Sensuki's Suggestions #004: Area Map Functions (with video)
AdaMusic replied to Sensuki's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
The fog of war is really important. It gives a much much better feeling of exploration. Why explore if you know where everything is located? -
Skill bar suggestion - make it more like NWN
AdaMusic replied to Aramintai's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I like the current GUI better. For me it gives more immersion. -
So how much does the beta add-on cost?

The glove cursor pointer - thoughts?
AdaMusic replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I think all the mouse cursors look perfect. I can't imagine better mouse cursors and if they would change them it would probably be for worse. -
Does combat need to be slowed down?
AdaMusic replied to Tartantyco's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
The speed seems fine but I have only watched streams. I'm going to try to get into the beta so I can try it out too. -
3D player characters and NPCs don't pop enough!
AdaMusic replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
I feel the exact opposite when watching streams: that they pop out too much. -
Hey. I only gave 1$ at the early days of the Kickstarter fundraiser (another account). I wonder, how do I buy in into the beta now? I see I can pledge 35$ to get the game but it doesn't say anything about the beta if I do so. I feel like it is rather unclear, which might hurt the amount of pledges you receive. So what do I do to get into the beta?

I am not playing but I have watched lots of streams. Biggest plusses: + The game looks gorgeous: the backgrounds, houses, nature, props like stones, GUI, etc. Amazing artwork. All artwork is perfect except the character and enemy models. These models and their textures could use a little bit of work. I think they should look more gritty or more suiting for the rest of the world. Now they look just a tiny bit cartoonish/colorful compared to the rest of the world. + The music and ambient sounds are soo good. Spot on! + Most of the dialogues seem really well written. + The lore looks more interesting "in game" than I thought it would. Biggest minuses: - Pathfinding and loading times seem odd. - Character and enemy models look a tiny bit too cartoonish. Make them more gritty to suit the rest of world! - I dislike that during combat in the demo that you did during gamescom that there are these "swing/attack loading bars". In Infinity games these "bars" were "invisible" (i.e. didnt exist). I really think that was much more immersive. I don't think it looks hard to figure out what is going on in combat. Looking at this thread there should be some kind of option to disable/enable this kind of help. At the streams I've been watching this has been turned off (to my relief). Sorry for my language. Main language isn't english.

Dialogue Poll
AdaMusic replied to Domigorgon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I like that idea. Like following: 1. Dismantle the NPC with your spell of dismantle weapon [43-67% chance of success] 2. .... 3. .... -
That is original concept art for Project Eternity. That looks awful and not something from Infinity Engine. I agree. It looks way too inspired by current game standard. Almost look abit like Fable (?) having kids with Diablo 3. Not that it is bad art, but it is really bad art for a hardcore RPG such as Project Eternity. I want it to feel heavier.. like Diablo 1/2, Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale or Morrowind. Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Diablo 3 all look way too sassy for me to take it seriously. Take a look at real armor.. it does not look like that concept art. That concept art is way better. Actually that is the perfect example of a wizard or mage.

Dialogue Poll

Then play the game, restrict your actions to your arbitrary scale of choice, and have fun! The beauty of freedom is that you can you're perfectly free to give that freedom up! But as long as the freedom is there, everyone choose their restrictions personally. Why must your choice of restrictions restrict everyone else? Enjoy your character however you want! And everyone else can do the same. I disagree sooo hard. This freedom you're talking about ruins soo many games. Just think about World of Warcraft or Skyrim for an example. Both these games have quest tracking, fast travel (Skyrim has worse fast travel), bugs that make you able to kite an enemy for eternity making you able to kill w/e. All these things, no matter if they are "freedom" or not, tends to ruin immersion and a good game. I don't care if I don't have to use these things, but I bloody will if I can even if I hate them. Why do you think games such as DayZ are popular? Because of it being hardcore, not letting you have any magical freedom that would not exist in the real world. Yea it is an fantasy game, but it does bloody not sound realistic with this freedom you are talking about. It ruins immersion as hell. -
Evil PC Options
AdaMusic replied to duskwind's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Why can't you play a maniac, like in RPGs such as Vampire: The Masquerade? It is hell of fun and I bet same amount of people love playing mad evil as the amount of people who love playing good as a saint. Why do you think Dungeon Keeper 2 was so popular? Why always? Doesn't seem very logical. Sometimes being evil pays off, even in real life. Why do you think there are millionaires and billionaires? Not saying they are evil, but most of them definatley did something out of own interest and ended up having **** loads of money without any definite "backlash". -

I always play the evil dude when I can. Dungeon Keeper 2 <3. Anyway, I think Baldur's Gate does this brilliantly. You can play evil if you want. The story is not about saving some ****ty kingdom I don't care **** about (as it is in Dragon Age). I want to be able to make my own moral decisions who to save or not. Maybe I hate humans. So maybe I don't care about saving the human race in some crappy RPG. My point is, I really hope that Obsidian makes a main quest that is really about something you'd care about no matter what moral or religious beliefs you have. Of course you can have a kingdom in peril, but instead of saving it, maybe I want to conquer it? And to take it even further, I really enjoy having the choice of going for this cartoonish evil if I am punished for it. Maybe I decide to blow up a city courthouse. Maybe the guards find out it was me. Maybe I get killed for it. Even though my character dies it was a choice and it was darn funny having the choice. Just having the choice tickles my RPG heart. -
Wynne and Flemeth were the most boring characters in Dragon Age. Morrigan was fun... but otherwise the game was really lacking in that department. However, as thread creator stated, KotOR 2 has some amazing female characters. Baldur's Gate 2 also have amazing female characters. Anyway, would definatley not look at Dragon Age.. the characters there are hidious compared to the classics.

Sex and Romance Poll
AdaMusic replied to Troller's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Well.. if noone have sex, how should the human race survive? I don't really care.. sometimes I like romance in games. Makes it more believeable if the relationship between the characters is such. Don't really care for sex in a game though. Mabe just a dark screen for 500 ms and then some baloons popping out or w/e. -
Darn, I had hoped I accomplished an understanding. That the core concern was enemies having difficulty or ease beyond justification, making the setting appear silly. Are sickly beggars a challenge in Baldur's Gate? Certainly not. Unfortunately, supposed common city guards in Amn are. But that's scaling game design scaling everything. Sure, they probably didn't want you to burn the city because you aren't low level anymore, but that's not reason to make everything in the city a high level opponent. A better option would be to add high level oponents to places of interest (such as important magic shops) and make the player suffer his low reputation (if all he does is pillaging without care and no PR work). So while this shows that scaling game design isn't abolished just by rules-based game design, its also clear that the latter is a good first step to keep writers and encounter designers from causing the former without justification. I totally agree with you, and the thread creator. I also have a feeling Tale misunderstood the thread.. what the thread is about however implies hard and easy enemies. A very good counter example to Baldur's Gate magnicificent "game system" (in lack of better words) are The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim and Oblivion. These games have horrible enemy scaling, even to an extent where the game is unplayable. But worst of all is that it is terribly unlogical. At level 1 you are able to beat 7-8 guards without problem. Even without any gear (apart from a weapon). While you might have, depending on your build, have huge problems with the same guards at level 20. This is a good example of a worst case gameplay system.
