  1. Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band - Lost in the Flood From the 1975 Hammersmith Odeon performance. everybody's wrecked on main street from drinking unholy blood
  2. Bummer about your neck, man. My place of employment is expanding, and management bought us all new office chairs. However, most people like their old chairs better. This is a problem, because we weren't allowed to keep our old chairs. See, it looks better for visitors to the office when everybody has the same chair. Uniformity and all that. Now I don't mind the new chair (we're basically trading the comfort of a broken-in chair for better lumbar support), but some of my colleagues absolutely hate it. It will be interesting to see the effect this trivial matter has on "company culture." The company softball team got killed again last night. There wasn't much we could do; the other team was hitting one out of the park almost every inning. Still, it's never fun to get beat 24-6.
  3. Anthrax - Medusa In a bit of a metal mood today.
  4. That reminds me of the last time I was at a Starbucks. The lady in front of me in line ordered something that sounded even longer than what you just rattled off. Then I get up to the counter and order a small coffee. I'm not boring or uncultured; in fact, I like some of those crazy drinks. I just hate paying $5 for coffee when I can get it for free at work or for less than a buck at a gas station. Given, gas station coffee is almost as bad as the dreck they brew at work. But hey, it's the caffeine that matters anyway. I'm occasionally pulling from my water bottle, which I refill all afternoon.
  5. Woo! If more rock bands sounded like this, I'd start listening to the radio again. Those dudes rock! That main riff is buggin' the hell out of me though... did they swipe it from Motley Crue, Judas Priest or Maiden? It sounds so damn familiar... Take No Damage - God and Country I just found out the drummer I used to be in a band with has a new group, and they're putting out a CD. It sounds like some delightfully weird music. I guess I would compare it to the Gorillaz or newer Beck.
  6. I've only known one (natural) redheaded female. Her name was Molly, and yes, she was a little on the crazy side. However, One of my good buddies has red hair, and he's one of the most grounded people I know. Could we hypothesize that the wild and crazy genes inherent in redheads only manifest themselves in members of the fairer sex?
  7. *crosses Gfted1 off the baby sitting list* Fascinating. LOL! Maybe I wasnt clear enough. I didnt mean to pull the nails out at the cuticle, I mean the part that overhangs (that you normally clip) is soft enough to simply tear. That's better. Your original post on the topic was cringe-worthy. Thanks for clarifying; I was thinking you were pretty sadistic for a while there. I still don't think I could tear off part of a baby's fingernail, but I could imagine that once you start dealing with human excrement a few times a day, your perspective changes on many things.
  8. I've always preferred brunettes, but I ended up marrying a blonde. Go figure.
  9. Have you heard the recent Cale/Clapton collaboration "The Road to Escondido?" Pretty good stuff, for a couple of old guys. I do like Clapton, I wouldn't want my previous post to appear blasphemous to the "Clapton is God" crowd. I'd just say that while they call him "Slowhand" you could call Gilbert "Fasthand." Apples and oranges, really. Oh yeah... Son Volt - Mystifies Me
  10. I've been on a big Beatles kick lately, ever since my buddy passed along the live CD on which this song appears: While My Guitar Gently Weeps. It's a all-star Beatles tribute band that features guitar savant Paul Gilbert, Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, and Neil Morse from prog-rockers Spock's Beard gives a damn good Lennon impersonation. Oh, and Gilbert's solo makes Clapton's sound like something Tiny Tim would play on his ukulele.
  11. Coffee. It was pretty bad today, but it's part of the morning routine, so what can you do?
  12. I borrowed The Illusionist from a friend and watched it this weekend. Very, very enjoyable. But then again, Edward Norton is always fun to watch. Giamatti and Jessica Biel were good too.
  13. Congratulations! Will you be getting her a cell phone for her 1st birthday? All her friends will have one...
  14. A good friend of mine is a Browns fan and occasional blogger on the state of the franchise. He agrees with you completely. I have some doubts, though, simply because Cleveland's QBs are all terrible, and they'll probably have an opportunity to take Quinn (or Russell, if Oakland ends up going for CJ). I hope that their management doesn't decide to pass on a QB simply because they think they'll be fired if 2007 goes badly, and they don't want to stake that on a rookie QB. In any case, the worst thing that Cleveland could do is what most mock drafts have them doing-- taking Adrian Peterson. Your buddy's got some good points... and he actually has one of my co-workers on his blogroll. Small world. I agree Peterson isn't a good choice... too many good backs have come out of later rounds. Plus, AP is a big injury risk, and the last thing the Browns need is another top pick who spends more time in the trainer's room than on the field.
  15. Neil Young - Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
  16. I'm not much of a Browns fan, but I do live in Cleveland and watch a lot of football. I think it would be foolish for them to pass up Joe Thomas, the consensus best lineman in the draft, if he's still on the board when they pick. After watching them a bit this season, maybe they should pick o-linemen with their first three picks...
  17. I was listening to Sandanista on the drive to work this morning. The Afghan Whigs - Dark End of the Street
  18. Last three: The Rentals - She Says It's Alright Kevin Devine and the Goddamn Band - Brooklyn Boy Modest Mouse - Missed the Boat
  19. Yeah, Wish You Were Here is a great PF album. The Foo Fighters recorded a pretty good cover of "Have a Cigar" a few years back. Brian May from Queen plays lead guitar. Cracker - St. Cajetan
  20. I still have my '98 Hootie and the Blowfish tour t-shirt. Oh yeah. Hmm... I really should dig out my copy of Abbey Road, too. The Broken West - So It Goes
  21. I've been recuperating all day from one hell of a weekend. The bachelor party I planned for my buddy went well. A total of 12 dudes drove or flew to Chicago, where we participated in some joyous debauchery, soaked up the sun with the bleacher bums at Wrigley Field, and caroused our way through several fine drinking establishments. All in all, we came back plenty of with stories we can't tell. So, "great success!"
  22. Maybe they'll have some Stryper! Voxtrot - Your Biggest Fan
