Doom adds damage...how much it is in relation to what you do is not explained. Fire, Lightning, Poison, etc. all also add damage. How much 10 Fire does in relation to the damage when you hit isn't really revealed, as it seems to be different than actual 10 damage, but not certain on that, it's never explained. Most useful, Vampire, draws enemy life to you... That's a short explanation of the effects. Unfortunately their relationship to how much equals exactly how much damage you can expect from them is never explained, but you can extrapolate from what you see in game. I think someone on these forums posted it, or maybe another forum some idea that somewhat makes a little sense.

I Want My $$ back, and this is why...
greylord replied to serenityangel's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
That would only be if you bought it and it didn't do as it was described. DS3 does exactly as it says it does. The only MP commercial I saw was for a coop in front of the same console from the same couch...not separate computers. It isn't buggy really, and it isn't destroying computers or OS's. It's a jug of milk. It would be more apt that for some reason, you thought it was chocolate milk, even though it was white and labled as whole milk right on the jug. You thought it was chocolate milk because your favorite brand that has the same name has always been chocolate milk. Despite what the cover stated and what was known on the milk, you still felt that it had to be chocolate milk. Why you thought white milk was chocolate milk based totally on the name and not appearances is understandable, but to blame your mistake on the company would be rather foolish. In that regard you weren't the only one (I thought it would be chocolate milk too and found out it definately wasn't chocolate). You already opened it and drank it though, and just to be certain so that you could verify that it wasn't chocolate, instead of a taste (Demo), you drank the full thing. Then tried to return the jug for a refund. It doesn't normally work that way. I doubt the farmer would give you a refund anyways, as he wasn't the one even selling it to you. You should probably go to the store and see if they'll give you a refund for the empty jug. -
You are claiming a game that does exactly what it says it does, and isn't buggy for you from what I've seen, should give refunds for NOT being what YOU THOUGHT it was. That's about as relavant to the example as you get.

Camera Angles and the joys that go with
greylord replied to Jimbosmith's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
I can't agree with you enough!!!! Absolutely. After I played SP I decided to try it MP. I kept freakin dying...NOT because I couldn't play the game, but the camera enabled cheap shots and we had no way of getting to the enemy many times. You can't outrun homing missiles if you have to stay so close to companions sometimes, and the area is littered with immovable objects. It just got annoying. The camera IS one thing I'm hoping they fix in a patch and do something to resolve this portion of the MP play. -
Warning: All Your Chars are Belong to Host
greylord replied to shank's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
No reasons that I know of. It's a hot topic currently. -
I suppose you are also one of those that goes and buys a perfectly working HD TV, uses it heavily for two days and then tries to return it because you thought it was a computer and it wasn't. Then you complain to high heaven in the store because it's not a computer and we all wonder why you bought a TV if you wanted a computer in the first place. However, you aren't even advocating returning it to the place you bought it...you are saying that the TV maker should refund someone's money because they wanted it to be a computer. I don't think you realize how ridiculous you are making it sound on your refund demands.

it's not bad, but not great either
greylord replied to yoomazir's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
No offense, but you are dead wrong. There is far more than a few minor things wrong with this game. First off, in an attempt to get it to the console, the keyboard controls are very clunky. Secondly, the required dialog is boring and has no real effect no matter which option you choose. The combat is mostly hack and slash with very little other stuff. The inventory system is the worst I have ever seen. There is no character to the gear unlike the previous 2 versions of the game. The coop and online multiplayer are horrible. Not only can you not translate a character over from the single player, but the save you make is only good for that online game. This game has gotten a 5-6 rating from just about every site I have found. I am extremely disappointed, considering I really enjoyed this series....before this one. Torchlight 2 is coming in July and I am guessing the sales of this game will drop drastically once that comes out. You didn't play Dragon Age 2 did you...now THAT was bad inventory. I AM excited about Torchlight 2. If that had come out this month you better bet I'd be playing that right now. -
Oh my god did you see that new Pool of Radiance game? Sounds awesome. And if I don't like it I can just uninstall it. Nothing bad could ever happen. .... Come on as bad and old as that joke is it needed to be here... Now THAT was one instance I may have supported people calling for refunds. NWN also had that problem originally on occasiona. What's really foolish is that some of these people, if they are in the right nations, may actually be able to go back to the retailer and return the game if the game actually has something wrong with it. That they are complaining about it and not doing anything about it says TONS. They could even go to Ebay and sell it, it's still selling for round $40-$50 so they wouldn't take that much of a loss. But it looks like they'd rather complain than take responsibility over it. I think 1.04 repaired the uninstall ability on PoR, but you're right, that's an instance where I'd have supported people returning it to the store and asking for a refund.

