unequipable item...the backstory goes that Eadir's father was an animal tamer and his dying wish (after he was brutally mauled by a dire charmed lion) was that Eadir always go into battle with it and never let anyone else use it for any reason whatsoever. Is his backstory posted somewhere? I would love to read it.

I am for an increase in experience due to higher difficulties only because getting actual items or content that are not attainable in lower difficulties is NOT what I want to see in this game. Consider this, Project Eternity is no where near an action RPG like lets say Borderlands or Diablo/Torchlight. What do these games have in common? They are Loot Driven games with simple plots that won't give your head a doozy if you seek something complicated with several large twists and turns that are not cliche. The higher difficulty modes will give you greater chances of finding insanely powerful/awesome/ridiculous gear, it IS the incentive for THOSE games to keep playing because the game is well... primarly loot driven. Project Eternity will have much more emphasis on the plot than these games, do you think the devs would want to encourage a fast run through the game's main plot just so you could unlock harder modes to attain that certain piece of gear that spawns on a loot table ONLY on that hard mode? All content in the game should be accessible on the first run, otherwise I feel it cheapens the experience of playing the game, knowing that there is something significant you can't reach in your first playthrough.

While the idea itself does indeed sound very tantalizing, it sounds like something that would be hard to use outside of very situational situations. Perhaps if the game supported something equivalent to a Knowledge Arcana check, or perhaps a Knowledge Religion check from D&D it could be something used in an out of combat scenario as that check rather than a separate spell?

I'd love to see the "basic" temporary enchantment type of spells to use on weapons, though perhaps flavored to sound better in the spell descriptions than their basic utilitarian needs. Examples: "Imbue Flame" or perhaps "Imbue the Fire" or maybe "Frost Sheen" as examples of names. Essentially they would work kind of like the spells from Neverwinter Nights. Add a few d6 worth of damage to strikes for "rounds per level" or whatever balanced timing agent is used for Project Eternity. Spells like this would make spell casters that prefer close range combat more versatile and more or less viable against creature types that have elemental weaknesses/vulnerabilities. I am not only saying this because one of my own original characters is in fact a warrior that likes to imbue his sword with elemental magic >.> I just think it is something very useful and provides options to many types of characters.

Insectoids and those Alien creatures from which pictures have been posted look too non human to be relatable. The creators of the mass effect franchise did the right thing in making the flying jelly fish and the quadrupedal monotone speakers with large noses unplayable even though they brought interesting dialogue. But think of it this way guys, if the proposed Alien like playable character doesn't have the same number of arms and legs, heads and relative chest type, it will pull funds away from other parts of the game, perhaps the plot or combat mechanics, for the effort of creating armor/weapon pieces that are compatible with this race. Everything in the second poll except for the Insectoids and probably the shorter folk will be able to follow the same armor/weaponry conventions and would thus probably be a lot cheaper to fund. Most of these other races in the second poll are more than just a color pallete swap. Wouldn't you guys be satisfied if the beastly races/bearmen/scaled/minotaurish creatures, has decidedly inhuman facial features or had additions to them such as claws/tails/fur and/or scales instead of just the head of a creature on a color swapped human's body?

Great Update! I may be interested in these masochist like modes, but I like the way races are being handled right now. In my opinion... it would be better to reveal what exactly the 2 unamed additional races are until after the kick starter ends. Because if those two races turn out to be something that doesn't satisfy a large number of backers, be they too generic or not what they specifically wanted, I'm worried that pledges could in fact begin dropping.

Nice Update! Does this mean that there won't be any hope for voicework in the other translations? Is the Digital only Tier without the second copy that came with the physical copy tier + a digital version with it?

