  1. Figuratively speaking, I should've probably specified that.
  2. I'm British, we're born deluded. Lol... I'm figuratively speaking of course. What I'm saying is that they shouldn't stray too far from the BG2 formula. Yes, there is the same 2D landscape present, but there is a lot more that BG2 offered up in terms of a tried and tested gameplay mechanic, etc... PS: I'm also really good at standing in a que.
  3. I've known what the attributes do, but It's not like I've used them before and experienced what it feels like to play with them. Just because you read up on sex and watch some movies, it doesn't mean you know what the real experience is like. The same can be said with all things, work, wives, children...
  4. lol, You'll have to stand in line behind my wife and mother- in-lawThey also use the same avatar? nope, but they've got dibs on slapping me.
  5. I can't imagine Obsidian including these awesome portraits without the option to create a character that truly looks like that. Please Obsidian, give us Godlike hair! I 100% agree, if the characters in the creator looked like this I'd certainly play them or at least certainly have these companions on my party. These are attractive portraits but character models are nothing like them. Could it be a suggestion to have lovely 2D paper dolls in character/inventory screen... I think this would solve quite a few problems. I can understand the headaches blowing up the 3D in-game model is causing to appearance in the character screen. This is however easily avoidable. I think I'd actually prefer a 2D character/inventory screen. It would give it a more vintage feeling.
  6. Solution... See BG2 - Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V.
  7. Okay my thoughts are that the game is currently further away than I'd like from BG2 when it comes to interfaces, mechanics, etc... My thoughts were that the game would be a copy/paste (figuratively speaking of course) of BG2 with shinier graphics, new story line, and in a new fantasy world. With some incremental changes in various levelling and gameplay mechanics. Landscape Graphics - tick in the box, confident it'll be awesome when finished Character/monster models - so/so, I'm sure it'll get more polish by release. All look too clunky for my liking, could be more lean and mean with better colouring. Races/Backgrounds - so/so - think the godlike are too strange and stat bonuses, etc don't excite me personally, nothing is compelling me to play something other than a human, especially combined with the current downgrading of the relevance of attributes there doesn't appear to be any benefit to playing a specific preferred class with a race. Story - pass. Attributes, skills, levelling system, etc - Uncomfortable with this, was good in theory but in practice it isn't playing out as expected, currently feels alien and far too dissimilar to the IE games UI - it'll get there I'm sure Character creation - can I roll please, this old school pen and paper gamer can only hope. Would like more detailed and slimmer/ more attractive models with some more options. Portrait is so important to me and I'd rather have 2D model Like BG2 in the character/inventory with a lot more portrait variations. These are the key things that come up initially
  8. I was looking forward to spending an hour rolling for stats... One can only dream. I like the idea that myself and various companions have a higher or lower stat pool based on dice rolls. I'm old fashioned that way and certainly don't believe that all are born equal.
  9. Did you play a tabletop game where your character's soul was the measure of their power? Yeah, I didn't think so. One of the key design goals of Pillars of Eternity was every attribute being useful to every character. You can rail against that all you like, but you're not going to change anything. Did you play a tabletop game where your character's soul was the measure of their power?Yeah, I didn't think so. One of the key design goals of Pillars of Eternity was every attribute being useful to every character. You can rail against that all you like, but you're not going to change anything.I'm not sure it's an invalid point that won't get any attention. Various design mandates and new ideas were set out by the developers, but how they feel to players who are now testing it is quite important. I was on board with the concept, but now that I'm playing with it, the reality is that I'm struggling to engage properly with the system and am not really enjoying it. It kind of feels like it doesn't matter if characters have similar attribute distributions; and I don't like that feeling.
  10. Pretty sure they said that there would be appearance related issues for godlikes in the game.Okay, that makes sense then. They'd certainly endure a fair amount of discrimination IRL.
  11. PoE's attributes don't work exactly like D&D. There aren't good or bad stats for any class, really. The stats will change how you play your characters, though. For example, If I want a Wizard that has high Might and Resolve, his spells will do additional damage (might) and it will be harder for enemies to interrupt his casting (resolve). If instead I put points into Intelligence and Dexterity, the Wizard's spells will have longer durations and a larger area of effect (intelligence) and the spells will hit more often (dex). Seriously... I say nay and nay some more. I'm not feeling this; hopefully there will be some significant tweaking that goes into the existing system, as this currently makes little common sense to me. Maybe just go back to traditional Str, Dex, Con, Wis, Int, Cha methodology & be done with all of this tomfoolery.
  12. lol, You'll have to stand in line behind my wife and mother- in-law
  13. Not too happy with the weirdness to be honest, would prefer to have option to have a more toned down appearance as it is aesthetically very displeasing. I won't be playing a godlike or in fact have a godlike in my party should they look the way they currently do regardless of how powerful the character is. Regardless, there should be more significant additional bonuses associated with being a godlike, various immunities, attribute bonuses, etc; this could be balanced with a slower rate of gaining experience or reduced skill points pool, etc. Just doesn't make sense to have them without more significant bonuses. Maybe the penalty could be their appearance, lol...
  14. I feel strongly about this topic. I feel that characters look very clunky and immediately lost interest in the beta upon character creation. I actually preferred the dimensions used on wasteland 2 models. The characters all look overweight to me and are quite unattractive surely we can make it more life-like and have more attractive characters with better Hair options all hair options look like a variation of dreadlocks to me. The biggest headache for me is the godlike races. I'd love to play godlike due to the cool concept, but I can't cope with how weird they are, surely there is a way to have variations that are a lot more subtle as in tieflings from bg. Just can't handle my character running around with a shell for a head for the entire game.
