaggeration that people can clearly perceive as not meant completely seriously and calling everybody with a different opinion a "troll." Personal attacks are of course out of question, but opinions should still be open for funmaking, because sometimes people notice flaws of their ideas best when it's presented in humorous light. It has happened to me and it has happened to many others. It's just up to you if you're ready to admit your mistake or just want to continue argument even though you have already lost it in your mind too. Tolerance, non-violence? This is getting to a whole new level.:D By that I meant that every opinion and idea should be open for discussion and debate, even humor. If that idea endures through all the counterarguments, jokes and funmaking, then it probably is worth the respect, but unfortunately not every idea deserves that. I think tolerance and respect are something to earn, not something every idea has in beginning.
  11. If you are referring to my previous post then let me explain few things: First of all I'm not trying to insult any particular person with that. They can agree with it, disagree, make fun of it, whatever they feel like doing. It's how things work in every area of life, not just internet. You can see same thing happen when politicians or even respected professors debate. It's whole point of debating: To prove your opinion as superior or in exchange prove others opinion inferior. If we just go around respecting every view then what is learned in the process?
  12. We didn't have Facebook in 90's, we don't need it now! Hurr durr! Expansion and Wasteland 2 for those rich f*****s? Why don't I get anything for my 20$ which is half of my monthly income?! Herp derp! It must require some special talent to form complaint about how Obsidian gets more publicity and gives pledgers more things for their money and by doing so gets more funding for the project.
  13. Man, you people love voting. After every update at least dozen more or less relevant polls pop out almost immediately. But why limit choices so drastically, because I don't feel any of above is quite of my liking? Usually best expansions are those that do something completely unexpected and surprise me. I still think it's best to just trust Obsidian and the great talents behind this game. Maybe they could even get George Ziets to write the expansion if they are unable to get him to do actual game.(Though I've never played game done by him, but he seems to have very enthusiastic fanbase here so I would be thrilled to see what that's all about) EDIT: Only thing I expect from an expansion is that it somehow connects with original story. If they just throw it in new place with new main character, new companions and new everything, then why call it expansion? Isn't that all new game? I also usually like to be able to continue with my character from original game, but that's not must.
  14. Yes, and lots of sex and prostitution, alcohol, child abuse, slavery, natural disasters, starvation, mass murder, genocide and... brr.. piracy and copyright infringements. But seriously as I said in some other thread I don't think these dark fantasy clichés have any absolute value. If they think drugs add something to the game and they can deal with them in interesting ways then I'm in, but I'm not asking them to include them just for sake of it. In The Elder Scrolls for example they are basically just stamina potions, but I think they should have more substance to them like OP described, possible addictions, storylines, etc.
  15. My thoughts exactly. If anything was bad about Torment it was character customization. Every companion just had his/her own special gear which could be used by nobody else. Of course lots of stuff was tied to their backstories, which made up for that little inconvenience completely, but it would have been nice to have some more flexible companion on second or third playthrough. Part of the problem of course lied on Infinity Engine, which didn't lend itself very well for that kind of extremely story driven game.
  16. @Baeus: Really? You are comparing this to some Xbox Live Arcade games? Those are completely different kind of games made by completely different kind of companies. Too much variables to compare lengths or budgets. I'm 100%... well, lets say 99,9% sure Obsidian will make great game once again. They are realtively big and stable company, which has relations, contacts and business partners all over the industry. They have best possible situation to make this game. I don't know about actual IE games, but I have heard Fallout 1 was made with 3 million, but it doesn't compare because of inflation and all that other boring economical stuff. EDIT: This means today they would need probably more money if we presume development process would be exactly the same. But industry has changed and evolved and I think in overall you can make this kind of game with less money today. They have ready engine and decades of experience on how to make RPGs. They'll also save lots of money in marketing which they probably won't need at all since main audience (us;)) already know about it and already paid for it.
  17. Oops! I somehow managed to miss that post by Archmage Silver. Sorry about that, but great news anyway!:D
  18. Actual DRM doesn't bother me much if it isn't invasive like required internet connection, limited activations etc. Benefits of DRM may be questionable, but if you think it will serve some purpose I'm not against it. BUT... DON'T force us to activate the game through Steam, because value of that game box collapses at the moment you activate the game and bind it to your account. Especially with Collector's Edition it's really important that the game DVD will be usable by anyone, anytime and stay that way forever. I'm not planning to ever use my game disc since there is digital version to play, but I think I should be able to play it also from disc and still be able to legally sell it forward or leave it to my kids as inheritance some day.
  19. You are not billed until the Kickstarter ends as was previously stated, as such they would not have the money to make the game silly. Yeah I know hardly anything about Kickstarter, and haven't read much on this forum about it. I still don't see why they wouldn't continue to accept contributions after the close of it in order to get more money to make it a better game. i.e. If they don't reach specified targets for certain add ons in the game, but people still want to contribute to help reach those targets. It's just how Kickstarter works. They give you certain timeline you have to get funding you asked for, they collect the money for you if you succeed and after that you are on your own. If they kept these projects open forever, funding would probably also take forever; Why pledge now if you get same rewards few months later when we know more about game? I'm pretty sure they'll keep the PayPal account open if people have any overage money left after this. Only question is are those funds counting towards stretch goals or increasing your personal reward tier after KS expires.
  20. I think that it's too soon for screenshots and technical demos. Concept art is always welcome though. "Although they’re not ready to share it just yet, (Adam) Brennecke told me he saw the first screenshot of the game the day we spoke. Even he was impressed. 'It looks amazing.'" -Penny Arcade: Sophie Prell, Sep 27, 2012
  21. Hopefully lots of actual footage of what they have been doing so far, because for now it has been mostly talk about what they are planning to do and how they are designing things. Screenshots, concept art, insight to the game world, technical demo etc... Also video tour at Obsidian office would be fun. It's always nice to see people and building behind the game and if it can be done in humorous way like Tim Schafer did with Double Fine it's always a plus.
  22. I agree with The Witcher point. Less can sometimes be more and in TW the beautifully melancholic score with folk music elements fits much better into fantasy world than epic but usually generic orchestral arrangements. The Witcher has one of those few soundtracks I still listen constantly.
  23. It doesn't have to reflect entirely any real-world age. Technology level could be from medieval era, but culture and values from modern age or if devs are very brave they could play around with those even more. I don't find those "dark fantasy" elements have any absolute value. They need to serve the story, not just be there because they want to make "mature fantasy world" like everyone does nowdays.
  24. Read some older articles from Kickstarter page. Few still have old logo. It was basically text Project Eternity over snake eating it's own tail. (Ouroboros) EDIT: Piccolo was faster. And I highly doubt Bethesda had anything to do with change since Ouroboros is an ancient symbol used in many religions and mythologies, so even ZeniMax would have hard time trademarking something of that status.
  25. I definitively like it more than old one which was little bit generic and dull. New one has more character and is much more memorable.
