  1. Did you somehow miss that he was talking to Obsidian's token black guy when he asked that question? That made it even worse. :D That's projection, I find children to be awesomely not racist, not going to call the little guy a racist. Of course I found it funny that he was black as well, the same way I find the characters in Archer funny, inappropriately funny. That air ship episode, with the guy in the turban, so funny.
  2. From what I've heard Amazon or PayPal takes 5%, so that's for everyone, and KickStarter takes 5%, but that's justified considering what they do, and they do a pretty good job. If a small company had to host that many hits like at the end of a $4m KickStarter there would be problems.
  3. It wasn't IRL, calm down. At best it's obnoxious to a shy or sexually repressed person. Impolite, rude. Also it's context sensitive, you'd have to be sexually repressed to a harmful degree to consider asking someone to come closer because they look fine as "never okay". This isn't Tehran or Salt Lake CIty. Convenient of you to cut the part of my post that said context does matter. I'm sorry, I thought when you wrote "That is never okay" you meant "That is never okay". And since you started a separate paragraph, I thought in the context you meant "that is never okay in real life", since when you wrote "context matters" it was referring to an unmoderated internet stream.
  4. Cats are terrible pets, but excellent killing machines.

  6. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Do another one? Nyes, nyes, nyes.
  7. My favourite prejudice was when the little kid Aiden was asking questions of one of the developers. Aiden: Where are you from? Developer: New York. Aiden: Are you a bank robber? You're never going to be president with that kind of attitude little buddy, people from New York aren't that bad.
  8. I just feel sorry for Adam Brennecke, he's so innocent looking, he shouldn't be exposed to that. Adam's pretty young, we try not to sexualize him. Those people coming from outside the backer community, such a shame. Come closer to the camera black shirt guy, nyes, nyes?
  9. Valve does excellent developer commentary in Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, Episode One, Episode 2, and Portal 2 but especially the original Portal that has been transcribed. You activate it, and then at certain points the designer, artist, or voice actor will describe their part in its creation. It's the gaming equivalent of a commentary audio track on a DVD or Blu-Ray.
  10. You can't apologise for other people. Yeah, the leching was pathetic, and there was quite a bit of racism which was abhorrent. Stop misusing the concept of misogyny.
  11. I think they did knock up screenshots, concept art, and the stretch goal meters during the KickStarter. Yeah, informal pre-production lore stuff probably has been happening for a long while, with MCA and Sawyer not having an opportunity to use the ideas they were coming up with, and TIm Cain probably dreams game design and mechanics. Because they can do what they want, it's going to take a lot less pre-production time than the other games they've made.
  12. My favourite model is killings mobs gives loot, and tiny xp, and most xp comes from quests. That also makes it way easier to balance for less lethal play styles.
  13. I will be more happy with long term support, patches that improve the engine, fix bugs, and rebalance.
  14. I want a cat voiced by Keith David, but only one line, and that line is "meoooooow", said sarcastically.
  15. No, it certainly doesn't need it, other games don't have scaling and aren't linear at all.
  16. I'd counter that with a lot of RTS and FPS games do this feature badly, and it's not necessarily to do with what you write about, but what you have to put on top of it to make the experience informative and usable for the player.
  17. It's possible, a lot of FPS and RTS games have this functionally, but it's not simple to implement, and has less utility or demand in RPG games.
  18. It probably jumped up another 20k+ in the 10+ minutes I was typing my post. Is there a new paypal backer amount? The one I have is 106,024. You won't be able to take minutes from now on Doesn't say who it was, but it's from Obsidian's KickStarter account.
  19. Bit of a disappointing non-update, especially for those outside the US.
  20. Windows 8 is going to have touchscreen support, so I don't see it as such a waste of time. Besides, if they are going to use Unity 3D, a port to Android or iPad should be quite easy and it could be expected. Windows 8 is meant for tablets, they've made great efforts with the UI, shunning the standard mouse driven interface, but that doesn't mean people are going to use it. They'll either turn metro off, stick with Windows 7, or switch to OSX or Ubuntu. The thing is Android tablets and iPad's don't have the power to run PC games, it's not going to be easy to port, there's going to be quite a lot of work, even just to switch the interface from mouse+kb to multi-touch. Also why would anyone want to play with multi-touch over mouse+kb? It's a bit like playing FPS on a gamepad, it's rather stupid considering they have to add auto-aim and slow enemies down, perhaps if you can't afford a gaming PC over a console for half the price then it makes more sense. What kind of rebalancing will the game need to support this new interface?
  21. With video content it's much less important than with static images, as you can't focus on details anyways. Also, I think large-screen TV's nowadays have specialized hardware technology that performs much better upscaling than a software implementation running on a PC could handle. Anyhow, I don't consider this issue very important for PE. Yes, the Infinity Engine games look either small or a very slightly blurry on the hardware commonly used a decade later, but they're still perfectly playable. If the same will hold true for PE a decade after its release, I'll be happy. Edit: If they keep their graphics assets around and not loose them like a certain other company, they can always make an updated re-release a decade later. No need to spend any kickstarter money on it now. You're right, that's why I added the example of photos, I could also add that when you pause video so it's only a frame, it doesn't look worse than a SDTV when compared to an upscaled HDTV. You definitely don't want the problems with aspect and UI that we had with IE and other old games when using a modern computer. Another problem is cut scenes when they're video, for some reason maintaining compatibility with these seems particularly hard to do.
  22. Touch screen support would be a waste of time if they're not planning to port to iOS or Android, and at this time they aren't. People have been asking for multi-screen support, no answers yet.
