  1. Well darn. How about a fighter then? I rather like the pollaxes though.. and firearms. Definitely don't want to not use a warbow if the game has firearms. So, how crippling is it to spend two talents to have two weapon sets. Do you get like.. 5 or 10 talents throughout the game? And if a fighter wants to be effective with 2-hander weapon, is it a good idea to go with light or heavy armor?
  2. Think I'll finally start playing sometime after 2.0. How badly would I be gimping myself if I went with the said weapons with a rogue? Or fighter? 2 weapon categories need 2 talents? All rogue suggestions seem to be for dual wielding 2 light weapons or going ranged. Also sounds like fighter builds are for heavy armor + big shield, stand around getting hit but not doing anything. Also how useful is armor actually? Is wearing a brigandine going to be of more use or harm? I mean, if damage reduction is like 5 points, do the critters hit for 8 or 76 points?
  3. Any ETA on 2.0? Haven't even managed to install the game yet and I think I'd like it much better with party AI.
  4. Yeah, noticed there was a mail in my box from them, the box should have arrived over a month ago.
  5. Got the game disk DVD today but have not heard a peep about the box set itself. Wasn't it supposed to be the other way around? The dvd case, btw, looks much fancier than expected.
  6. Well... it'd be a MOD. So we'd all have an option to install or not. I wouldn't. Except if a lot of folks would tell it's awesomely well done, then I probably would.
  7. Kind of maybe. Real happy to see the game released and to be part of the bunch that made it possible. But I'm not in any hurry to start playing. Two things that bugged the hell out of me in NWN2, enough to make combat a chore, not something I get a kick out of. - Lacking combat animations, where actions apparently happen, but the animation doesn't show it. - Poor party AI, it was terribly bad, maybe the most complained bit about NWN2, but almost never terrible enough to enable puppet mode. Both features making a triumphant comeback in PoE. So I don't expect to enjoy the combat bits. In a combat heavy game. I'll play it through at some point for the story, on easy. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised. But not in the next few months, patch it up good for me first.
  8. Just a quick glance through surroundings, combine any two suitable names. Like.. Sanford Lipton... or Xylene Grundig.
  9. I'll just quickly add that if one misreads the topics as "respect", then all the hell no! negativity can be real puzzling at first.
  10. At the moment I wouldn't pledge. After getting around to play, remains to be seen. Assuming I like PoE, I'd be vaguely disappointed the second one also needs kickstarting, but would pledge. something, not to the same level as PoE1, but enough to get the game at least.
  11. Uah, ended too soon! Can't wait to see if the kickstarter is successful or not!
  12. I imagine it's too late to change now but frankly I think abilities per encounter could be replaced with a cool down for the same effect. If I have an ability that I can only use once per battle, and there's a couple fights spread out on a map, what counts as a battle? As soon as all enemies in an area are dead? 5 seconds after? If I run into another encounter while the combat state is on then I don't get to use that ability again, and I have no way of knowing when the arbitrary combat state is about to end. Well yeah. But then you get a choir of MMO Mechanic! Burn with fire! Burn! RAH RAH RAH! And then you get one guy telling you it wasnt so in BG2 so it MUST NOT BE! And then the discussion is already beyond help...
  13. At least in Icewind Dale 2, summons vanish in a puff of green smoke.
  14. 10 parts, 2nd one out, 4 year gap between parts... uhh... Maybe I'll grab them all when it's finished.
  15. First, I'd like to answer the OP question with; Oh yes it does. Definitely does. But then, no, a more realistic game is not automatically the better game. Definitely not. For example, a game where you hop around from one floating platform to another and jump on turtles to make them poop diamonds... .. is not realistic. But can be a great game. Third. Realism is not binary, on or off. There are levels, and levels within levels. Unreal setting can be accepted in a realistic game, if people in game behave realistically... as one imagines they'd behave in a setting like that. It's not like you either accept fighting banana monsters and hopping laser-toasters, or just go directly to a farmers life simulation with toilet cleaning quests. A middle ground exists. Some just prefer a bit more to one side.
  16. Waiting for the next installment of "Song of Ice and Fire" kind of dulls the sense of urgency. I thought it was going to be a trilogy...
  17. Totally fine with either option. Yeah, maybe someone thought to gift the extra digital copy and will now be in a bind of having paid but not getting to play. But... that might be a hypothetical problem, did someone?
  18. Que? Mage Armour is awesome.. until you get those nifty AC Bracers that make no sense in BG2. As for Arcane Veil, it more than doubles your Deflection. That's pretty big. Well.. maybe I didn't play as well as you guys. Always had my mages tucked back. But I seem to recall always having abundance of AC bracelets at mid levels, while at early game spending a spell slot on something that doesn't debilitate or hurt the enemies seemed a waste.
  19. In case someone here is interested enough to pledge 5 bucks. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1105588087/fancy-pincushions-a-study-of-the-lethality-of-wara "This study is a series of experiments to see if arrows from 1337-1453 can penetrate certain types of armor from the same era." Ok, the guy is not a professional spell checker, but seems he knows his bows.
  20. I've played RPG's where quests break down if you do stuff in wrong order, or do something unexpected. (Fallout 2, Kotor 2). The kind of stuff an extra thousand playthroughs might have spotted. Play mechanics I'd expect them to get sorted out by themselves. It's the difference between trying out a new mechanic in vertical slice, which takes an hour, vs playing the full game with different characters, making different choices, for a thousand times, which takes one hundred thousand hours.
  21. To derail the thread further. To say DRM is about fighting piracy, that it's futile, is missing what it's all about. DRM isn't about piracy, it's about clamping down on used games trade, and it's highly successful. Register a game, as you must to play, and it's tied to you by chains of pure drm. Game shops are dying left and right, a good deal of business of which publishers didn't get a cut is soon history. In this respect, gog is just about as bad as Steam. Though in case gog, kids, filthy little thieves as they are, can just slip the installer into an USB stick and share the fun with friends. Which scares the hell out of many a company man. Aannd.. I don't know, might be a percentage that will share with friends, that wouldn't just grab a torrent. Dunno. Anyhoo. Gog.
  22. Going a bit better than I , being a pessimist, assumed. At the current rate, they'll hit 1M even without the surge of the last days. Which means there'll probably be that a one more (reachable) goal.
  23. Have to say, I'm aware I'm quite disproportionally bothered by stuff like that. Every ooh, I'm mortally wounded, hear my last words grates me to no end. Oh, noes, it's just that "special kind" of stab wound a potion of heal doesn't cure. So you wanted a potion of heal and a periapt of wound closure.. just so you can die comfy? What if I slap in greater restoration, full heal, raise dead and read a scroll of resurrection? Nope, still all broken inside. Sniff. Died.
  24. Though mage armor pretty much lasted all day... and was still almost worthless. Arcane veil is something that supposedly justifies carrying firearms, specifically to counter it. OMG. the wizard is using his magiks to make himself as invulnerable as someone wearing low end medium armor!! Quickly, bring out the firearms!
  25. To be fair. I sort of assumed being at "early access beta key" backer tier meant getting early access to the beta of the game, not getting early access to a beta of a demo. I'm not miffed myself, it seems I wont manage to try the demo before the game is out anyway. But I can see how someone would be upset with the "oh, you thought you'd be getting an early access to the game?! We never said it'd be for the game!!"
