FF 9 didn't even make it into the top 20? what is this... I don't even... My sentiments exactly. I'm wondering if the readers even voted on this thing or if they voted but were over ridden by Editors. I imagine their boards (all in Japanese) are a mess about the article. I actually don't have a problem with where X or VII are placed...but something is off in that poll looking at where IX and VI are located. I mean...REALLY off. VI especially. I'm surprised Grandia made it on the list...but great game. Since Grandia Made it, wondering where any representation of the Lunar series is on that list?

Does this mean they'll finally add PS2 backwards compatibility for your average PS3 now days? Or do you think it's a total remakes so PS2 isn't even a factor (I'm sort of hoping PS2 engine is still there in the game, but graphics upgraded to HD).

What did they do to the aliens...errr...elves? She actually looks like an Elf!? Did they just figure out people thought the new looks for elves made people think they were aliens from some sci-fi movie, or is this elf chick (assassin?) something different?

I liked the Force unleashed 2...all Five minutes of it! (Recently played both the first and the second...I actually thought they were worth the money I paid...of course that's a LOT LESS than people payed for it when they were new). (edit: Yes, I exaggerated a little, TFU2 did take slightly longer than 5 minutes...but it WAS short. I also still thought it was worth what I paid for it). I'd love if they came out with a new X-wing type game. The old ones are bastiges to try to get running on Win 7 64 bit machines. I still haven't gotten X-wing alliance to run...I can get the game to run, but once it starts a mission it crashes...hard.

Wow...wow...wow. That stinks. I'm glad you gave a heads up.

Now that's a bit far fetched, no? Ever thought about that Blizzard got tired of hunting down cheaters/hackers and shut down their accounts? Not to mention constantly issue patches because some funny hacker screwed up the whole online infrastructure because Blizz decided to make everything open? Why even bother with these people? That's like trying slapping a NDA on the Diablo 3 beta in an age of youtube, facebook, and "You are connected" age. Not even worth it. And LAN? Who even uses that today? LAN used to be cool, like 10 years ago when internet speed used to be a lot slow(er). Uhhm...blizzard STILL has to hunt down cheaters nad hackers in SCII (yes there are those out there) and even in WoW! And yes, they still issue patches. So yes, they still have to bother with those people.

Or you knock out some old lady in the mall, and buy it with money from her purse. Now now that would be illegal, don't you think? No, it's ok because she wasn't going to spend that money anyway, so it's not a lost sale or something. So, it's perfectly ok as long as you don't talk to steam support about it? Kind of like mugging the old lady is ok if you don't get caught? :D No no no, you just make sure you don't mug the same lady twice. You also need to make sure no one else mugs her. Maybe you can take her home and put her on a shelf, that will keep it legal. That's sort of my thoughts as well...it's not that mugging or buying the keys is illegal...is more about not bringing attention to yourself from the authorities...afterall...they may feel that mugging the old lady WAS illegal or something...how shocking. Personally, to tell the truth...more power to Morg if that's how he get's his keys...at least he's paying someone. It may be the pirates hiding under the illusion of being legit and making a bundle off of him...but at least he's trying to pay someone something. In other news...info on Diablo III http://blues.incgamers.com/Posts/10/1/40/8...ly-test-and-nda and this may not be a good sign for Blizzard from the Hackers...some say it's from the Chinese...though it appears it's just people in the know scouring the internet... http://www.gamefront.com/diablo-3-closed-b...fo-leaks-early/ And...while we're on that subject of hacking and finding out about the prefixes in the Diablo III beta...on the subject of DRM Just Causes' Christofer Sundberg speaks... http://www.next-gen.biz/news/avalanche-drm-helps-no-one One last thing, list of video cards that work with Diablo III beta is out supposedly...but it's a LONG list so won't crowd out the forum by posting them here.

Despite a LOT of people's fondness for STEAM, I think it's actually NOT as big a part of the market as people would like. They constantly try to say PC gaming isn't dying even though retail sales are falling through the floor by stating it must all be going to Steam (of course if that were true, someone's statement that an owner of Steam could buy MS, Nintendo, and Sony for one month's pay would actually be pretty close to accurate, though I'm betting he can't). One also has to remember that Steam sales many times ALSO includes those who buy games that install steam to run on the computer...ironically. Not always, but sometimes. Like one game I got, it wasn't actually on the Disk, it still had to download from Steam...which sort of made me upset. All the disk seemed to be was the Steam program with the authentication that I bought the game so it could download it. I think DD are getting to be significant, especially STEAM, but I don't think it's normally going to be the escape route for a game to sell well if it doesn't appear to be doing so in retail. That stated, at this point I don't know how well or badly DX:HR is going to do.
-
I don't know about the marketing, I just know my own experiences with it, which is what I stated above. It does look like it was sandwiched between two games I heavily played, X-Wing Alliance and Diablo 2 (followed by BG2 if I recall correctly). Somehow it just got missed in there.