  15. I'm not a massive fan of the troll concept shown, as I'm after more nostalgia towards BG/IWD; however if the bestiary is diverse and relevant and fits well into an epic story then I can enjoy it. The main thing I liked about certain encounters in BG especially was that there was an element of comedy around certain encounters, with gibberlings being humorous and ogres being properly dim-witted at times. It adds flavor to encounters and that's what a good bestiary does. Hence I got bored at times with games like Skyrim as the bestiary was all about hyper-aggressive kill-kill-kill mode there wasn't really that interlude or run up to the conflict. I'm hoping the bestiary will give us that variation and that certain encounters will be humorous or downright creepy and every single creature isn't as single-minded as to simply attack you on sight and might actually want to engage with you first...
  16. Seriously… I want some trolls up in here not those things… One thing that irks me with a lot of games now is that monsters are called trolls, orcs, ogres, dragons, etc.; but then come out looking nothing like the classic depiction. These be trolls – Dum dum eat human, arggg…
  17. As a note I think it would be nice for the devs to initiate a few more polls when asking for their opinion on certain gameplay elements, it iot better way of consolidating the various veiw. eg: Josh's money sink poll would've been a better answered or at least the opinion of the community better monitored in a poll.
  18. Everyone hops the game if fun to play and I'm sure it will be. The purpose of polls is to try and give an indication of where kickstarter backers stand on various topic, which the developers can then disregard or incorporate into their design. Just as the various backers can be divided in opinion amongst the backer community, the developers can also be divided in opinion amongst themselves. Hell, an individual can have conflicting opinions of their own. These polls can give valuable direct where conflict arises. This acts as a form of market research which any company worth their salt does. What I'd actually like to see is some polls initiated by the devs asking backers feedback where they are unsure. Point and case, Josh ask for opinions on what he feels are the best money sinks, that sort of thing should go into a poll which is a lot better way of ascertaining the community's opinion. PS: the whole kickstarter thing is still all very new new territory and I'm sure the process and communication/feedback loop will continue to evolve over time.
  19. Okay,so I thought it would be nice to do a simple poll on crafting. The main point is to see which games out of my limited selection you would like to see influence the PE crafting system the most. Obsidian will obviously do their best to make the most compelling crafting system that'll add to gameplay and enjoyment. This will hopefully be able to give some sort of indication as to what games we'd like to influence the crafting system. Hopefully my selections as answers are reasonable and offer up a suitable array of options.
  20. Best money sink ever... War & conflict. Game of throne WTF. If it's in the story and you need to round up some bannermen or encourage bannermen/mercenaries to your desired side of a conflict that will cost boatloads of gold. Mix it up a bit as well, have an economic collapse of sorts and have all the player's cash in a bank frozen or wiped out. You get robbed while camping - quest related of course, otherwise a lot of upset folk:) Nice to be able to get cash back from this. Player's stronghold gets sacked while he/she is out questing, that'll cost a pretty penny to sort out. Your next door neighbor is getting really irritating and interfering in your business, you're not going to go up to him and kill him as you have your reputation to think about. Hire an assassin, that doesn't come cheap. Sponsor a combat/magic training academy in your name that'll supply your military effort with recruits. Open up a personal harem if that's your thing:) (Also a great spy network - Littlefinger style) There are so many cool things to spend money on that can be tied into main and side-quests, I suppose what I'm getting at is variation and quirkyness is cool & personally I love gold spend to be quest related & meaningful as in building up your personal powerbase/spy network/militia. There are sooooooooo many things in reality that you can spend your cash on, just look to everyday life and the news for inspiration.
  21. As described in post #1, repairs cannot be performed "in the field", only at Forges or Vendors. Also, inventory has no weight so you should be able to carry every conceivable material required to repair, make potions and cook food/drinks. Inventory has no weight? Say what? That sounds like a poor gameplay adaptation to accommodate a lame crafting system where everyone has overflowing inventories. I'm not sure whether an Egypt style petition is required on the direction crafting is going as it'll have ramifications across a lot of gameplay elements. This doesn't feel very much in the spirit of IE games! WORST UPDATE EVER, I can imagine people in Obsidian must've also been divided on this one, stupid, stupid stretch goal messed everything up.
  22. I don't post a lot, but had to remember my password and login to add my sentiments as I feel strongly about this. This was my initial thought. NNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOO..... That is not the spirit of the infinity engine games which were built around hard to obtain loot. I remember BG1 where I was walking around for ages with a crappy 2 handed sword which broke (damned iron shortage) and needed replacing on occasion. My glee at finding a 2H sword +1 a good deal into the game was palpable (I recall only 3 enchanted 2H swords, one of which was cursed - that is rarity). I want that same feeling of being drip fed the good loot and fear that this type of crafting with make special items a lot less special and give access to good loot to easily. Please don't deviate too far from the BG2 & TOB crafting model, that was at least interesting as you were actually excited to find crafting recipes especially with regards to making equipment. Cluttered inventory and shopping for ingredients is uber grindy and makes finding rare and unique loot less rewarding as you can simply build the stuff yourself. Don't mind the master dwarven blacksmith who smithed for 200 years before he created his singular masterpiece infused with godly magic by chance as it was used in combat against a demon, I'll just pump some skill points into one of my gang and he can do the same despite the fact it's only the fourth time he's worked at a forge; but that's okay because a book showed him how to do it! C'mon, please don't go down that road. There's my 2 cents.
