  1. And who said that camera issues can't be fixed on consoles as well? A forumite? A moderator? A developer? It's important WHO said that. Until a developer says that... it's not true. And if/when a developer says it... what they mean is not that it's not possible, but that they won't be bothered to do it. And as a student pursuing a career in game development... I know it's entirely possible. I've worked in the game industry as a QA tester and apprentice programmer for the past 5 years, so I know what I'm talking about. They can fix the camera for consoles as well. It's as simple as a patch.
  2. In some places naivety is considered a virtue. Not on the internet, naivety is directly linked to being full of "it" on the internet. Which reminds me of a certain quote... "Better to be silent and appear stupid, then open mouth and remove all doubt. "
  3. There are no issues that all the versions don't share, beyond keymapping for PC. In other words, the issues that are present on consoles are also present on PC. PC players are getting keymapping... that's it. I think you are under the wrong impression. After keymapping and platform specific bug fixes, what PC players get, console players get. You're crying about spilled milk and the milk isn't even yours to worry about. Seriously. You're whining about PC players getting a Keymapping patch... Keymapping is something that is supposed to be in EVERY GAME that is released for the PC platform. Don't think I'm trying to undermine you. But instead I'm just pointing out that this "hot fix" doesn't even concern you, as a console player. Any further improvements to the game after this will be across ALL platforms. So relax.
  4. My sentiment exactly. In fact I have no idea what the OP is even talking about. There is plenty of loot in this game. Actually.... there is FAR more loot in this game than other "recent" additions to the dungeon-crawler RPG genre. *cough*DA2*cough*
  5. Shipped != Sold Also most of those units that were "sold" were pre-orders, and of those over 60% were returned to GameStop in that first week. Perhaps you should... visit the DA2 forums on the BioWare Social Network before you further shove-foot-in-mouth. It's obvious now that you don't know what you are talking about.
  6. 1) Seriously, learn to use quote tags. 2) I guess you really don't know.... perhaps you should do some research. DA2's initial reviews were inflated and it was obvious... in fact if you were ever on the BioWare social network this is common knowledge. EA is a very large and powerful company in the industry and they have the ability to... force reviewers and gaming magazines to... inflate the scores and give "nice" reviews. Otherwise the reviewers and gaming magazines can have access cut from certain events that EA holds. So if anyone is a comedian it would be the person who has NO IDEA of how the industry really works behind closed doors. I however have worked in the gaming industry for the last 5 years and have seen a lot of things (shady things) which remind me of the late 80's, early 90's where the gaming industry was full of coke'd up undercutters. Like Nolan Bushnell...
  7. Wrong. People bring up DA2 and all it's failings as a direct COMPARISON to DS3 and all it's strong, well thought-out, and interesting design choices. You see (well YOU don't obviously) DS3 and DA2 are in the same genre. And therefore warrant direct comparisons. Another thing I would like to point out. BioWare/EA BOUGHT the initial high review scores of DA2, while Obsidian are an honest company and take what they get because they earned it. So yeah, smart gamers get a bit pissed when they see this... IGN DA2 - 8.5 DS3 - 7 when DA2 shouldn't have even gotten a 4.5 and DS3 should be an 8
  8. Are there console issues that differ from PC specific issues? I'm pretty sure the camera issues are still prevalent on console if I am not mistaken. (I'm not BTW) That and if they do incorporate New Game+ in an upcoming patch or DLC than console users will get that as well. That and Obsidian is one of the best customer driven developers in the gaming industry. They really do care about their games and their fans, this can't be said for other developers *cough*BioWare*cough*. My point... they won't forget about console users.
  9. Well, in this case, this is just good news. VGchartz is notorious for "under-selling" the numbers. So really we are looking at DS3 doing well in week 1. Not surprising, I just wish the forum community here was a bit more active.
  10. You read somewhere.... Now I don't mean to undermine you at all but, unless it was said by a developer (provided a link to said statement) then you can't believe exactly what you read. While some users have made great guesses in the past, if this was said by a forumite, then it is only that. A guess. I've gone through just about every DS3 developer interview that I can find on the net and I haven't seen a developer comment on a toolkit yet. So I can only assume a forumite said this. So, I still hope for a toolkit. Maybe after they release some DLC....
