Lets face it, a good 90% of men are incredibly brainless.... and if they didn't start off that way, the lower a females neckline, the more brainless a guy gets. however, even with that in consideration, yes there are many who want to recreate some character that they read or watched or something - though I will admit that I have rarely run into those playing pnp, and when I did, those characters only lasted a game or two, and then they moved on to a different character, because their characters didn't work well with the group. ---- ahhhhhhhh but what wonderful canon fodder. ^_^ One nice thing about Doom, is that you really don't care about your character, just what is going on in front of you and if you can kill them before they get you. The thing that I didn't like about Torment as far as characters, is that yes, I couldn't create my own character... but then I don't tend to play males very often, so that was rather strange for me also. hubby just pointed out to me that there are two kinds of people in the world, those who are as stupid as he is, and those who are too stupid to realize they are as stupid as he is. :D

There is still speculation as to wether the game will be announced before, during or after E3. --- and although Feargus is going to be there, as he has a lecture he is part of, Obsidian isn't saying a word about if they will be there or not. But my guess is that even if the company has a presence there, it will be as part of the floor show for whoever the producing company is.

I think it was danien who posted something about two years ago (on the old BIS boards) about female game designers. - and the fact that right now females have a good shot of getting in to many companies, there is also help for females who want to get training (Though I don't remember the specifics). I think in many professions (especially where computers are a serious part) the work environment tends to be male heavy - but other than those guys who think that women are useless except to cook dinner, they are usually more than willing to have women in their company. - especially if we prove that we actually can do the work, and they won't loose thier jobs over it. :D

The people that I know who have alienware are overjoyous about their computers. - of course the one that I would get, would cost me about 9grand... so that isn't in this years budget. - need a digital camera first. :D (and for that I'm looking at 3grand)

could be, but FO:BOS didn't have anything to do with BIS, that entire game was in Interplay - thbomk. So, I still think it was Lionheart... though there were a lot of rumors flying about.

anyone remember when Feargus forgot the codename of "Quincy" (I think it was) and started calling it "Fallout Fantasy" -- ya never know, the same thing could happen again. :D
-
I think that has been used in a few games. - Mostly because I remember it, but I havne't played KOTOR, so it can't be from that game.
-
I've added www.benbova.net to my list.... how could the webmaster think anyone was going to read through all that??
-
Hopefully they will as the game gets farther in production.

Ok, just to defend myself, the text wasn't white when I posted this, more like grey... have they changed it recently or have I've gone insane.. the current one works nice enough for me to be happy. and thankts for making my thread into a big one, albeit off-topic... uh huh, sure, use that as your defense. :D yes, I have noticed some changes too. I rather liked the grey text... maybe that will be an option down the road.

yep, that one is pretty impressive. -- I think most of those are flash, but could be wrong.

I knew there was something I was missing... thanks, Dwarf!

What is necessary to become a game designer?
Magena replied to Diogo Ribeiro's topic in Developers' Corner
One thing that you really need is to be able to learn new technology quickly, and to have a good imagination. :D Technology changes rather quickly, and often what is "in" now won't be in a few years. - so it is best to learn a few different programs/languages/whatnot. -
Killzig, you didn't like the first one, why would you want a LH2?
-
Thanks, Balth. Yep, that is what I was talking about. Ones that, regardless of content, make you think that the person needs to leave websites to professionals. - though I know over the years, I have seen corporate sites where I felt that the company needed to pay money to get a REAL webmaster/web designer. IF anyone has more ideas on the worse they have seen please let me know. :D

D&D: Does Obsidian 'ave an interest?
Magena replied to Sargallath Abraxium's topic in Obsidian General
I can't imagine being in the CRPG field, and not doing a D&D game... or at least that kind of a game. -
New Project Naming Format

I think that Guam considers themself the 51st state. --- and of course we can to into territories after we finish with the order of incorporated states. -
Some of you may have seen this on Missy's boards, but I thought I would ask for suggestions here too... In my dreamweaver class, the teacher asked all of us to find really bad websites (he showed us "Sun God" and someone has already brought in "mews news" - so both are out, in addition I can't use any on the list of the worst websites, as he has already seen them) --- soooooooo I need everyones help to try and find a truly hideous website -- this is asthetically, not the actual content so goatse isn't what I'm looking for. any ideas? from Mistresslair we did find a good one about dragonballZ, and there was one about dogs, but I can't bring that on up here, so I have no idea... need to wait til I'm at school I think. again, any ideas?

As I'm sure most of you are aware, I'm on dialup.... well, tonight it actually rained in San Diego. - we got over a half inch in a matter of hours. This might not seem like much to most people, but here it means we get to turn the water off around the house for a few days. YEAH!!! BUT... and this is where the dialup part comes in. my connection is only at 4.8k tonight. I mean HOW can a dialup be that sloooooooooooooooowwwwwwwww??

If it wasn't for the fact that the versions of the bible aren't always the same (probably something to do with copyright) and that I know (or at least have been told) that King James had it in for the homosexuals, and that was a bias when the King James version was written, then I might join in on the idea that it is a bad thing.... but I think that people being happy no matter what sexual orientation is more important, and I think that has more to do with what God was aiming for than only being able to propogate. (and no that doesn't mean that I think that people who are happy killing should be allowed to kill to their hearts content)

I think that TB is much better suited for multiplayer than for single player. I don't know if it would even be possible to have the two different sets in each of the types of game. As far as story, and linear vs non-linear. If there is a good story base, and the reason that it is seen as non-linear is that you didn't have to do something in exactly the same order (ie BG/2 vs IWD/2) Then there is a lot of merit to the idea, but there has to be a GOOD story there for there to be replayability no matter how linear the events are which get you from point A to point B.

I haven't had so many pm's at a given time that I looked for the option, but on most boards, you can sort through your mail, doing a "next" or "last" to go from mail to mail, and on those days where I haven't been watching who sent me messages, but just looking at the messages, I've run across things I didn't want... ok, so those are usually email and have to do with breast enlargement or viagra... but still, the point is that there have been times when having the ability to not only ignore posts, but pm's would be a nice thing indeed. HOWEVER, I think the idea of being able to ignore a mod by the flip of a switch is a bad thing. - I don't know if I ever made it on someones ignore, and I wouldn't doubt that it has happened, but often users will get more upset by the fact that a mod didn't even take the time to send them so much as a pm saying "be nice - this warning is official" or some such, than to just suddenly be banned because they had racked up too many warnings. Believe me, I've seen users who get upity because they were banned, but they had never read their pm's (and on the Iply and BIS boards I could tell) or their pm box was overflowing so all I/we got back was a notice saying that the user had too many pm's... which is when I tend to resort to email. - though even those get passed by, because so many people get so much junk mail.
-
Even better! They have an email address. I would prefer that anyway, its hard to archive PM's and the inbox is very small. wow!! I took a totally different understanding to what Karzak was saying there -- I thought that he was saying that he prefers email to pm's because he can archive it in case an issue comes up later, and pm's can't be archived (well, not as easily). With that thought, I agree. I prefer emails to pms because I can keep the email longer, and I don't have to worry quite as much about getting rid of old emails to make room for new ones - at which point everything is lost for good (cause I'm too lazy to save each pm individually, truth be told). --- however, from the last few comments, I don't think that is what was originally meant.

isn't that the point of these games though????
