  1. There's a couple of instances in combat where Brandon tries to move a character past two units grouped together. The character runs into the units and runs on the spot due to the pathfinding being able to detect unobstructed navmesh between the two characters, but the gap not being wide enough to fit the character. The game's pathfinding obviously does not have a check for width of navmesh being obstructed by other units in the game, or just width of navmesh in general (eg. if there was a 1 pixel gap of navmesh that went through a fence, characters may try to walk through it and run on the spot). Pretty easy fix, just need to either make units try to walk around by default IF the units are visible (preferred), or walk around once they run into the gap.
  2. They look better than the Titan Quest models from 2006, and the NWN2 PC models (although some of the NWN2 cNPC design was okay).
  3. 3D models are being used (for inventory and CC particularly) because it's cheaper. This project does not have enough money or 2D artists to be able to do paperdolls. This has also been known info since 2012.
  4. I hope they fixed the pathfinding issues with combat before the beta goes live, but we'll see.
  5. I thought I saw a point lighting option in graphics during the Dealspwn preview

  10. I'm gonna play the game and then see what I'd like to be able to have, and add it as a suggestion.

  12. Just for accuracy. George Ziets did some high-level work on the narrative, area concepts and character conceps among other things (such as pantheons) in the pre-production phase. Contrary to popular belief, Chris Avellone has a fairly small role on this project. He's writing two companions and he's helped with "narrative production" providing guidelines and critiques for the story and the companion design documents. Apparently he isn't doing any other dialogue but his companions. He's also doing a novella. The ball is largely in Eric Fenstermaker, Carrie Patel and Matt McLean's court.
  13. The upper cammera being centered on the speaking character and the POV panning/jolting between speakers is part of the IE feel. The height of it is fine, it still gives a good view of the scene. One thing that was not demonstrated is scrolling up in the dialogue window - hopefully that's in.
  14. Ah, yes, a bit darker/lighter version of brown compared to the brown that you normally get for NPCs talking... It stands out a bit, but the contrast is still minimal. I think that's largely dependent on your monitor. If you're using a 6-bit TN LCD panel then yeah, the colors will probably look very similar because those screens can only display 262,000 colors natively (and fake the rest using dithering), whereas PLS, IPS and IGZO panels (as well as CRTs) can all do 8-bit colors at least (16.7 million colors). I'm using a 22" CRT at the moment because I've been playing the vanilla IE games recently and the conversation colors are all pretty much perfect for a full color palette. Obsidian seem to all use 24" Dell IPS screens at work. The brown chosen for NPC names is very readable. Even if they don't use clothing colors they should have some different colors to distinguish between different types of NPCs. I think Icewind Dale 2 used a light blue for NPCs and a different color for PC units (something like that anyway).
  15. any updates on these now that it's an open beta?
  16. UI and Art Style: IWD1 & 2 Gameplay: BG2 mix of dialogue, exploration and combat. Encounters - don't know. Writing/Story: PS:T with a more BG style scope
  17. The dialogue window is perfect, other than the fact that clothing colors aren't used for NPC names. It's nice and big, and the text is of a good size.
  18. Yes it probably includes interior areas. I'm not so sure Obsidian is as big on having as many smaller interiors as the IE games did. I'm not 100% sure about "child areas" like the insides of houses and stuff, but I'd say they are probably counted as areas themselves.
  19. Yeah if there's multiple people on the same date, it's easy for someone to opt out of a reward. If it's only one person that guesses the date, the reward should be theirs as no one else guessed it. It is then up to them to decide what to do with it. If they want to give it away or something, that's up to them.