  11. This isn't so much a thread that is meant to bash DS3 or Obsidian. This is a CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM thread of MINOR issues that bug or irritate you during play. My goal is to present the developers with an organized list of minor issues that players encounter, that detract from gameplay, and as we know "the devil is in the details," so when there are several minor issues in a game that stack up or repeat consistently in a game it can break immersion and lead to gamer irritation, and worst case... lead to contempt of the game or developers. So onto the rules of this thread. 1) Respect. Respect other posters opinions. We all have different peeves so that thing that bugs you may not bug someone else. Respect that. 2) Bugs. This is NOT the thread to list them. There are appropriate threads for that. 3) Details. We need to know more than just the issue. We need to know what the cause, effect and circumstances of the issue are. 4) Clarity. Please for the sake of everyone... be clear in your post. Vague, misspelled words, horrid grammer and poor sentence structure will more than likely cause people to not pay attention to you, even if you have valid points. 5) The Fix. This is where you explain what YOU would like to see done, or present an IDEA of how the issue could be solved. So let's start the party. 1) AI gold grabbing. It's annoying as is. A great idea, but the way it is handled is not great. As soon as combat stops the AI party member runs around grabbing gold and sometimes stands on top of REAL LOOT, which leads to a very awkward humping of character sprites as you attempt to push the AI off the loot. The other option is even less attractive... run in a direction until the AI partner moves off the loot. FIX #1 - (PC) Incorporate a button command for the AI to start auto-looting AND THEN come back BEHIND the player character. FIX #2 - (CONSOLE) Increase the timer from when the player stops moving that auto-loot is turned on AND THEN have the AI come back BEHIND the player. 2) AI dodging. What dodging? They stand there and take it all like a $5 corner hooker. This is unacceptable on HARDCORE. FIX #1 - Incorporate an AI algorithm that is run off of probabilities and imminent attack. Players have intuition and know when an attack "could" be coming. The AI is the computer... it knows an attack is coming. All you have to do is create an algorithm in the AI party member script that runs off of attack timers of active on screen enemies or proximity enemies according to the x,y,z placement of both instances and then have the probability of whether the AI party member will dodge the attack. There are many ways to handle the probabilities... AGI stat... level... whatever. 3) Target Locking - This feature doesn't exist as far as I know (PC). And in heated battles certain non-splash (non-AoE) abilities are a guess as to what enemy you hit. With, say, Katrina this makes the curses less useful. There are other circumstances that this is needed as well. FIX #1 - Just incorporate Target Locking. Not so hard.
  12. Lulz... silly metamag! I told you not to be so harsh on DS3, and I champion that it's better than DA2 in every possible way. Glad to see that you can at least admit when you make a mistake or hasty unfair judgment. Not many people have that ability. I am proud.
  13. Seeing as how the game was built as a "multiplayer game" and the multiplayer is marred by the MP camera... I am inclined to agree that the two most requested fixes/updates are... 1) Keymapping 2) MP camera (actually the camera in general needs another +25% zoom out even in SP) BUT THE THIRD is most definitely New Game+ or some sort of Arena mode. I hate that as is, I have 4 fully leveled characters that I built and cared for from the ground up and only JUST GOT THEM to the point of badassery with glowing crap and effects everywhere... and the game is over for them. Even DS and DS2 had a built in New Game+ like mechanic where you can choose your old characters and start a new game with them.
  14. And here I was thinking the two most requested additions that would make the game better were... 1) Keymapping 2) NEW GAME+
  15. Yeah, thanks for the cynical and highly sarcastic reply. Except DA and DA2 were garbage. DA is a bit of a personal preference thing, but DA2 is universally known throughout the gaming industry as a complete and utter failure as a game. And here's why. 1) The story sucked. 2) Choices... what choices. Unlike DA, in DA2 choices don't mean anything. 3) Combat was "button=awesome" 4) Tactics went out the window with their (BioWare's) nonthought-out "wave system" 5) Literally enemies were beamed down from the Starship Enterprise. 6) Backflipping Skydiving Paladins in full-plate armor 7) The money system sucks in both games The city of Kirkwall is a lifeless husk... contrary to lore and canon where it is supposedly the busiest/fullest city in the world post-Blight 9) The developers are arrogant pricks, namely Mike Laidlaw and they can't even admit mistakes. 10) There is a grand total of 6 dungeons in the game and they are reused over and over and over and over again. There is actually a list of about 50 things that suck about DA2. I just can't be arsed to go on for someone like you. If you think BioWare/EA's s*** don't stink and you want to worship their godawful game designing then go for it. More power to you, I on the other hand will gladly continue playing good games like TW2 and DS3.