If the game is broken, or destroys a computer, I may agree with you...but a game that works, your crazy. What, you're going to go eat at a Restuarant and if you don't like the food that you chose and ordered and was made according to regulations, you won't pay. I believe that's called Stealing. Then again, maybe you are one of those criminals and should be put away. IF it doesn't work or breaks your computer, I'd be all behind you, but to try to get money back on a working product is simply criminal in my opinion. At least you aren't as bad as the pirates. I don't know what inspired you to label me as a criminal but it is competely baseless and just makes you look a fool. Also personal attack and stuff. Its ok I understand though, I can feel the desparation in the fanboys arguments. On to your example/straw man: If the food is horrible I wil go and talk to a manager and the chef if they let me. I won't steal but I will voice my discontent and inform them that I don't believe it is fair to charge me for the meal. Obviously I won't eat all of it either. Whether they have the will to refund my food/not charge me is up to them. I would still tip the server in the above described situation. I never pirate video games. I play on Xbox 360 and I don't alter my Xbox either. You know what, I don't think it is really in the DS series of games, I think MP is toast...and some of your arguments I may support, but NOT FROM YOU. You've ranted and raved so much it's enough to turn friends into enemies. You're the type at the store that will use some article of clothes and bring it back a week later well used and soiled and demand a refund, yelling all the time while you make everyone else listen to you be an absolute pain. A nice coherent argument on your part I can understand, but demanding a refund for something that isn't broken AND YOU CHOSE YOURSELF TO BUY WITHOUT ANYONE FORCING YOU, is pretty annoying. Take responsibility for your actions, instead of trying to blame the world for your woes, and you'll find that the world is a nicer place. Blame the world instead of taking into account your own actions, and even those who may listen will turn against you.
-
But DS3 works as it is intended, doesn't destroy computers, and is within regulations. By your standards, NO COMPANY does what you are suggesting. NO nation enforces what you are suggesting. If it were actually broken or destroyed computers there ARE nations with laws that would call for refunds, but what you are asking for...not a single nation in the West...aka...free nation asks for what you are calling for. Even the non-free ones like China, don't have rules like that. Maybe they do in the Middle East, haven't checked on their laws... Try buying a new car, driving it off the lot and driving it for a few days, it has NO problems and works like it's supposed to, and then go tell the car seller that they have to take it back and give you a full refund, taxes included and see how far you get. You'll probably be laughed off the lot, and if you get violent...arrested.

I Want My $$ back, and this is why...
greylord replied to serenityangel's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
This game isn't breaking anyone's computer, and it runs, so I see no reason that anyone should get their money back. Afterall, they CHOSE to buy it themselves. If it were breaking computers, or simply didn't work, I'd back up the idea of getting money back, but for a game that's not that buggy at all (aka...runs as intended), there is no reason. The people asking for this, would they go to a supermarket, buy a jug of milk that was exactly that, a jug of milk that tasted like milk, was healthy, and was up to all the regulations or surpassed them...drink it, and then come back with the jug and demand their money back? That's the desipicable people that everyone hates. At least they aren't as bad as a straight thief (who doesn't even pay for the milk...aka...pirates), but I'd say close to if not criminal themselves. I bought the game, I had ample opportunity to read what everyone was saying about it (actually I pre-ordered the game, but I could have cancelled it if I had wanted to). I have no one to blame but myself for my purchase, and I feel the same goes for everyone else. Complain if you want, I understand complaints, but demanding money back in this instance is something that annoys me. Tell you what, reading these threads from people who say they should get money, takes my time, and I've spent some time reading these threads. So how about you pay me for my time, that's about $100 I would guess...and once you pay me, I'll take the money out of it to give the person who complains the most the money it cost them to buy the game. -

