  1. ALL of them. When the game releases, there will be food stockpiles by the computer, bottled water, and astronaut undies. It's going to be one big orgy of character building and simultaneous playthroughs. I shall wallow in my own filth and play PoE until my eyes bleed. I foresee divorce on the horizon...
  2. I'm not sure ME3's multiplayer is the best example to use as evidence that including multiplayer functionality won't affect single player.
  3. I will not succumb. Nope. Won't. Even though my pledge level includes a beta access key. Not gonna happen. No way. I mean it. Really...
  4. Have to agree with this. Personally, I don't understand why there seems to be such disdain for DA:O here. I love the game and have played through it several times. Does it have its flaws? Most assuredly, and I'm well aware of them. I still think it's a great game. PoE is likely going to be more my cup of tea though, since my favorite games of all time are the IE games. Still, I have to think there's a significant portion of the DA:O fan base that would enjoy PoE as well. But as I said before, I don't see why there should be a focus on a specific group of gamers for marketing. Market to the game playing public at large. Forget trying to snare a specific audience that focuses on a different style/genre of game. Cast a wide net, catch more fish IMO.
  5. I find it amusing how you brush off all of BioWare's rather large fanbase because of 'no waifus' (as if the majority of the fanbase is only interested in that), and CDProject's because the majority are assumedly action game fans (where does this assumption come from?) Yet you think the MOBA fans will flock to PoE in numbers? I personally fail to see the connection between this game and MOBAs. I hate to say it, but if Obsidian/Paradox want to grab some decent numbers for the game when it's released, then all they need is decent exposure on Steam. There's a huge captive audience there and plenty of them will be interested in this game. *edit* What I mean is they probably don't need to target a specific section of the game-playing audience such as MOBA players, COD players, BioWare fans, etc.
  6. You may be interested in looking into GOG Galaxy, which is something GOG is coming out with to address much of this. Not sure of all the details yet, but they plan on coming out with Galaxy as a similar and DRM-free option to Steam's services. As for DRM-free or Steam, aside from the philosophical considerations, the biggest draw for me is I have a couple rigs that are not connected to the internet. DRM-free games from GOG can be played on them without hassle. Steam games... not so much.
  7. There's no further info in that thread either. *edit* The Expansion reward was included at the $165 tier and above during the Kickstarter campaign.
  8. Pretty much all been said, but I'll reiterate (and maybe illuminate further). The expansion was, indeed, included in some of the pledge tiers, so it was planned all along that there would be an expansion. None of the funds collected for PoE will be used for it. The funding for the expansion will be from profits from the sale of PoE (and possibly a kickstarter?) I wouldn't worry about them 'cutting content' specifically to save for the expansion. If you're going to start worrying about that, then you may as well worry about them cutting content for a sequel, for a companion game, etc.
  9. I'll throw in my vote here as well (although I believe, as noted, that the devs said they'd provide this kind of detail in the tool tips). I hate not knowing exactly what a skill/talent/bonus/increase is doing in a game.
  10. Nice work. I may use Groot for mine. Screw the lore, Groot rules.:D
  11. I think you misunderstood. He said he would be buying the game anyway when it's released, but instead he decided to back it now, since it saves a few bucks. At least, that's how I understand it.
  12. Agree with every one of your points. I waffled about backing it at all, but finally decided I'd toss the minimum pledge that would give me the game. I count it as a 'throwaway bet' though and will be pleasantly surprised not only if they deliver the game, but if it's even close to being what they say it will be.
