Walkthrough Trailer #2
Deraldin replied to Matthew Rorie's topic in Alpha Protocol: General Discussion
HD Version The lumberjack beard seems to be pretty popular. -
As an archer with boots of speed, I'd rather not put myself into an even smaller area if I don't have to. The two thieves I killed in straight up melee, while the sword using fighter I kept dancing just out of his reach and peppering him with arrows till he went down. The second fighter and I had an archers duel. He totally would have creamed me in a straight up fight, but I have a crap load of minor healing potions. Two sets of 5 allowed me to take him out while he used two extra healing potions before he ran out. I swear the die roller hated me against him. I looked through the log and only once out of every four shots did he roll something lower than 15 which is total bull**** since I was getting results like 4,4,6,2. Even with a +4 mod to my rolls and a THACO of 9, those weren't even close to hitting him. I've got SCS installed for the AI updates, but I left out the improved end of chapter battles. I've never actually finished BG1 before because of technical issues so I'm hoping to actually make it through the entire thing this time. And no cheating! First time I played I was still in my "cheat at everything first time though" phase and ctrl+y was like the best thing ever. I've felt guilty even using ctrl-j to save time by jumping across city maps on this run, but it's much more enjoyable to actually beat those tough encounters after a couple reloads.

Slowly working my way through the city of Baldur's Gate. I've done about half the quests in the city so far and I'm currently taking on the group on the fifth floor of the Iron Throne. It's supposed to be an optional fight, but I've never actually beat them before. I've managed to take out 4 of the 6 guys so far, but the last two are the clerics that never seem to suffer spell casting failure no matter how many times I hit them. It's even more annoying because I can't seem to lure them downstairs one at a time. Every time I try, the both come after me and that flamestrike wand the one has really, really freakin' hurts. The ring of free action that the rogue dropped has been very helpful though. It cancels out the boots of speed, but speed doesn't help when you fail your save on a hold spell. Currently they are standing by the north staircase so I could send Imoen up the south staircase and sneak past them to loot the rest of the tower, but I would really prefer to actually kill them. They give good experience after all.

What makes you think that each mission only takes 10 minutes?

I'd make you guys pay for this injustice, but Salamando is pleased that he is taking over the forums, one poster at a time. All will know his greatness! -

Hey, don't steal my signature! Screw you! You can have any of the other sprites, but Salamando is mine! -

These are too awesome and I want to be part of the in crowd. Salamando will have to be happy at the bottom of my posts. -
I was disappointed by Bioshock. I couldn't bring myself to play more than three hours in. There was just nothing there that seemed interesting enough to keep going. My second run of BG1 is going much smoother than my first run did. I'm running with a two person party with a Ranger and Imoen. There have been only a very few encounters which have given me much trouble, but I have used a fair bit of hit and run tactics. If you hide then sneak up on someone and shoot them from the edge of your sight range, you can almost always duck back under the cover of the fog of war before the enemy will give chase. Sword spiders and Battle Horrors are too smart for this, but it works wonderfully on Ettercaps and Wyverns with their horrible, horrible poisons. One ettercap is easy, two is okay, 3 is doable, but 6 is too many for one character even if they can only hit me on a 20. I couldn't take out the battle horrors in the mines so I led them on a merry little chase through the third level of the mine with my boots of speed and doubled back on them to go kill Davaeorn while they were stuck searching the next level up. Davaeorn would have given me more trouble, but I managed to us the hallways to my advantage to disrupt his fireball castings. I soaked just about every direct damage spell he had except for those fireball with the help of a bunch of healing potions while I filled him full of arrows. Unless you get really lucky, you aren't going to disrupt a magic missle with only 5/2 attacks per round. Currently have somewhere in the low 70k experience range with Imoen having just leveled up and my Ranger due for another 1/2 attack soon. Those Ankhegs just outside the city are a great source of experience with a party, but my two man group just can't deal out the damage fast enough to take on more than one without resting in between. Playing without any clerical healing spells really gives me a new appreciation for divine spell casters. Except for Candlekeep at the start, I don't think I've ever been at full health throughout the entire game so far.

As far as I can tell the links are working. Try going here. The pics will be under Sega Games/Alpha Protocol/Pre-Order Images. If that doesn't work then there must be somethin wrong with your system. Tried that earlier. Sega Games is there. Alpha Protocol is there. Pre-Order Images are not there. Dunno why it doesn't show up. Tried it on the other computer, but no go there either.

Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 Will Not Have LAN Support
Deraldin replied to Magister Lajciak's topic in Computer and Console
Inflection and tone of voice don't exist, but word choice can play a big factor. What does the word outgrew imply to you? You implied that LANs were childish and that people who still enjoy them just haven't grown up yet. High speed internet is great, but it's not the same experience as a LAN, at least not with the high speed connections that we have available here. They both have their pros and cons. -
Your links seem to be broken.

Heh. I'd argue that the gameplay is only as repetitive as you make it in this case. There are two basic ways to go about things, stealth or guns blazing, but you can also combine and the various suit powers can really setup some fun situations. Try setting up a stunt from an action movie. Load a truck with explosive barrels then drive it into a guard post, bailing out at the last second. Make a stealthy entrance into the enemy base from the water. Lots of ways you can go about it. The weapons were definitely pretty meh. I don't remember the names of any of them except the scar which you start with and honestly felt like the best weapon in the game. What difficulty are you playing on? I can't recall anyone except the special guys being hard to kill, but maybe I need to play it again. As for Psycho, sure he may only have one defining character trait, but it's still more than Nomad had.

I can't say that I really remember any of the cutscenes except for the bridge. What do you think is so terrible about the rest of it?

Is there any problem can't be solved with duct tape? -
I see one Ogrillion. I fight. I see two Ogrillions. I think I'm in trouble. I see a dozen Ogrillion/Ogre/Half-Ogres. Run away!

Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 Will Not Have LAN Support
Deraldin replied to Magister Lajciak's topic in Computer and Console
This. People need to whine about more important stuff. See, this attitude pisses me off. You spent most of your time with the campaign. That was the draw for you. That's fine. But because I spent most of my time playing 8 player LAN matches with friends, my opinion and wants are somehow less important than yours? -
I expect to see you doing your part when this game comes out. I want at least 10 flames per day you hear me?

I hate kobolds. So very much...

Did you read the article? From the first paragraph... -
Just restarted BG1 because I didn't like the way my previous game was going. Went with a ranger instead of a cleric this time and it's just myself and Imoen instead of a full party. Walking around without any healing has been interesting so far. Except for the time in Candlekeep I don't think I've ever been fully healed. Can be a little harsh at times. Silke was a pain in the ass until I hit level 3, then I got a couple lucky shots in before she turned invisible. I managed to kill her just after she got a dire charm off on my main character. Imoen took a couple hits before she managed to lose my character by ducking in a house until the charm wore off. I've been kicking around Beregost just kicking the crap out of Hobgoblins and Gibberlings, running away from Assassins and Ogrillions that seem to be able to one shot me with 30 damage hits every time and Hobgoblin Elites and those damn poison arrows! Currently level 3 ranger and level 4 thief.

It's been awhile since I last played this section, but does the party still teleport during the conversation at the end of the second level? The first time I went through I got slaughtered. Second time I barricaded doorways and bombarded each room with AoE spells. A couple fireballs might not kill everyone, but it would usually take them down to the point where one hit would finish them off.

I got to play AP yesterday :-)

That's what Josh said about the Aliens RPG. And then it was cancelled. Not once did Jean use the word "tyte" or "sweet" of the normal or super variety.