http://www.fileplanet.com/62609/60000/file...ntier-Wars-Demo Don't know where you are or if you could download games or not, but try this demo, it should keep you busy for a few hours or so. Or, if you're willing to spend a few dollars (since you'd pay anyways to ship a game of Fear2, though maybe not quite as much as a digital copy may cost...once you have it you can d/l it anywhere though)... http://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/store.aspx

In your opinion. I think DS2 was the best for gameplay IN MY OPINION.

You know, this.... doesn't make sense. All of Obsidians Games had either terrible PC Controls or a consolized interface. From KOTOR2 ugly big interface over NWN2 and all its problems regarding camera and controls to Alpha Protocols console UI and Fallout 3/NVs more console oriented design/UI I mean did you people really play the same Obsidian games as me? I'm sure back then you also complained about the same thing. What exactly makes this stuff better in retrospect if it bothers you so much now? Apparantly. I thought most of their games had nice enough control schemes, inclusive of DS3. The only problem I see would be having to push E in order to pick things up, normally just having it as a mouse click would do fine. I can understand some people's beef with the controls of DS3 or KotOR 2, etc., but overall there aren't that many problems.

Maybe I'm getting too old for gaming. I leveled up twice and can't seem to even get close to beeting her even though you folks have told me how. Maybe I should just get back to making real world money, rather than spending it on games One other option. Put it on EASY. Get another character in the game so you have a party of two. The second should be AI controlled, they'll probably not die on this battle. They'll also raise you if you die. Normally you'd get the AI character AFTER this battle, but you can place one in there instead. With an AI controlled companion to raise you when you die, it will give you second chances.

If it's the one that I think it is as suggested above Edit: My bad, I should have put spoiler tags up.

I actually think DS3 is a GREAT game. I think it's a stellar effort, and MUCH better then DA2 overall. I don't think it's a DS game as per what came before it, and I completely understand why DS fanboys are PEEVED. In fact, what we've seen here is minor compared to what I would expect after playing DS3 and having been a DS fan myself. I'd have thought the forums would be overwhelmed with their rage to the point where you wouldn't be able to keep up with hte posts. I also think they seriously need to come out with something to repair MP. The camera issue is pretty bad in my opinion. I LOVE the fact that you can play with a buddy at your side in the same room, but other aspects in MP, such as online or otherwise, cripple it to a degree. I'd want MP to be at the top of their list to repair...errr...I mean adapt to better aid those who have difficulties with it. AKA...enemies I can't reach or hit since they are off screen and I can't get to them off screen as they are attacking me. Graphics wise DS3 looks BETTER than DA2 in my opinion. You don't have aliens...errr...elves that look like aliens, nor do you have the same town graphics re-used 3 times in row to try to make it a "longer" game. I don't see DS3 as a bad game at all. I actually think the SP portion of DS3 is really good, better than many games out there. It's how they handled the MP portion, and the feel of the game in relation to the gameplay of other DS games that are giving it a bad rap from many...but definately NOT a bad game by any shot.