  13. You guys taking potshots at Sui Generis should at least read about the game. It's not 'swinging at air'. Of course, that's what's shown on the video, but it's demonstrating the combat mechanic of using weapons. The idea they have behind it is that unlike many other games, your weapon swings will actually have weight behind them. Your character can overswing and go off balance, you need to orient the character properly in order to hit, you can't make a crapton of uber swings in a short period of time, etc. Now, whether or not they'll be able to deliver on what they say that want to (not only the combat mechanics, but they also want to create a far different type of RPG with regards to reactivity of the world and blah blah blah). I was intrigued enough to toss them a minimal pledge, since if they can deliver on what they say they want to, this could be a helluva game. Bit this is the only Kickstarted project where I thought there was a good chance my pledge would get me nothing. Still, if they can pull it off, it should be more than worth the money. I'd recommend taking a look at what they want to achieve with the combat mechanics before waving it away as nothing new/special/innovative.
  14. I backed Sui Generis at a minimal level to get the game when/if it's released because it looks interesting. But why would we be talking about it here? As noted, it has nothing to do with PoE or Obsidian.
  15. I pay for my software, so I guess I'm not using my computer the way 'billions' of others do. If your statement is even remotely accurate, that's just a sad comment on humanity. Even sadder is what that statement reveals about your own character.
  16. I can't say for certain how this will work, but it would make no sense for you to get both keys. What I imagine will happen is you'll have a button like described in the update where you can generate a key for steam or GOG. If you choose to generate for GOG, then the Steam key will no longer be available and vise versa.
  17. Of course, there are those of us that prefer RTwP that are quite relieved that at least one of our anticipated releases (D:OS, Torment, PoE) didn't decide to go turn-based. Don't get me wrong, I like turn-based as well, but prefer RTwP, so PoE not going TB is a great thing, IMO.
  18. Pretty much my reaction as well. I told myself I wasn't going to watch it (didn't want any spoilers at all, even minor, but then couldn't help myself) I really like the looks of a lot of the elements in the game, love the nod to BG/IWD in the color choices at character creation, the portraits etc. I also really like the way they play out the scripted events with non-colored drawings like the between-chapters in IWD. Had to keep from drooling while watching the gameplay. Copy/pasted icons I don't mind. They were good icons then, they'll be good enough now. I'm sure there will be minor nitpicks when I finally get to play it, but I suspect they'll be just that: minor.
  19. I don't know. On the one hand, I enjoyed some subclasses, but on the other I think there comes a point where the amount of 'subs' starts to get a little ridiculous. I believe the system in PoE is going to have the ability to build your character using feats/talents that will give you the chance to kind of create your own subclass in the class you've chosen to play. I like this idea better than something more strict and walled in. I like a party, but I also like a protagonist in the sense that I create the party leader (or what i consider the leader). I don't, however, particularly enjoy a system like BG where if the character I create goes down in battle then it's game over. If the whole party is wiped, well that's a different story. NPC interactions: I don't want to see convo scripts fire that just choose the nearest party character to interact with the NPC (unless it makes sense for the particular situation). I want to see some choice in who deals with whom, but I believe this is the way Obs is designing it. Scripted events: I'm with you there. I HATE when the game takes over, makes my party walk into an obvious trap for the convo with Mr. Big Bad and then has them standing in a completely vulnerable spot when the battle starts. DON'T take control of my party just for the cheesy purpose of making them vulnerable. Linearity: PoE is supposedly going to be much more open than IWD2.
  20. I'll have to play it first to see what I feel is missing or would make it more enjoyable.
  21. No specific ritual for me, although I'll probably end up in a similar vein to the Andromeda galaxy up there in that I'll listen to my wife go "Blah blah blah" while reading the manual, then creating about six thousand characters before finally starting a run (and then restarting about three hundred times).
  22. While I can see what you're saying, I don't think I necessarily agree that the 'missed' revenue would be 'monumental'. Sure, there are likely some that want Beta access but are unwilling (or unable) to pledge the Beta access level. But I think if Beta access is really that important to someone, they'd probably go to that level if they can afford it. If not, then yes, there's always the 25 dollar add-on. Hell, I pledged over 500 bucks and don't want Beta access. Don't get me wrong, I think beta testing is an excellent idea - and applaud those that participate in it, but I don't want a single playing moment of the game spoiled for me before I get my hands on the final release and start my first run through it.
