I picked up the new Ted Leo and the Pharmacists CD this weekend. So far I'm liking it, except for a few songs, and maybe they'll grow on me. I found one of the tracks online as Salon's "daily download" from March 5. You can download it here. It's called "A Bottle of Buckie" and it's a little rocker with some Irish flavor.

Didn't you give that honor to Low a week ago? Speaking of Bowie and the Arcade Fire, I stumbled across a rather high-quality live set of theirs a week or so ago. In that set, they covered one of my favorite Bowie songs, "Five Years." I was flipping channels the other day and that song was playing. It was a comedy with Cameron Diaz in it... Nope, the Temps are solid... and "Adam Raised a Cain" is one of my favorite early Springsteen tracks. I found an acoustic version on YouTube... I hate it almost as much as the Seeger Sessions version that I won't link, because it's too painful to watch. Why, Bruce, why? Why'd you take the teeth out of one of your best songs? I own Hercules in New York on DVD, the version with Arnold's original non-dubbed vocal track. It's a masterpiece. Also, Commando is the quintessential Arnold movie. It's also the perfect action film.

I saw the Anna/bot thing the other day when I was sent a link to it. It's always interesting to see what's popular in other areas of the globe... as odd as it is, it's not even close to the Brits keeping a stupid frog ringtone at the top of the music charts for like 43 months. Matthew Ryan - Everybody Always Leaves I like the song, so I was pleased to see that I liked the video, too.

I saw Edwards on a speaking tour back when he was running as VP on Kerry's ticket. I don't know if he still uses the "Two Americas" bit, but it makes a lot of sense. I agree with his stance on strengthening the middle class, but what I really like is his universal health care plan (endorsed by Paul Krugman, NY Times columnist and professor of economics at Princeton!). Edwards also is calling for a complete removal of U.S. troops in Iraq within 12-18 months, which might make him popular at home, even if it leaves the Iraqis high and dry. I might support him in the primary if he closes the gap enough to make a win possible.

Heh, pretty soon Newt Gingrich will join the fray, or so I hear. Now he is a thoroughly detestable man. He ran roughshod over Slick Willy for his extramarital activities while conducting his own on the side. I like Barack Obama and John McCain. I've always voted Democrat, so I'll probably vote for their candidate come November, but I wouldn't be too upset if McCain ends up in the Oval Office. I respect him; he's an admirable character. I'm sure Giuliani will be using the "9/11! 9/11! 9/11!" campaign technique, and I really don't think Americans want to hear much more of that right now. Hillary lacks her husband's charisma (does anybody remember his speech at the last Dem convention? He really made Kerry look like a stuffed suit), and she'll have a hard time shaking the "coattail rider" image.

Wasnt Boston heavily into the use of synthesizers? They had keyboards, sure, but Boston was all about the guitars. Their lead guy, Tom Scholz, was such a perfectionist he designed his own line of guitar equipment.

One of my most successful mix CDs, "Classic Rock Drinking Mix," opened up with "Don't Look Back" -- one of my favorite Boston songs. They had a great mix of rawkin' guitars and the kind of vocal harmonies you couldn't make with ProTools. I'll never forget when a complete stranger came up to me at the party and wanted me to burn him an exact copy of that CD. It's nice when someone realizes the care that goes into crafting a superior mix CD.