For a multiplattform title the PC Version does actually pretty well. (IMO) I also read somewhere that Portal 2 sold a couple of million units. Most of them - surprise - on PC. So no, 80k units for a franchise that started on the PC is not good. That's just outright bad. First Week And Portal 2s PC sales were quite extraordiary so its not the best comparison. Edit: Also even though DX started on PC its been a decade. Many players from back then moved on/went to consoles etc.. And for those who got interested and played later its "only" a legacy and don't really have the "It has to be on PC" feeling. I may be one of those. I got off of PC gaming as much due to the DRM and have to authenticate online with limited installs type thing which I don't have to worry about with consoles. I've been thinking about picking up DX:HR on console...not certain yet. I like what I've been hearing, so cautiously optimistic...but unsure. If I pick it up though, it will probably be for the PS3 instead of Computer.
-
I didn't even hear about PS:T until after it came out. I will admit, the artwork didn't exactly inspire me to buy it either. I also admit I waited until it was in the bargain bin to pick it up.
-
A Mass Effect branch off game which is basically a shooter for the PS3? Naaaaww...though that would be a supreme way to strike back at MS with one of the few brands that started as an MS only game (ME1).
-
I just started the Force Unleashed...and...there you go...it's already finished. That was quick. It was frustrating too...I think the They say tfu 2 is even shorter...that'll take me all of 2 hours then... I actually really enjoyed TFU, I think it did take me around 10 hours...and I think it was worth the money, but I bet some people were really upset with how short it was...especially since there was no MP...at least with the core version (I haven't gotten any DLC for it, though I hear the DLC has some fun missions, I also hear they are also even shorter missions than what came with the game). I'm thinking of playing Agarest War: Generations of War and Agarest Zero next.
-
It's better than the 5 sidequests ME2 has. Which are each about 3 minutes. Bit of an understatement, if you add all the extra (DLC) content and consider the companion quests as optional you get 10 sidequests. Which are about 3 minutes. And on the death screens: Didn't they hyped ME2 as a suicide mission which you had little chance of survival and your companions would die. Yeah, fool me once BW... And if you are counting the main companion quests as 5 minute sidequests (saying that's how you keep time, this is in relation timescope wise) I guess that's still better than the 5 mainquests of the original ME which each took 7 minutes each for a total of 35 minutes of gametime!!!! Though the original did have a ton of sidequests...probably around 12...all taking around 30 seconds and basically being the same two quests in the same two buildings but with different names on each planet that they took place on.

Great Article. I think some of this is coming to a fore quicker than later...for example, the entire comparisons between Torchlight 2 (independant) and Diablo 3 (Big Publisher). Ironically, the TL people USED to be the small time publishers and developers that made the company a Big Time publisher which was then published by an even bigger publisher....and NOW they are once agian a small time/Indie and seen as competing against their old baby...who is now owned by a Big publisher.... How times change and get all convoluted. That's just the tip of the iceberg...tons of indie games out there...some great...some not so great.
-
Not to be a spoilsport, but DA2 > ME2. And I have beachfront property with a great ocean view for 20 million an acre in Iowa that you can buy...and glad that you are willing to pay so much for it sight unseen.

And look, they even have a Diablo style pet for WoW...Merkablo... They should just stop the charade and state they REALLY REALLY wanted to make D3 into a pure MMORPG...sovle a lot of the debates if they just went ahead and called it a free to play MMORPG like Guild Wars (which you can also have a single character on your server and have a size limit of a party once you start quest...at least from what I understand it in the sequel, you can even do it SOLO!!) but with a better plan for bringing in funds (AH/RMT instead of Guild wars 2 nothing?)

