I didn't see this one posted. It was one part of a three part question: Question: Could we get clarification on the exp system you guys are thinking about? It implies you won’t give experience for kills how does this work with things like the mega dungeon? I like using non-combat skills to glean an advantage or get something extra out of a situation not to necessarily solve everything. I feel like if i know I’m going to get the same reward for not fighting if there is a situation where i can avoid combat i probably will and it’s not because combat isn't my preferred play style but because fighting in that instance would feel kind of pointless. J. E. Sawyer: We plan to grant XP for exploration-based quests and objectives, so if there's something like the mega-dungeon that's focused on moving from level to level toward a goal, we will award portions of XP for achieving those goals. Most players will likely use combat to get to that point, but that doesn't need to be the only solution. Well, to me, that's disappointing. I was left with the impression in an earlier thread that there would be other ways to accumulate experience. So, now I have to re-evaluate this whole thing one more time. It sure won't feel like an I.E. game with this feature (at least not to me). Oh well . . .

Collector's Book
SqueakyCat replied to jfdsfj89s7's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
They no longer have a softcover. By eliminating it, they only have to do a single printing which saves them money for the project. These books are expensive to produce which is why they're at the $250+ level. -
Which tier did you choose?
SqueakyCat replied to Althernai's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Enough that the thieving credit card company will be charging interest on it for at least the next six months. I wanted to support in as big a way as I possibly could so I pledged two tiers. -
Collector's Book
SqueakyCat replied to jfdsfj89s7's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It has been confirmed that they will not be offerring the 'Collector's Book' as an addon. This statement was made this evening by Adam (if I remember correctly). So, it's going to be your last chance to get one. Go for it - - it's worth it. Creator Obsidian Entertainment @Chad Smith The collector's book will not be offered as an add-on. Sorry. For a simple answer: Strategy Guide = Tips and Tricks on how to play the game. Collector's Book = Art, Concepts, Making Of/Behind the Scenes, Monster Info, additional lore, and info on companions/characters Almanac = All about the World, History and Lore of Project Eternity So, it's going to be your last chance to get one. Go for it - - it's worth it. -
They actually did at one point - - I think over in the 'Comments' section on the Kickstarter page. One dev commented on how he wished his name was shorter because there are so many to sign, and they would tackle them by doing so many per day. Also, you can 'Ask a Question' at the bottom of the Kickstarter page and one of the devs will respond. Hope that helps.

Juneau Congratulations on your recent wedding and much happiness! I meant to include that but hit the 'post' button too quickly. -
Last minute pledge question.
SqueakyCat replied to Juneau's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Hi Juneau! At $140, you get: Collector’s Box Version of Project Eternity, DRM free for Windows, Mac, or Linux, with DVD and printed manual. Cloth Map of the World. Project Eternity Kickstarter Backer Cloth Patch. Project Eternity Mouse Pad. Early Access Beta Key. Project Eternity T-Shirt. Special Thanks in-game credits. Thank you postcard from the development team. VIP Forum Badge. Digital Strategy Guide. Digital Novella by Chris Avellone. Kickstarter Exclusive In-Game Pet. Digital Campaign Almanac. Digital High-Res Game Map. Digital High-Res Concept Art Pieces. Wallpapers for Multiple Monitors. Project Eternity Themed Ringtones. Digital Downloadable Soundtrack in MP3 and FLAC. Digital Collector’s Book. Digital Downloadable Copy of Project Eternity, DRM free for Windows, Mac, or Linux. Cooking with Tim - An RPG Themed Cookbook PDF Kickstarter only in-game achievement and item. That would get you the physical copy plus one digital copy of the game. To get the expansion, you would need to add $40 (for 2 copies). You would also need to add $20 for shipping. The total would be $200 (if my math is correct). You would select the $140 tier when you contribute, but make the pledge amount $200. After the Kickstarter closes, you will get an e-mail asking how you want to distribute the additional $40 (for the expansions). Hope that helps and I understood your question correctly. -
The best solution, in my opinion, is to offer the game and 'add-ons' (which they have already established and may be adding to in the next couple of days). Once you remove the exclusive items from tiers (which they should), there's little point to the tier system. The digital tiers could remain as they do not involve shipping and handling.
-
It would depend on what items were made available from the higher tiers. Signed Items should remain exclusive for 'fairness' and because the devs are already looking at signing hundreds of boxes and books as it stands now - - to make that thousands were be unreasonable. I really hope that make an official statement on this before the Kickstarter ends so everyone can properly evaluate where they stand with their pledge.
-
The Holidays are coming - shedding a few pounds in advance could be beneficial. Isn't $250 looking good?

@kensei All the money collected goes to the goals, although I don't think they've discussed the money that will come in after the Kickstarter closes (it would be reasonable to assume it would). There will be no more stretch goals according to Feargus (see the Comment section of the Kickstarter page). It's great of you to pledge at $500. Have you played the old I.E. games? The screenshot is very reminescent of the old games (with a fresh new look). Edit - Handled by Tale. My typing skills must be deteriorating.

@Cantousent I cancelled all my pre-orders and made a personal commitment to not order any more games in the next year to cover my pledge. I have a large backlog to get through anyway (of course, I still want to go back and replay BG series again and IWD). I just 'restructured' my entertainment allowance. I have confidence Obz will produce something worthy of the initial outlay of cash.

it would need to be the digital expansion though, wouldn't it? They aren't going to want to ship to everyone a second time. And you can do that with a digital expansion, just add 20 dollars but don't change your reward tier. At the end you'll get the option of an add-on expansion for that 20 dollars. Ogrezilla - Yeah, they haven't even mentioned making a physical copy of the expansion available now or in the future.
-
I'm going with the silent approach. Get the credit card bill, pay it, file it, and find some way to explain in 2014.

I an unaware that they have announced a key chain, but if they have (or plan to) the same principle would apply.
