  1. I don't think we have enough information about the system they're going to use to jump up and down about it's deficiencies yet. There is every chance that they will tweak whatever they use to make the most of it, so something we think sounds dull now we may end up really enjoying. I just want to keep a open mind about things.....except in the case of Paladins, they have to have Paladins!
  2. Yes they could but without recognition the choice is meaningless.
  3. You know I 100% agree with you. I think where it gets interesting for people who do choose to play as a 'defined' subclass like Paladin is that in addition to being treated poorly for their choices they want the villagers to react with a ' (horrified) I thought you were here to save us!' response and hopefully get kicked out of their order if they accumulate enough evil deeds (or just piss off the wrong faction). People who like playing this way want expectations on their behaviour even if they are going all out to disappoint those expectations because of what they are supposed to represent.
  4. Do they really need to have a "title" of their own? What if you can pick skills and feats/traits/whatever that can make your fighter do what a paladin does in traditional D&D? I'm probably hoping for more character build customization options than a larger number of traditional classes. I don't think this is mutually exclusive. I think you can have a flexible system and still include traditional subclasses without it being a huge drain on resources. Where the titles have importance is that when people choose these I guess iconic roles to play they want to have who they are reflected in the game. So for someone playing as a Paladin it would be frustrating for them if in-game they were reacted to as a standard healer cleric. The same would go for a bard, you want to be treated as a wandering minstrel rather than as a catburgler - does that make sense? Also in a text based game I can't see why this would be a problematic feature for them to include. After all it's largely a matter of typing 'Hello Lord-Knight' instead of 'Hello Holy Father' I imagine.
  5. @curryinahurry - yeah I think everyone gets that I think we're really just pushing for them to be a 'supported 'subclass in game and so have some sort of in-game reactivity to the choice to play as one. At least that's been my interpretation of the comments, I don't think there would be too much complaining if this was how Obsidian chose to implement them.
  6. God, I've played Baldur's gate 1 and 2 several times and you know I have no recollection of them at all - must be old age catching up with me!
  7. There is hope for all Paladin supporters - @Obsidian just said 'he likes Paladins' on the kickstarter comments page. Ok, he might also like long walks on the beach, cats and marshmallows.................but I'm choosing to interpret it as an indication of a possible pro-paladin stance.
  8. Ok, maybe my brain isn't working after all the marshmallow excitement but what is the 'Flaming Fist' and how do we crush them!
  9. Voted - I support both Paladins and Bards for PE...........but mostly Paladins
  10. My two cents is why not? Paladins are a great class if you like to roleplay and Bards (although personally I absolutely suck at them - never made a good one yet) similarly have great potential for interesting backstories and characters. Depending on funding I'd love to see them both included in the game (I'd go for Paladin first - did I mention I'm total crap with bards) and as not much has been mentioned about subclasses yet I don't think there's any reason to think that they are completely off the table.
  11. Wow, those pictures are amazing! I haven't heard of the artist but then again I don't follow fantasy art much but his work is really impressive.
  12. Thanks Justin, that was a lovely way to spend time over breakfast. I thought your piece 'long winter' was beautiful and very atmospheric and I also really liked 'Assault', it felt like a pulse was racing all the through it. Strangely enough, I seem to spend an awful lot of time going through game music these days because I've got 2 figure skaters in the family and they're always on the look out for short snippets of orchestral music to skate to and not many people utilise game music in this way, which is a shame because often it is ideal for the purpose. Anyway, I'm adding you to my list of composers to look for. Thanks again.
  13. I like mini games and I like fishing mini games. So yeah fishing sounds fun to me.
  14. unequipable item...the backstory goes that Eadir's father was an animal tamer and his dying wish (after he was brutally mauled by a dire charmed lion) was that Eadir always go into battle with it and never let anyone else use it for any reason whatsoever. Is his backstory posted somewhere? I would love to read it. Ummm, I think he was joking.
  15. I would like whips to be included. Eadir has one and I want it!
  16. Come on if your going for names, where's Patrick Stewart? He should voice everyone always, including the women!
  17. I think it is an interesting idea and I'm not sure that it wouldn't be feasible in some way. I think you'd have to resolve the power struggle early on and then proceed as party leader but it could open up a nice avenue for conflict and companion interaction and I don't think it's been done before. I'd play.
  18. I'd like romances if the companions have fleshed out, independant characters. I really don't want a Skyrim marriage thing, I found that completely pointless. I also agree that romances should be 100% optional content but still give you insight into the NPC's personality, backstory etc. I'd be disappointed if they aren't included as I really enjoy the character interaction side of RPGs.
  19. It's spelled "Obsidian Order" so what's your problem exactly? He/she's pointing out the missing i in 'Obsidan Order' in the above post. Ok so just about everyone beat me to it....damn you all and your quick typing fingers!
  20. I will smash a few skulls in favour of your first option, but my heart tells me that the second option is the way to go. I think it is more about them expressing their appreciation to us then us deciding how we should be appreciated. We're both Aussies so delinquency is in our genes!
  21. No, I want to be a broken down group of ne'er do wells, drinking, boasting and generally being unrespectable....maybe the relic of a once proud Order. But really I think we should leave it up to Obsidian and not place any expectations upon them in this.
  22. I'm with Wolfenbarg. I think that the partial voicing of NPCs is probably optimum, we get the sense of character and emotion that a good voice actor brings to the work and the additional dialogue options that are possible with a text based system.
  23. That is so cool and it means the Order has raised at least an additional $1200 for Project Eternity. We officially ROCK!
  24. I prefer a regular person caught up in events myself. I'm a bit over the whole 'child of a god' thing, which isn't to say that I didn't enjoy those storylines but I feel it's just a bit overdone at this point.
