  1. It seems suited to a handheld format in some respects but not in others. Games tend to take too long for one thing. The DS is idealy suited though with the split screen. If games took about 5 hours I'd manage to finish one a week. Certainly be fun though, especially if they tap into the WiFi the way Mario Kart does. I suppose the idea is that because the game is the turn based you clock in a few turns at random intervals. A couple of turns on the train to work. Ten turns during lunch hour. Fifty during boring board meeting. I can picture the slogans: Crack cocaine for the busy addict on the go. EDIT: Did I write crack cocaine? I meant Civilization DS. EDIT2: Kudos to Metadigital.
  2. That is going to do wonders for office productivity. Instead of calling in sick to play civ, people will go to work to play civ.
  3. Here's a little tip: Everyone lives in an area full of idiots. They're everywhere. And they all think the idiots are everyone else(even I think that..... )
  4. No, I don't think so. Thieves don't normally go on a buying spree of "sale" items. They steal what they want whether it's being offered at a discount or full retail, because stealing is what thieves do. Free is the ultimate discount, after all. I'm not saying that it would eliminate piracy. It' just that I think some people turn to piracy because they just can't afford the games, and if the games were considerably cheaper these people would buy them instead pirating them. Does anyone know what percentage of a games price goes to the developer?
  5. Here's a thought: what if a big name developer offered a game for a much lower price only over the internet (without a publisher). Do you people think the amount of piracy for this game would be a lot less?
  6. I should start by saying that I have no idea about what to do to solve piracy. I think if the prices of games were lower it would help a bit but I don't even know if it's feasible to lower the prices at all. Anyway, I think that piracy is one of the biggest problems with video gaming. It affects the amount of money that get to developers. It makes investment in the gaming industry seem like an iffy idea. It's plain stealing. So, does anyone have any ideas on what can be done about piracy? P.S.: What do Obsidian's devs think of piracy?
  7. I suspect that if you were to count piracy, the PC market would not be quite as small as it seems to be compared to the console market.
  8. This thread makes me cry. I've been a civ addict for the past 13 years (I just counted). I played Civ1 regularly for about 4 or 5 years. I can't afford to buy the game right now, and even if that wasn't true, my computer probably can't handle the game anyway. I visit this thread so that I can imagine how great it would be if I could play Civ4 right now. :'( I need my Civ4 fix. I'm pathetic.
  9. I was talking about the grammar. And making a joke...
  10. I thought the key thing in poetry is that there is no such thing as a key thing in poetry.
  11. Has anyone noticed that the title of this thread is no asking whether you'll buy the game? It's stating everyone will purchase it. Perhaps the thread starter has one of those red light thingies MIB. I will only make a decision when(if?) KOTOR3 comes out.
  12. Saw Maltese Falcon. Great stuff.
  13. Should be: "singular dream engulfs" or "singular dreams engulf" Not entirely sure what you are trying to say with this verse. "its" not "it's" Optimistic. Typo? I haven't spotted anything wrong with the second poem. Interesting poems, if a bit verbose.
  14. The title of this thread just got that awful Kylie Minogue song stuck in my head. HELP!!!!
  15. Mostly platform games: Jet Set Willy Contra Super Metroid And also: Blockout. It's 3d tetris.
  16. The last movie I saw was The Constant Gardener. It's great. It's by Fernando Meirelles, the director of City of God. This guy is turning into one of my favourite directors. Also saw Wallace and Gromit. Great fun.
  17. Just the mention of the words "conspiracy theory" make me cringe. I found the whole story to be conspiracy this and conspiracy that. And I couldn't relate to any of the characters. P.S.:I would give a more elaborate answer, but I have to go. Sorry.
  18. The game is indeed, very well designed and one of the reasons Warren Spector is so well regarded in the industry. However, I have to say I was pretty disappointed by the story. I found it to be pretty superficial and boring. Another thing that annoyed me in the game were the character models. I remember playing NOLF at around the same time and there was a huge difference in quality of the models. Edit: Typos
  19. I can watch two, even three movies without stopping. So one isn't a problem.
  20. This seems to be a similar arrangement as the one between Bethesda and Zenimax. And, as far as I know, Bethesda has complete creative freedom in the making of their games. So this doesn't necessarily have to be a bad thing.
  21. I used to play Super Mario Bros. on my Spectrum. It wasn't like the NES version at all. You could play Mario against Luigi in a PvP game. Edit: LINKY
  22. Umm, I chose that example, because it was a pretty extreme example.
  23. Now, you're assuming I'm a religious guy. I'm not, I just think religion has its uses. Also, I was trying to point out that people are the ones who define what is or isn't valuable. So, for example, getting whipped gives pleasure to some people, hence they pay money for it, and hence it is worth something to them.