so you played DA2 demo but didn't play DS3 demo ? TBH , i think you exaggerated a lot when called the game a piece of garbage. If i am not wrong that are the favorite 3 words of haters. /thread. Not surprising about the Demo to tell the truth. I played the DA2 demo and didn't play the DS3 demo. I wasn't able to play it, I don't d/l via steam, and haven't hooked up to PSN after it's big hacking a little bit ago. I didn't find a Demo that was actually able to be D/L'ed without Steam when I looked, though ironically sites pointed me to full versions by pirates. I didn't d/l the pirated version, and I wasn't able to d/l the Demo. I bought it sight unseen to tell the truth. I did have a LOT of people complaining in the forums before I bought it however. On the otherhand, I don't regret my purchase. Even if I thought the game was junk, I would blame myself, as the only person to make a choice to buy was myself. No one twisted my arm and no one held a gun to me or coerced me in any other way. If I hated it, that's my money lost. Talking about someone not playing the Demo isn't valid in this arena however, as for many of us there was no demo really available. I haven't checked recently to see if it was made available to gamesites at large, but when you don't do that, it's not really catering to the entire audience around (and yes, there's a sizable portion of gamers that DON'T live off of STEAM...beleive it or not).

Seriously?! All he did was make me gloss over his little pictures of a game which I already HAVE. He didn't answer anything, but if he really wants to, why not write a text explaining why they don't simply list DAMAGE as DAMAGE instead of using the stats of Attack and DPS. It's much easier for someone to understand a piece of equipment that states Damage instead of Attack. This is what people mean when they want intuitive. Saying Attack will produce Damage = to something isn't intuitive, especially when I have a 35 attack, but doing 120 dmg. Apparantly Attack isn't a direct relationship to Damage. It took me a quarter of the game to think I figured out the math for it, and still it's only for DPS instead of actual direct damage...which is convoluted but explained the 35 Attck = 120 dmg. Adding in other effects such as Doom, lightning, and other items probably confuse people even more. The Help explains them in brief, but not really their relation to what they do. Furthermore, there isn't really anything in there telling people directly to look for a face behind the equipment in order to know what equipment their character is able to use (and nothing that says the equipment is organized into rows, with one row per character, when you open up the store). I can easily see how people don't catch these items. Mocking others that do not "get" such things is actually the worst thing I think some could do, as it only drives home to them how terrible the instruction of the game is, as well as how hostile these forums can be to people asking for help, or trying to give their own thoughts on what was wrong with the game and how it could be improved. I personally think the game needs a tutorial, or something a little better then what it does (even if it's only video tutorials included in a patch or free DLC). Basically, this guy didn't PWN anyone, all he did was appease the hostiles on the forums and convince others that the real trolls are those attacking any sort of criticism at all about the game. I actually think the lack of the tutorial and how non-intuitive the stats were isn't a terribly bad thing (lower the overall gamescore by maybe .1 out of 10...so if it was a 9, it would then be an 8.9). The SP portion of the game itself I thought WAS outstanding. However I think it needed a better tutorial, and assuming that we can't read or didn't read is pretty insultive. Perhaps there are things that people are trying to figure out beyond what is already provided in the "help" topics, which are friggen short and not that comprehensive in what they cover in the first place. Where in Help does it spell out the amount of XP needed to gain each level and how much each stat or HP goes up per level for each character? Maybe it's in your copy...mine seemed to have missed that portion.
-
This game IS particularly BAD at instructions. I read the help section, it only gives a vague idea of how things work. I still assume that my Attack is what is causing the DPS, or Damage per second to rise, and suppose at the direct relation...but why is it DPS and not Instant Damage...what is the exact math. I would assume it's Attack - Armor...but is that correct, that's what the Help implies. There's a LOT that is really not explained at all. I think you guys are going to harsh on this person, as there really isn't any tutorial, and the Help section isn't that much help at all.