  16. I liked Alpha Protocol. It was a very fun game with impacting decisions. I liked it much more than Dragon Age and DA2 from BioWare.
  17. QFT MFW! In conclusion. DS3 wasn't dumbed down. And specifically it wasn't dumbed down for consoles. Play DS1 && DS2, then come back and play DS3. It's apparent that the combat was NOT dumbed down from previous titles in the franchise. In fact, if anything it's quite the opposite. The combat and game in general is a step up from previous installments.
  18. The keys are explained as you play through the burning manor. The single place where everything else is explained is the Pause Menu Help File. And what blows my mind is that people still harp on the "dumbing down" thing when they themselves are not intuitive enough to figure out simple controls and read a Help File that is already included in a game. To be perfectly honest I HATE tutorials, and I HATE it even more when you can't turn the tutorial messages off. Especially after I have completed the game once or I am playing on Hardcore (High, Hard, Nightmare, etc, etc). So it was already done. The only two things about this game that should have been done on release are 1) Keymapping 2) New Game+ BTW I am just chiming in and dropping my $.02, so this is not directed at you. Just building upon your quote.
  19. Seriously, NEW GAME+. That is all. And NO I don't want to pay for it. It's a damned industry standard for RPGs now, so I shouldn't have to pay for an RPG feature that should have been in an RPG.
  20. I can share this sentiment. Although, proudly, I am a PC gamer so one day we might actually get a toolset so we can mod and make our own content.
  21. "Perfect" Only word I can describe what I just read.
  22. I see where he is going with this and it is strictly in the hypothetical universe of "what-ifs". So to be honest it's one of those correlations that is non-issue. Attempting to assume that if Microsoft didn't make the Xbox gaming platform then they would have promoted Windows Gaming computers and made computer gaming a much more valid industry consumer base. This assumption of course is ignoring the fact that PC gaming has always been hit-or-miss when it comes to benchmarks within the industry. It's very difficult to develop games that can challenge the technology of an up-to-date computer built for gaming because the progression of technology is faster than the progression of game development. Like-wise you must reach as many consumers as possible and have to decide where you base the minimum requirements of a system to adequately play the game. And this would not have changed based on the release of the Xbox platform.
  23. Seriously? This feels like a "trolling topic" and makes no damned sense at all. I have only a few times ever played a game that had an ending that cared about accrued wealth. And, um... who cares anyway?
  24. First of all, who cares? It's a game. You play it and enjoy it, or you eff off and sthu. You offer criticism with no real points and nothing constructive. Diablo and Diablo 2 - were great... for their times. Now, they are not. So this is redundant because if those games were released now they would be laughed at. Baldur's Gate - Ok, it was good. But again it suffers from the same redundancy as Diablo references. It WOULD NOT be acceptable in today's market. In fact, screw this, every game you have listed is old and played out. None of those games released today would be acceptable. And Fable? Are you kidding me? After reading that I instantly knew that you are either trolling or actually don't know what a good game is. In no way does Fable blow DS3 out of the water. Pong? Pacman? Space Invaders? Whatever.
  25. Well... yes. This is Business 101, my friend. If you cut costs then the profit margins are larger. That's why businesses have looked into cutting operation costs for years. If say a business can cut 100,000$ off the energy bill by changing the light-bulbs they use, they increase profits by reducing costs. This is applicable in the game industry as well. If you spend less on development and advertising (double-edged sword, to be honest) you CAN increase profits... IF a reasonable amount of product is sold. So, while it's possible, admittedly we need details. I'm just trying to interject some logic into the discussion. My points are that as long as the target audience sales are sufficiently permeated in the market then you have reached at least ONE milestone of success. You have sold the product to the target audience which is "supposed" to be your largest market. Anything after that is additional success via sales through a secondary market. Make sense? You don't actually believe I was able to turn your earlier post into a single succinct sentence and not understand what you were talking about do you? I was agreeing with you but i wanted to make your post shorter so I could condense it for use in my next post. Which is located above this post. Ah, I meant no disrespect. And apologize if you took offense. I indeed got the impression that you understood my fist post and posted a very well written summery. I was also taken by it being presented in a sentence form and thus was a queue for me to explain myself in a bit more detail. Anyways, I believe I have presented a valid point on the discussion, and will admit that we still need more details to form a genuine prediction of the "true success".
