  1. Why not? Great game(s) and definitively has more RPG in it than some "real" RPGs of our time.
  2. You have to remember that this is a different sort of undertaking. Obsidian isn't answering to large investors or a publisher, they are answering directly to us, the fans and supporters. They would have to comfort investors if they pushed back release, perhaps they wouldn't ask permission but they would have to jump through hoops for them. Now we are all in that position of investor. I consider these threads, and their frequency, to be both a message to other funders and to Obsidian that we want the best game they can make in whatever timescale. Because we are the investors in this case, we do have to make sure Obsidian *knows* our collective will and what we will endure before our faith in the project is broken. I just hope they will be willing to hold another fundraiser if they do run out of money and that the community will endure it. No, we are not in position of investor. I think that's far too common misunderstanding with Kickstarter. After fundraiser ends they could start making modern infantry FPS with zombies and aliens in it and we could do nothing about it. That might not be very smart from them, but that doesn't change the fact they could. We're just foolish donors who gave away our money only for a promise of final product which might still be years away. And please stop worrying of the money too. They promised us the game for 1.1 million and now they have almost doubled that goal and still 16 days to go. What makes you all think they are going to run out of money?! It's going to be Isometric old-school RPG, not some blockbuster state-of-the-art FPS with directX 23.5 graphics! (or at least I hope so, but how do we know ;D) If they can't make this happen with that amount of money then they clearly don't belong into this business.
  3. That's right and same goes for any other fantasy cliché people are requesting. Is this what fantasy has become? "I liked this in other game so I want it to be copied in this game too." Just pick your favorites from every world, smash them together and *poof* PERFECT RPG! Think outside the box: Everything doesn't have to be something that has been done before.
  4. Same here. I'm not asking for similar system, but I think allowing you to choose your party depending on current situation without fear of losing anyone would be great. I hated system in Baldur's Gate where dismissed company just left never to be seen again. Wouldn't it make more sense if they went back home (or nearest tavern if that's more their style :D) and could be re-recruited from there at any point of the game.
  5. Why is everybody so worried of release date when production has not even fully started yet? It seems this same thing comes up eventually in every thread. I have no opinion on this. It's planned release date, which every game has from the start and in 99% of projects it will be pushed further at some point or another and they won't ask your permission. If you can't live with that you can already cancel your pledge. They are hardened professionals and they know better than any of us how long this kind of game takes to develop and I'm sure they have no problem postponing release if they need more time. Just relax and wait for it.:D
  6. Multiplayer: No, it doesn't add anything into game and probably will be completely abandoned in few months. It also limits their design choices as everything in single-player has to be made work in co-op too. Waste of time and waste of money. Modding tools: I actually voted yes, because I really would like to see those, but didn't Tim Cain say on last update that they will make those if they are able to. So it's kind of pointless to ask for them. They'll make those as long as their engine and tools allow it. Languages: Don't care. I'm from Finland and here almost everyone understands English well enough to play game like this. And if they don't then it's about a time to learn, isn't it? I started gaming well before I had decent skills in English. I just grabbed my dictionary and tried to understand as much as I could. Actually I have learned more English from games than from school. So if you don't have good enough skills to enjoy this game then you could consider it as a change to educate yourself while playing great RPG! Dictionaries are not that expensive.
  7. Query - if this isn't a game for you it, the wrong game as you say... did you donate to it? Why - to just support Obsidian? And whether you donated or not (especially if you hadn't, but it's not that important) - if it's isn't for you, why are you advocating for changes to it? This forum is not restricted only for fans of this game. Of course he has right to voice his opinion as much as any of us do.
  8. If I understood right also characters with "weaker" souls may face some kind of discrimination and "racism" in the world Obsidian is creating, which might indicate souls have something to do with characters race. It's also possibility they are going to be completely separate character feature, which has nothing to do with class or race. EDIT: But your interpretation where characters type of soul defines his/her class sounds most logical to me.