Mmm yeeeah. Good thing the whole online only thing and the services it encompasses didn't slow down development. That's some Blizzard class sophistry there. Yeppers...I remember they actually had AN OFFICIAL mod for the original Diablo...as it wasn't by blizzard at all, but sponsored by them. It was made by Sierra and called Hellfire. Sierra called it an expansion...many called it simply an official mod. (There was one for the original Starcraft too, not Brood War, there was another official Mod but called an expansion by another company than Blizzard, can't recall the name for it right off the top of my head right now). You don't get much more Mod support than giving your official sanction to another company for them to Mod your game and call it an expansion. D2 never had official mod support...BUT it didn't have Mod denial either. You were allowed to have as many mods in use as you wanted as long as you weren't on B-net...if you played SP or played via Lan...play mods to your open desires (I think they also were allowed in open B-net, never tried that though). With them no longer having a true SP mode like the other Diablos, or open multiplayer...so closed BNet is your ONLY choice...I suppose it makes sense that they wouldn't allow Mods to be supported.... But taking a few years to have Mod support....unless he's talking about how long he thinks it would take for them to institute an unhackable SP offline (since SP is always hackable...a few years is probably an optimistic outlook, more like a few decades)...I think is BS. WoW has Mods and Bots and other things and it wasn't designed to really accept them either if I recall correctly. Of course Blizzard bans those that it doesn't like regularly...BUT...it's not about not supporting them so much as actively working to deny them from being played in the game period. And for the AH/RMT it's vital that they don't allow mods, as if you get a mod that creates certain things or does something to disrupt the flow of cash for the AH/RMT...well that's bad for Blizzard (no matter how much the fans may like it)...regardless of whether it is SP only mod or not (remember, no true SP...that SP character they want you to continue MP, probably so they can attract you to the AH/RMT market eventually).

That's kinda the idea, I mean it's you who's trying to make the case that these mythical gamers without INTERNET are out there. I'm only responding to what you claim. The original question was "But what about those without a stable internet connection? What should a player do if, say, the internet wiring in his house is flawed? ", I don't see any mention of BROADBAND. And that's because you do not need broadband to play online, don't try to shift the argument to something it wasn't in the first place. Here's a study about internet usage in the US during 2010: http://www.internetworldstats.com/am/us.htm Users with any type of access: 239,893,600 Users with broadband: 85,287,100 Actually, I think you were the one who shifted the argument. My unhappiness was with the guy's arrogant "take it because we'll force you to take it" type attitude more than anything else. If you see, I was already planning on buying Diablo 3, it's his attitude that's turning me off. If that's the attitude they are going to cop, and keep copping, we'll, that's one which basically puts the customer last and puts the pirates, the developers, the cats, the Hollywood movies, the zoo animals, the plants in the forest, and everything else before those who actually are buying and supporting your game. If that's the attitude that they'll take towards anyone, that "screw you, you guys need to change the way you live, and stop playing our games the wrong way, play it only how we tell you too because we are so much smarter than you" type attitude...well that actually CAN turn me off from playing the game or even buying it. I can live with their DRM scheme for one copy...but it's the attitude that's going to completely turn me off of this game.

Fine, I'll bite. The US has a population of 308,745,538. According to this paper 72% of US citizens play video games (this includes everything from handhelds to consoles and PCs alike) so that would be 222,296,787 individuals. Do you know how many of those live in Montana ? 0,4 % http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demographics_...e_United_States So yes, it is perfectly fine for Mr. Wilson to COMPLETELY ignore the whole state of Montana and still be successful in his business. What!? Do you really want me to go down listing all the states which lack high speed internet in their Rural areas? Or did you REALLY think Montana was the ONLY place? It may have one of the larger areas without high speed internet (however it's not the largest, NOR the one with the most area without high speed internet) in the US, but it's not the only place by far. I used it as an example. Those without a constant High speed internet connection (aka, one that actually is always on and never has a break in service...aka...thunderstorms knock it out for an hour or other accidents) actually comes close to zero. We could simply put Mr. Wilson in New Orleans or Miami (big cities actually) right when some cat 4 or cat 5 hurricanes hit and knock out the power for a day or two and the internet for longer. That's probably when I'd be primarily playing Video games. As for 200 million plus Americans playing Video games...you really think that's the PC gamer (not the light games like Bejewelled, but the heavier PC gamer market that would play Blizzard games) market for Blizzard? I'd put the market as primarily male between the ages of 12 and 50, with another major demographic (but probably lower then 25%) being female between the ages of 18 and 40...many of them with a liking of Fantasy or Science Fiction and a PC that actually runs PC games.

