  1. Our hometown Seattle Sounders became the first MLS team to win the CCL Championship, beating Liga MX side Pumas UNAM with a 5-2 aggregate. In so doing they set a CCL attendance record with 68,741 in attendance at Lumen field. I know it's not much by European standards, but it's still something for us. It's also an indication that the MLS team salaries are becoming competitive with the Liga MX teams, at least compared to where they were ten years ago. It should be interesting to see how well the revamped Leagues Cup goes in 2023. Leagues Cup
  2. It's in Russia's interest to separate the US from the other members of NATO, so there is probably an element of psyops in the communications.
  3. I don't know about legitimately, but certainly there's no insurmountable obstacle to it being overturned legally.
  4. You're... full of it, I'd say.
  5. The issue with abortion will probably always be contentious because both sides make valid points. To me it's a technological problem; abortion couldn't happen without the use of tools. I'm hoping that some day it will have a technological solution, although what form that will take I'm not sure. A system to hold a fetus in stasis prior to implanting in a willing mother? Microbots to block sperm entry into the egg? Perhaps we should have a program to study the possibilities?
  6. I believe it's called "homework".
  7. It happened to the USA with Pearl Harbor; prior to that a significant number of Americans wanted no part in the conflict. Afterwards...
  8. Ukraine is a resource-rich country, so I expect there will be rebuilding efforts. It's not in the same boat as, say, Syria.
  9. Yes, exactly. The goal is to make it too painful for Russia to continue their invasion. Why should we handicap Ukraine when Russia is bombing their cities into rubble?
  10. The US military budget is $813 billion, so at the moment this is just a minor (4%) budget surge. It's costing Russia a lot more to maintain this offensive.
  11. That artillery battle hasn't been all one-sided, and the Ukrainian side is growing increasingly deadly with Western aid. U.S. HIMARS Rocket Artillery Going To Ukraine Would Be A Game Changer
  12. This was the first draft since 2000 where only one QB was taken in the first two rounds. No explanation has been given.
  13. Finished Persephone Station by Stina Leight. It was mostly okay; a space opera with an LGBTQ+ cast. Checked most of the usual SJW boxes. Still kind of weird getting used to a character using a 'them' pronoun. The most relatable character was actually the cyborg. Here's a review: 'Persephone Station' Aims For The Stars — And Almost Makes It
  14. There's evidence that the war is starting to push back into Russia now. As one sows... Fire at Russian military site near Ukraine injures one
  15. They do seem to have some good drafts... then go on the field, trip, and fall on their face. Their last playoff appearance was 2010.
  16. My cynical side makes me wonder if we should be supplying RU-486 for the rape victims. I know it's a horrible thought.
  17. The first round had the lowest TV viewership rating since 2016. The main reason being that eight teams had traded away their first round picks, and most of those were in large markets. I only glanced at a team fan web site a few times and didn't bother watching the TV show.