  9. What I was trying to say was that they should not make game isometric with 2D backgrounds just because Infinity Engine games were. Every possibility should be taken in fair consideration. Please note that I'm not implying developers haven't thought this through. I'm sure they have and their design choice has been made for good reasons. I was just replying to Aedelrics post.
  10. In my opinion Project Eternity should not be "about" neither of those. All it needs to be is a great RPG. Limiting your design choices just because "this is what we did 20 year ago" isn't very smart, is it? Whichever style they choose it should be based on what best serves the game they are making, not just nostalgia. Limiting your design choices? They already selected (chosen) the design they are going for. Your comment makes no sense. That doesn't change my point at all. Are you saying that when devs make their decision, we are no longer allowed to criticize or question them? Open discussion has never hurt anybody.

  12. I'm 22. 23rd birthday's only about two months away. Favorite RPGs? Planescape: Torment Great story involving whole scale of human emotions, weird atmosphere and interesting bizarre world to explore. Probably the best soundtrack ever on video game. That's what makes it greatest RPG of all time for me. The Witcher 1&2 World of the Witcher is grim and dark place where you won't find black or white. Only shades of grey: Your choises and their consequences. Here you can really play role without worrying about what your "karma meter" is going to like about this choice. Also perfectly balanced difficulty to keep combat satisfying. Knights of the Old Republic Star Wars was a franchise that demanded to be translated into an RPG and what a great job did Bioware do with it! Dragon Age: Origins Story and character could have been a lot better, but still it was great tribute to old-school RPGs and I certainly had tons of fun with it. High difficulty level was also nice change. The Elder Scrolls series Stories and depth have never been Bethesdas strongest areas of expertise, but huge open worlds and feeling of freedom are incomparable to any other games on market.
  13. Actually most of the peeves in this thread seem reasonable to me? What do you object to specifically? Yes, most are very reasonable, but for example things like semi-permanent companion death are just creating unnecessary reloading, or if you don't want to do that then you just walk to nearest priest and after formal fee, your companion is revived anyway. Some might say this is immersion. I would say it's just waste of time. Deaths should be made unwanted in some other way and (I know some won't like this) I think DA:O did great job by making revived characters "wounded" until you could cure them. Also I think the old "spell and ability memorizing" system is outdated. It's just another version of cooldown mechanic. In old RPGs you had to sleep to memorize spells, which again is waste of time because all you need to do is go to nearest tavern or other place where you can rest and *poof*, spells are again usable. Nowdays you just have to wait certain time until you are going to be able to use the spell again. Just more streamlined version of the old system without unnecessary running around. I know in some dungeons you couldn't rest and so you had to think carefully your use of spells and abilities, but they can be made hard in so many other and IMO better ways that it's not really worth it.
  14. All I ask is for developer to not take this kind of threads too seriously. I'm facepalming here over and over again for some of these requests. If they listened to all of you, soon they would have some 1988 text-RPG in their hands.:D Nostalgia is ok, but this has to be updated to todays standards. Now it seems you are forbidding everything that possibly could make gameplay even a little bit smoother and less painful. Clumsy user interface and unforgiving gameplay were not what made Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment great to me. In many ways they could have been lot better and some are requesting those same "not so good" features to return in this game. No thanks.
  15. Exactly. And when in future we have those 4k monitors you are going to play BG in a box about the size of stamp in the middle of your screen? I don't think this is going anywhere. I have stated my opinion and I have nothing more to say on this matter.
  16. No, I mean distortion which occurs when monitor scales non-native resolution Image to monitors native resolution. Do you understand? If my monitors y Axis has 1080 pixels and BG has only 600, monitor has to "stretch" those pixels so the image fits my monitors y axis, which is going to result as distortions in the final Image I get on my screen. I'm not talking about black boxes. Those don't bother me at all. BTW, I think this conversation is drifting off the point here.
