Yeah, there are several fights I'm not looking forward to. I had enough trouble with the Iron Throne without the extra invisble thieves and the bastard with the arrows of detonation in the undercity killed me over and over until I said SCREW YOU and fought back with 4 arrow of detonation archers of my own. I learned last time through that consumables are key in BG1 because even small bonuses can make a huge difference at low levels. I haven't hesitated to use my healing potions mid fight so far and a couple charges from Imoen's wand of missles. Xzar doesn't have any disabling spells right now. Larloch's Minor Drain and Chill Touch suck. On the other hand, with the huge number of wolves around, I'm getting some good use out of charm animal. Wolves, unstoppable killing machines and now once per day I can have one of them on my side. Ahahaha! I thought about running away from Tarnesh, but I wanted the experience. After killing him and seeing he was only worth 130ish XP, I felt robbed. I've never done Durlag's Tower before. I did once attempt to explore the outside area of that map, but I got my butt kicked a never bother to go back.

There is an autosave after the initial Imoen conversation in BG2, but I don't think there is one in BG1. If there is, it didn't fire for me. I kept Candlekeep in because I actually kinda like Candlekeep, it gets me back into the game after a long break, but once is definitely enough for each run. Insane SCS takes some getting used to. Insane alone takes some getting used to. I'm doing a lot of reloading right now because with the exception of exploiting AI by kiting enemies, there isn't much you can do to prevent character deaths due to one shots. The huge swarm of gibberlings right after Elminster killed me a couple times through sheer number of attacks resulting in eventual crits before I could kill them all. Hopefully it'll be a little better once I get another level in and those one shots from gibberlings and xvarts stop happening. I'm also playing with Hard Times so I haven't been able to afford more than studded leather for any of my characters so far. I should go find Ajantis and steal his armour. Tarnash is evil. Mage pre-buffs installed. Trying to burn through those mirror images and his armour spell when he disables 3/4 party members with sleep/horror is tough. Took me about 8 tries to get through that fight without massive casualties. Used Xzar to get off a quick spell before soaking up the sleep spell to protect my useful party members.

I got my Baldur's Gate install all modded up last night. Tig inspired me with his Insane SCS run so I figured I'd give it a shot. Sounded like fun! Set myself up with a ranger main character for the awesome BG1 missile weapons. Candlekeep was the same as always so off we go out into the wilds! Hey look! A wolf! Let's kill it! *Wolf one shots main character* And that's when I realized I forgot to save at any point between character creation and leaving Candlekeep.

1. What mods are you using for BG1? Last time I went through it (first full completion woo!) I think the extent of my mod usage was a banter pack and widescreen patch. 2. I hate you. I've tried to avoid it for the past couple weeks since you mentioned going through with SCS, but dammit, it's still installed and it'll keep gnawing away at me until I give it a proper play through.

It's going to be Rae. He's already gearing up for it and Trudeau simply isn't ready. He hasn't done enough. He needs to do something to prove that he isn't just coasting on his father's name. Supposedly he did that to some extent in his own riding, but he's got a long way to go in the rest of the country.

Exact opposite for me. Having regular start stop points means I get suckered into the Civilization mindset with "just one more mission" or whatever. If the game doesn't have those points, it's easier to just quit wherever.

How long did it take you? I'm at 3 hours right now and feel like I'm quite far as opposed to others who said it took them 9 hours to complete the SP. Going by the achievement times it took me 5.5 hours which seems fairly accurate.

I don't have a problem with the default font size when scaling up the resolution. By the time the font becomes too small for me, everything else is smaller than I would like as well. I found that 1680x1050 was a good stopping point for me that kept everything at a good size while making good use of the screen real estate on my 24".

My recollection of AD&D2E rules isn't fantastic, but I think the answer as to the important stuff is no. Some items (e.g., Wands of Magic Missile) are kosher for thieves, but I think that using mage scrolls and fancier magic items was a high-level ability, well outside BG1's range. Not sure about Bards, though-- they get some spell powers, and might even get to read scrolls, but I don't know about the better wands and such. Never really played with one. Bards can use wands.