I didn't know Congonese were PC gamers with their $40 monthly wages and all, I guess you learn something new everyday. If you guys REALLY wanted to play D3 in the first place the internet requirement wouldn't deter you away. You remind me of: "Maan, this ain't no single player, this is a facist internet game, Diablo 3 to the ground!" They actually have gamers everywhere believe it or not. that's of course disregarding the ENTIRE fact that you pointedly missed the entire point of my post...but hey... Haters are going to hate...and that goes for those that are defending Wilson's derogatory comments (much of which people focused on the No internet thing, I was looking at his sarcasm...and made me simply want to put him in his place) to...well...everyone. Congo's too far out for you...How about Montana outside of the city (which is only about 90% of it granted...the other 10% are all gathered in nice internet hotspots). Probably around 50% of the US would count as well landwise...is that a good enough nation for you? Just put him out in one of the far rural areas and tell him he can't leave until he rewires to get high speed internet...and he has to do it on a job he can find there (so no using his savings or anything else). Considering some of those places require that you not only rewire the house...but lay the actual cable down in the first place...let's say he even get's to be a manager (since he won't own any land starting off), at 60,000, the 20,000 to rewire his house won't be too hard...the 6 million to lay cable to where he lives...well...if he puts his entire salary towards it and only lives on grass and water...that should only take him 100 years to pay for it.
-
No, the arrogant part is his comments. Question to Mr Wilson: What happens if you don't have a good internet connection... His answer: Rewire your house (and pay a couple thousand dollars for the pleasure of allowing you to play my $60 game) He should have said something more like: We balanced the pros and cons and found that to ensure a solid experience we needed the always on internet...so you won't be able to play if you don't have that requirement. Much more polite and nice. Question to Mr Wilson: What if people don't want to play the game online in singleplayer His answer: (you IDIOT!) You're playing the game completely wrong (and have been for the past 15 years you fools), you play it our way, or you can forget about it. He should have said something more like this: While we understand the concern of everyone, We want to make the game as good as possible for everyone, even the Single Player game. Unfortunately, the best solution we've found to ensure that there is a good Multiplayer aspect where people can't hack the server and the code is to also have the Single Player online. More wordy? Yes...but also much more acceptable. I don't give a dang how "correct" he may think he is, I'd give him a good one/two to his face if he talked to me like that in a bar. He comes across as a VERY arrogant prick. His attitude seems more like... you'll take it up the rear end and like it...because I SAID you will like it...who cares what you think. And that attitude is sort of the exact type to make me simply say, I don't need to put up with that from anyone, much less someone trying to sell me something. As I said, I hope this is an isolated incident. It's not enough to put me off from buying the game, but a few more episodes like that, showing that sort of arrogance...well...I'm a customer...I don't need to put up with someone being a smart alek to me...I'll just let them play by themselves.
-
Someone actually thought this was news and was surprised about it? Errr...I guess some were surprised and thought it was news...
-
I guess Blizzard is not a proponent of gaming on laptops. I just read that interview. As one of those that have stated I am greviously disappointed, that I probably would not buy MANY copies like I did with Diablo 2, BUT I WOULD STILL BUY a copy of Diablo 3...I'm starting to rethink that idea. I love the Diablo series thus far, I'd say I have been pretty much a locked in buyer from the day they announced Diablo 3...you can even check the earlier thread on this. I'm pretty anti-DRM HOWEVER REGARDLESS I still planned on buying a copy. Still, tentatively do...BUT I'm starting to be put off by the entire arrogance of the people running Blizzard these days. That guys arrogance is actually somewhat infuriating. Suggesting someone rewire their entire house (a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollar job) because he, in his infinite wealth thinks everyone should be able to do that!? I'd like to kick him to the middle of the Congo for a month and then then ask him why he wasn't online for so long...did he just need to rewire his house or something? WOW...talk about his audacity...that entire rewire holds for swaths of the US in some rural areas...they don't just have to rewire their house, but the lines leading to the house as well. I still am buying a copy of Diablo 3 at this point, and hope this guy's arrogant take and simply ridiculous sneer was out of the ordinary...but if this is the type of attitude they are going to cop...I don't care who they are, they deserve a good swing at the face or at least allowed to fail miserably at whatever they are trying to force someone into. They keep up that type of..."We know all our hardcore fans will buy it no matter what we say or how we treat people" and I have to admit, even if I want to play, I might not buy it simply on principle that I find that type of behavior towards customers or even potential customers as so off putting that they don't need my business. If they truly feel they can treat people like dirt underfeet and not even sort of speak politically nice...well I guess they don't need people playing their games like me either. I'm probably simply unique in that, I planned on buying the game even though I don't agree with the DRM thingy...so even that wasn't enough to stop me...but start treating and talking down to me like your a king and we are peasants...I'll simply chuck your game and ideology out to the curb and find some other entertainment. If I'm NOT unique however in disliking being spoken to like chattel, I don't understand their strategy because it's going to kill sales, and if that happens and it sales terribly they'll blame Pirates or something else other than their AH/RMT/DRM...and especially probably won't remember that they probably pissed off many potential buyers simply because of this...I'm better than you attitude.

On a different note besides People expressing how they feel I'm stupid... A new game has been announced. I grew up on this series...pretty awesome, not sure what I think about the announcement yet. Maybe some old school goodness reinvigorated...or maybe not... http://lonewolfthegame.com/video.html