  17. @Metabot: Where did I say that? @Jarepie: And you are saying that BG character made out of few dozen pixels isn't "bloggy"? I agree the human characters are the weakest spot of 3D, but that's why I suggested Wasteland 2style 3D where Action and characters are seen from far and thus don't need as much details. Problem witj resolutions is that when you create 2D art it's going to have certain resolution and that cannot ne changed afterwards. As resolutions increase the picture is getting smaller and smaller unless you let you monitor scale lower resolution to monitors higher native res which causes ugly distortion in the Image.
  18. Half-Life was released '98 and it's still very much playable. Actually I think it's still pretty good looking in it's own way. I would even go so far to say it has aged better than BG or PS:T when it comes to graphics, because it still has endless resolution options and you can even add filters like AA or Anistropic, which in the time of release were unheard of, but still make game look much better today. With BG you are stuck with tiny 800x600 resolution unless you use mods. Can you tell us what resolutions are we using in 10 years and how we ensure PE will still support them? You definitively can create timeless 3D art. 2D on the other hand might not be as timeless as you make it sound like. EDIT: But, I still want to say that whatever developers choose to do I'm sure I'll be fine with it. They know what they are doing.
  19. I'm little reserved about isometric 2D style. In days of BG and PS:T it might have been the only sensible way of making this kind of RPGs, but nowdays 3D is real and I think also an affordable option. It allows so much smoother and painless gaming experience they should definitively go for it. I think the style inXile has chosen for Wasteland 2 would be best. It's kind of isometric 3D where you can zoom in and out, but camera doesn't get too close on characters so they don't need to be detailed. The demo didn't show camera rotating so I think that was also left out. Anyway, if they choose to go 2D I won't complain as long as story and gameplay are good. I just think they should consider 3D very carefully. It certainly has advantages over 2D.
  20. I can't really say before we know more about the culture and technology level of the world. It just wouldn't feel right if the game had every sword type that has ever been used in history of mankind, so in my opinion they have to choose one art style/culture and stick with that. Well, maybe a few exotic items here and there, but only a few. If they are going to add many different weapons, they also need to make sure rules offer enough variety. Wouldn't it be pointless to have 100 different types of swords which all behave basically the same? My only request regarding this matter would be, they make equipment realistic and something that could actually be used in real combat. So, no blades the size of a man like in certain JRPGs.
  21. What? You said that "permission" from a Publisher was the reason that games don't get patched. I said - that's essentially untrue, as the "permission" is the withholding of funds the devs need to do the work. That's just reality. It doesn't mean I don't "trust" Obsidian - whatever that even means. It's also a reality that this could be an issue in production of this game, unless Obsidian budget for a months extra coding time after release to fix stuff up. You are wrong in this one. If patching was an issue of money they would've 100% surely made it on their own. BUT, as we know it, Obsidian doesn't own any of the games they make. All are property of the publishers and it really isn't their call if they can patch those games or not. Publisher needs to run the QA for patch and approve it (they can't trust blindly in developers in this, can they?) and if they want to release it on consoles too, things get even more complicated because console manufacturers want to run their own QA and that definitively cannot be done without publishers call. And yes, they have said they are putting money aside to ensure that we will have the quality product we paid for. Maybe you should follow updates more closely before making assumptions.
  22. It's clear this is going to be low budget game compared to some other titles Obsidian has produced in past, but it's also an old-school RPG with isometric graphics and only partially voiced dialog; Something that is rarely if ever done nowdays and thus it's hard to find a fair comparison. Still, I'm sure they know what they are doing and if they say they are going to make this game with 2 million dollars, I believe them, but I won't hold it against them either if they slip with few of those stretch goals.
  23. All the info about badges can be found in Kickstarter reward tiers, but of course you'll have to wait for yours until project is funded, because pledges can still be changed or cancelled. I'm also pretty sure they are going to be something different than regular avatars, because those can be copied and used by anybody and it would be massive workload for moderators to keep people from doing that. We shall see in 19 days.