He will always be Megabyte to me. And Sargy: This one seems to pop up at least once every 18-22 months. Usually in October for some reason.

But the writing, man! It's just so bad, man, so bad. But, man, half of those mans are only in the subtitles, man.

Dropping in on the citadel gave the Reapers access to the relay network controls so they can turn things on and off as they wish, isolating systems from each other. It also gave them access to any government information that was stored on the citadel, perhaps locations of colonies or other settlements which could tell them what areas they had to cleanse.

DirectX 9 only is a shame. Levels are indeed smaller, but they are still pretty open so you don't have to tackle them in the same way all the time. The bigger issue is the MAXIMUM HAND HOLDING with the suit constantly telling you blindingly obvious paths or options. Mouse Acceleration and Auto Aim are both off by default I believe. Graphics options in game suck tremendously (Low, Med, High). Real customization is currently only supported by tweaking the config files. There are at least two programs that will automate this for you. I use this one.

I just finished the campaign so I figure I should update this. I managed to pick up 1 more souvenir, 1 more dog tag and 3 more e-mail conversations by the end of the game. The in game time clock tells me that I only spent just over 8 hours during my first run, but that seems a little low. I expect it isn't counting the time from all my failed runs, because I'm pretty sure I've played for more than 8 hours over the last few days. Either way, it's longer than most shooters these days but it doesn't go on so long that you start to wish it would end.

How far are you in it? It get's a bit better once you are in Neverwinter. There is still some herpa derp though, but it does get better. Chapter II (for me) is when it starts to take off and the fun stuff begins. Depending on where he is I might suggest at least playing through the trial. Favourite part of the game by far.

I've been playing on Veteran and have had one vehicle explode on me. It was an APC that was fired on by another APC using the turret mounted rockets. Nothing else has managed to deal enough damage to a vehicle I've used to even make it smoke. Small arms fire seems weaker than I remember it being, but that might just be because I've used fewer light vehicles. Humvees can be taken down with a single grenade. Just for comparison, I'm on level 14 of 19 and the game clock is telling me that I've been playing for just over 6 hours. I haven't exactly stopped to explore any of the levels. I only have 3 souvenirs, 1 dog tag, 1 vehicle key and 1 e-mail conversation.

Dang, someone told me they were wearing different clothes and I gladly accepted it, as that meant a nice happy ending. Now my world is a darker place, thanks LC That's because they are wearing different clothes. They are very similar though. They are also supposedly played by a different set of actors in the ending scene. The kids wear subtly different clothes in the initial scene, the beach dream scene and in the ending scene.

Obsidian in Quarterfinals of Escapist's March Mayhem
Deraldin replied to C2B's topic in Obsidian General
Even more amazing is the number of people along the way that have been complimenting Alpha Protocol. It's reputation isn't completely shot! -
What? How would that work against the Reapers?

Aw, we <3 you too.

Didn't mean to imply that he was hit from behind. You're not getting the point I'm trying to make. Of course the turnstile makes a difference. I'm saying that people who argue that this hit doesn't deserve a suspension because if it was anywhere else it would have been a nothing play are wrong. It doesn't matter what happens if Chara rubs out Pacioretty on the other side of the ice because that's not what happened. You don't (not) punish people based on what could have happened. You make your decision based on what did happen. Once again: "If you cause a player to be injured, then you have to be responsible for the play that you're involved in, if there's any carelessness or recklessness in it." Are you saying that you don't think there was any carelessness or recklessness on the part of Chara in that play? When the puck was a good 35 feet away from the play?

The location makes a difference because if the turnstile wasn't there he would have been simply ridden into the boards, probably wouldn't have even been a penalty called on the play. But the glass was there. Why does it matter what happens if the hit is in a different location? If you hit someone from behind in open ice you get a penalty. You hit someone from behind along the boards you . "If you cause a player to be injured, then you have to be responsible for the play that you're involved in, if there's any carelessness or recklessness in it." -Colin Campbell, after suspending Ovechkin last year. I phrased my last post poorly. I should have said, why does it matter where the hit was not, rather than where it was.
