  1. Well, he enjoyed playing it like that a great deal and he was an HL fan. And HL was competent, not brilliant. *pokes bear*
  2. It was a game on Chieftain that I just started to get a quick fix, so that I would work afterwards. That didn't go according to plan. It was really easy and pointless of course, given the very low difficulty. Details: Small Pangaea, Suryavarman II was my Civ, Ragnar declared war on me once, and lost his entire attacking army with that little prank. Cultural victory around 1900. 15000 points. It's really easy to get high points in Civ IV. If I won a similar game in Civ 1, I'd get a Dan Quayle rating.
  3. How big are Obsidian's installations? Also, when will the general public be able to see that movie on Game Informer's page?
  4. All of those character stories you've described are just daytime soap opera quality stories. At best. It's like gamers allow game stories to pass through go and collect 2000$ just because they're game stories. Anyway, I'm not saying that shouldn't enjoy whatever plots they want, or that most writing in other mediums isn't as bad or worse. What I am saying is that these kinds of plots shouldn't be made more of that they actually are, and that gamers shouldn't lower their standards just because everything else is so crappy. A similar thing happened with HL, just because the story wasn't told through the readme as was usual in previous FPSs.
  5. That's because he can run it.
  6. What, VI? I can see how it was much better than the competition at the time in terms of character development, but it was still pretty dire. That "Terra can kill again" bit in particular, still makes want to do bad things to Square's writers. And as for VII, take away the FMVs and what you've got is a big fat zilch. I'd like to see if all those FFVII fans would've cried for Aeris if the whole thing had been done with FFVI's engine.
  7. You talk like the characters in other FF games were interesting.
  8. VIII was the first FF game to try to change the core gameplay of the series in a meaningful way that attempted to deal away with the level up grind. It was also one of the few FF games that actually asked you to think while playing. Many hardcore FF players didn't take well to those changes. The storyline was complete crap of course, but it really wasn't any worse than in the rest of the FFs. The crap writing just shone through more because of the subject matter.
  9. And that's one Civ game done... It's now 2 in the morning.
  10. The stupid pop culture references in F2 were awesome. Awesome I say!
  11. I was specifically referring to the "lying down by default" bit.
  12. Not quite. A creationist is more like the Black Knight from Monty Python and the Holy Grail
  13. I never had that much trouble with the Friendly Arm Inn assassin. Eeven the first I played it, all took was one or perhaps two reloads. It probably helped that my first character was a ranger with high CON, though. Regarding the diagonal movement in BoF, there were a bunch of isometric games in the 80s and early 90s, that did that or at least gave you that control system as an option. Most of these games were not on consoles, though.
  14. Hey walkerguy, what, exactly, are your religious beliefs?
  15. I would win. Enough said. I think it depends on the rules of the game. I think AP has all of the practicing martial artists, not sure how the gun owners are spread out. I also have no idea who would have more people proficient with blades and changes. Alvin would probably lose. And it would be his fault.
  16. I am now playing BTS and it's clearly, everyone's fault but me.
  17. Mr John Bean?
  18. It's instant life destroying addiction that you can carry anywhere with you. If I had a DS, I know I wouldn't buy it.
  19. Patch 1.0006 only has multiplayer fixes. The patch that raised the framerates a lot was 1.0003 or 1.0004, I think.
  20. Actually after Enoch made his other earlier CIV post I installed the game and BTS almost immediately. I then suffered a bout of extreme guilt and responsibility, and uninstalled it about two minutes after starting it up. Maybe I'm getting old.
  21. Must shake urge to install CIV....
  22. Yes, it's quite awesome. It's not very forgiving, tough.
  23. Well, yes but Deus Ex had a bunch of complex game systems, like an inventory, or RPG stats, that stopped players from picking it up and playing right out of the box. NOLF1, on the other hand, while it had more depth than your garden variety FPS, could be played like your average run and gun FPS. In fact, a guy I knew did just that, playing NOLF1 from start to finish as if it was Doom.
  24. What danger?