"Standard" may have been the wrong word. However, they're a common enough enemy type in D&D that they made their way into both Baldur's Gate II and Neverwinter Nights 2, they're a Druid kit, an enemy type and player race in World of Warcraft, have made 2 separate appearances in Elder Scrolls games, and are a major facet of World of Darkness, which then saw an appearance in in Bloodlines, if not Redemption (I haven't made an in-depth effort at Redemption). And beyond RPGs, they have a massive cultural impact including in modern fiction, being part of two popular fantasy novel franchises that then were made into movie franchises in the past 10 years, as well as yet another movie franchise not directly originating in other media. They're not precisely an honest attempt at original creativity in a fantastic context, or even part of the shallow end of exposure for unoriginal creation, at this point in time. Tieflings/Aasimar/Godlike have less exposure than they. From a view point encompassing all of modern popular culture, I will have to agree with you on that one, however, from the standpoint of RPGs and table top roleplaying Tieflings/Aasimar/Godlikes have had much more exposure as playable PC races/protagonist assisting NPCs/Characters allied with protagonists than lycanthropes in the golden ages of the 1990s to like around 2004 ish when more hard core RPG games were more popular before they kind of fell off the face of the earth. If we look at what we know of the Lore of Project Eternity thus far, it seems far more likely they will put in several similar groups of god like or god touched beings as a new race rather than something that looks even remotely anthropomorphic like lets say a centaur. Personally I favor the look/physical description of anthromorphs in a fantasy setting mainly because they are exotic and distinctly NOT human looking, yet they are (as depicted in games, and popular epic fantasy novels [excluding modern fantasy from this argument since all modern fantasy plots involving anything anthromorph related seems sexual in nature >.>]) bipedal and can be flavored to support co existing with other bipedal races [al la elder scrolls and guild wars].

I hope not. 3 standard and 1 D&D expy already, how many races are left? Don't need any more from the standard list. Lycanthropic races are hardly standard, the only reason why they are used in World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2 was because they were NOT the standard type of Tolkien type of races seen in most western fantasy type of worlds/novels. Khajiits from the Eldar Scrolls are an anomoly in itself as the race of cat like people pretty much appeared in one of the earliest TES games with a very bizarre history combined with an improbable culture pairing. I for one would support an anthropomorphic race as long as it was flavored to be something more like Guild Wars rather than something from actual Lycanthropic origins. By flavored to be something more like Guild Wars, I don't mean a very strong industrious race that loves war, guns, and more war, I mean something that doesn't follow the norm. Centaurs sound interesting, but creating art assets to accommodate their body type, weaponry, and even coding what armors they can in fact use just sounds needlessly tedious. Planar Races though are very common in a lot of table top Role Playing Game scenarios. However, I feel like now would be a good time to remind everyone that while we in these forums may be an active "voice" of those that are interested in the game/are backers/ are future buyers, we shouldn't hold Obsidian up to our demands to add or exclude content based off of our personal preferences. Ultimately this is their world we are trying our darnedest to influence.

Elemental Races are done a lot, Tolkien Races are done a lot, Godly Assimar type beings which are pretty much depicted in idealized human like forms, are done frequently. Anthropomorphic races are done the least amongst the more common groups. Just putting it all out there.... Not to mention Insectoids >.>

To Be Quite Honest, The Surge of Political and Celebrity Support for the LGBT Community Is Nothing Short of Disgusting. Personally I Don't Have A Problem With LGBT People As I Have More Than A Few Gay Friends, But The Media Is Quite Literally Shoving Down Ideas That Not Being or Very Openly Supportive Of LGBT LifeStyles Is A Hate Crime. Religious Values That Have Held Together North America and the Westernized Civilization In The Past Are Pretty Much Being Put in the Archaic Bin At The Department Store. People Are Free To Believe In What They Want To Believe In, But Please, If Something of a Hot Topic Like This is Being Added For The Sake of Avoiding Angry Phone Calls From LGBT Media Activists, Please Refrain From Doing So. I Want to be presented with a story free of the political turmoil and strife we are forced to experience in day to day life here in the real world. I want to be amazed, Dazzled, presented with challenges both intellectual and moral. I want to create a character I can grow to love and respect. What I don't Want is a Major Character/Companion Hitting on me on every turn of the conversation just because it is apparently the stereotype for that sort of Gay Person. The Bard in Dragon Age Origins was done fine, she wasn't open about it until you got to know her and got her to trust you through your varius adventures. The Elf Assasin guy on the other hand..... but this is besides the point, If LGBT interest have to be absolutely added to this game, Treat Them AND "Normal" people with RESPECT.