With all those who are saying it's not a Dungeon Siege game. Now I'm not a newcomer to this forum just saying this to troll or complain, and I've given it chances while I played. I played it on Casual (yes, Casual, since everyone else and their dog had it before me apparantly because it was released so late in the US [or pirated by everyone but a few of us] my goal was to see how accurate the complaints were or weren't and analyze more exactly what the good and bad were). I played both SP and MP. The feel of the game and how it flows is NOTHING like the other DS games. Period. If I were a DS fan...oh wait...I am.... Many DS fans are probably livid. Their reactions are actually a LOT more sedate than I would have thought. This game is something other than the other DS games that have come out. If a hardcore DS fan reviewed this game I'd expect them to give it score no higher than a 4 in relation to how it is with the other games if their bias was included. As a NON-DS game however, and how it should properly be reviewed, the SP portion is OUTSTANDING. As a game on it's own, without the DS name to rely on (which would mean sales would be lower in my opinion) I think it's a stellar effort. I didn't run into bugs, the graphics look gorgeous, the dialogue choices are great, and overall the game runs awesomely. If SP was the only factor it was rated on I think it should be an 8 or higher. Maybe a 9 even. The only real complaint I have is that there there is no real explanation of what the stats do, how they affect your character, and how the weapons work in relation to them. It took me a quarter of the game to figure out all the relations of the stats and equipment...and I don't think I'm that stupid (maybe I am though). There needs to be more information in the instruction booklet, or a better tutorial in the game. It's NOT intuitive in and of itself. Second, with sell back being so little, there's no reason for random junk for other characters to pop up. It makes the extra equipment more into a finding junk game that is absolutely useless. Either make sell back worth a little more, or simply give you weapons that are applicable to your character in the SP game. Now MP is MESSED UP! In a MAJOR WAY. This should be rated a 6, maybe a 5 overall. First off, I think they ramp up the difficulty in MP to MUCH. I played MP on Casual with my daughter (yes, she's only 6, but that's one other reason to play Casual). I was dying constantly...ON CASUAL. Now, I had just beaten the game in SP...so theoretically I should not die THAT much in MP. In fact, I started dying early on against bosses, which after beating the game should have meant I had the skill to literally tromp them to the dust. Not so... They need to patch it so at least on Casual the MP portion does NOT ramp up this much. Period. It shouldn't feel like I'm playing on Hard while doing the game in MP on casual. It's stupid. Secondly, the enemies go off screen, especially the bosses, and attack you. No so much a problem in SP, but in MP...if one is handling minions and the other trying to attack the boss, but you can't see the boss = stupid. In fact ridiculously so. We're being attacked by things we can't attack back? That actually feels like a cheap tactic. This screen thing needs to be fixed pronto via a patch...IMO. I don't have tons of time right now, but for the short end...they need to fix the MP portion, whether online or side by side with your buddy (in my case my daughter, and she's not bad with videogames overall, before people crash too hard on my parade...also remember I DID beat this same difficulty in SP so I don't think it should be THAT much tougher in MP). I understand why DS fans are outraged. The SP portion of the game is outstanding nonetheless...Great job Obs. No real bugs that I've run across. Great Job Obs and SE. The MP portion...now that's just screwed up big time.

Poll: DLC or a new multiplayer?
greylord replied to AdDugg's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
I put down MP. I think the current version is geared more towards those on consoles who want to play with their buddy...which is GREAT! I'm glad they included that option. HOWEVER, with the complaints of how it's handled online or PC to PC, I think it's a big enough chunk that a better MP mode would probably be the better thing for them to work on at this point... IMO (as if it had to be said). -
If that is the case how can you explain FF XIV? Recognizable brand name and the usual publisher didn't save it from poor critical reception. And gaming industry has seen it's fair share of high budget - high profile screw ups. Even back when Daikatana was coming people were still willing to criticize it regardless of weather they will lose the rights to a doom 3 preview simply because upsetting your regular audience with such practices is not worth the short term boost a couple of previews may bring. Because it's not the FF we're interested in. Its an online game vs. the rest of the series. Still it's a good example. It's one that, even if it's broken as heck, still got rated no lower than a 5 or 6 by many sites...and still has a score of 4 when it was it was basically an unplayable game. Should an unplayable game even be rated a 4? Think about it.
