  1. So my kid has had a barely used XBOX ONE for a year and it's the crappiest piece of hardware that I have ever bought. So the advantage of consoles over PC used to be ease of use. Plug and play, put in a game and you are playing. That has certainly been thrown out the window, at least for the XBOX ONE. Endless updates, an absolutely horrible interface, apps, apps, apps. login to a Microsoft account, login to developer specific accounts, limited hard drive space, long loading times. And then you have to pay a monthly fee, just to play games online or even just to speak to other people. It's essentially all the disadvantages of a console and all the disadvantages of a PC rolled into one device, and you have to pay monthly for the extra incovenience.
  2. It's actually somewhat notable the way she lists out a bunch of racist dog-whistles without ever actually mentioning the race of the targets. I guess if one is really naive, it's possible to assume she is just disparaging poor people but, of course, that isn't exactly a positive take on its own either.
  3. "Trump is not a moron. He is however *an enumeration of moronic qualities and/or actions*"
  4. II assume 40% as well, but I don't really know.
  5. I pay about 25% of my income in taxes. About 40% of that goes to healthcare apparently. VAT here is 25%. The point, however, that you seem to be missing is that even when taking taxes into account, people in the developed world pay much less for healthcare than the US.
  6. The discussion is about everything in healthcare. Overall cost, premiums, deductibles, quality and availability of care across the country. The US pays more per capita for healthcare than any other country in the world, and gets worse health outcomes as a result. And while the news articles about ridiculous bills are mostly about outrage clicks, the bills are still an underlying problem that contributes to how much the US overpays for healthcare.
  7. That's a ginormous amount by the standards of any developed nation, except for the US. I assume you pay upwards of 10k a year in premiums, if it is for your family?
  8. How much is your deductible? And how much do you pay for your insurance?
  9. I don't know what you consider expensive, but you should be able to get 32GB for like 130 currency of choice. What do you do that you use so much RAM?
  10. My Ivy Bridge died a death, so I'm now back in the AMD camp: ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 AMD Ryzen 5 3600 G.Skill Ripjaws V - DDR4 - 16 GB ASUS Geforce GTX 980 Ti Crucial MX100 512GB Seagate 1Tb 7200 RPM S-ATA2 32Mb Seagate Barracuda ST4000DM004 - 4 TB Dell U3415W 2 Dualshock 4 gamepads Things have certainly moved a long way: And I'm back on the AMD side of things for the first time after I moved away in 2007:
  11. Well, while Paw Patrol isn't Thomas & Friends or Caillou levels of horrible, it's still pretty bad.
  12. Well, already ordered the following: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 ASRock X570 Phantom Gaming 4 G.Skill Ripjaws V - DDR4 - 16 GB Should work well enough. Thanks for the advice. I already thought about that upgrade thing, but what happens when I plan ahead for upgrading is that I end up not upgrading down the line.
  13. Well, I'm not waiting, as my PC is dead right now. I've done some research since my post and it's looking like a fight between the 3600 and the 10400F. At this point I guess it will depend mostly on price, although I hear the cooler on ryzen CPUs is much better.
  14. My cpu died on me, so I guess it's time for an upgrade. RIP Ivy Bridge. So the question is simple, Ryzen or Intel?
  15. The party of fiscal responsibility and small government is certainly living up to its billing.
  16. Daggerfall Unity is now a very playable thing, so that.
  17. I had no idea the Kurgan was Lex Luthor.
  18. The situation in Sweden seems to be kind of misreported. While they have refrained from declaring national state of emergency, the "recommendations" are still to work remotely if at all possible, to refrain from going out, and generally go for social isolation at all times. And while people haven't been forced to do so, public places are much emptier than usual, and Swedes aren't exactly the most gregarious people in the world, to begin with. The one exception to this are middle schools. Those are being kept open, with which I have to say I don't agree, especially when they have already announced that national exams won't be held, and all schools are already pre-emptively prepared to move to online classes, at any moment. It should be noted as well that people in Sweden are applying for unemployment benefits in record numbers, which of course, implies that plenty of businesses are closing/stopping. My main point of comparison is Portugal, where people are living under state of emergency. However, going by my Facebook feed, where both Portuguese and Swedish images of the streets can be found. there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference between the two in practical terms. Just yesterday there were images of a traffic jam on Lisbon's main bridge, ostensibly because people went out to enjoy the weather. As the best point of comparison there are currently 164 cases in intensive care in Portugal, while there are 306 in Sweden. For myself, I'm on my third week working from home, and I will remain doing that until May at least. The same is true of everyone I know, apart from a couple of nurses and doctors.
  19. Do you have other graphically intensive games you can try? Also, perhaps it would be a good idea to completely remove and cleanup the GPU drivers and reinstalling them.
  20. Not in any way.
  21. There's a kind of employee so terrible that companies will often be better off paying them to stay at home, rather than having them show up for work and screw things up. Perhaps the Trump admin is now these sort of people at very level. so maybe the best thing for the US is to go into a permanent government shutdown, at least until the next election. Anarcho-capitalism for-the-not-really-win-but-at-least-not-wholesale-catastrophe .
