Can't wait to see episode 3. I really liked episode 1. I don't know why people rag on it so much. But then again I'm very easily entertained and it only took Darth Maul's menacing visage and his awesome skill with the lightsaber to hook me. You really have to appreciate Ray Park's skill. You know how incredibly difficult it is to make smooth transitions from a sword slash to a spinning kick? In fact he was too good and made Maul's death seem...implausible. Plus he made the episode 2 lightsaber fights laughable. Well for me at least. Episode 2 was ok. The acting and wording, especially the love confession scenes, those were excruciating to watch. However the overall story was pretty good, with Palpatine waeving his grand strategy of simultaneously weakening the Republic with the recalcitrant Seperatists, and making way for the justification of emergency powers and the clone army. You can tell he's getting ready to backstab the separatists after they've served their purpose and weakening the Jedi Knights by deploying them in small numbers as leaders in the clone army. All the more easier to destroy them when the time comes. I have high hopes for Ep 3

I have the Berserk anime series. I really enjoyed it, despite the ending (One of those cases where the anime only covered the mangas that were done at the time? A cutoff for a second series/season? *shrugs*). One of my favorite anime series to date in any case. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's most likely the case. I read the Manga that's translated from Japanese to Korean, and it usually comes out a lot faster than in the States. Lets see, the last issue I read is #30. There's been a lot of development since the end of the anime series. The manga is still being published periodically and the story still has some ways to go until the inevitable confrontation. The Japanese Mangas have a lot of variety to them. Everything from romance to pirates, boxing to huge robots. Not a lot of superhero comics though.

Hey to each his own. Some people prefer story driven games with lots of interaction between the PC and the world. Some people like running and gunning and others like playing sports games and yet others prefer the thrill of a real time strategy game. No one was implying that people who prefer other types of games are unintelligent. Though sometimes we are over-zealous in our praise, but that goes for anyone who has had a particularly cool experience with a game.

Damn.. all these Planescape Torment threads are enticing me to install the game again and play through it once more. No Minsc bashing or Boo will go for your eyes! RWAAAAAARGH Sorry, had to do it.

Yeah, bunny hopping and rolling around your enemy while hurling your mighty attacks at the air before you in hopes that your enemy will be foolish enough to put himself in the path of your blade is so much better. I mean, when is Lucas going to have a real saber fight like that in the movies? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> heh, I was like that in the beginning, but the Jedi Knight Games actually do require skills other than rolling around like mad and swinging like crazy. The single saber style is the best, and if you practice you'll find yourself switching between the three styles for defense and offense while timing your attacks just when the enemy leaves himself open for attack. It's pretty satisfying when the game goes into slowmo just as you deliver the killing blow.

I just read Gamespy's preview for the game. Seems good. I wonder if we can balst some Jedi or Sith, that would be really cool. It's out in March!

I've bought from them before via their Amazon storefront, I liked the little pen they sent me with my game, it was nifty. I just got Torment and the Fallout Double Pack from Amazon for $13.37 (s&h included). (w00t) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Nice. Go Gamer looks pretty good. I signed up for it.

I really liked the combat in Outcast and Academy as well, but combat in a RPG shouldn't be like combat in an action game. How effective a fighter you are in a RPG is determined by your stats and feats, not your hand eye coordination, and frankly that's part of the fun for me.

Japanese Mangas are pretty fun. Everyone here should read Berserk by Kentauro Miura. You know its gonna be good when the you start out with a guy getting it on with a hot girl and then she turns into this Demon-monster thing and the guy blows her head off. But its much more than pure violence. Love, Honor, Betrayal of the worst kind, Vengeance and some pretty deep philosophy. I think Darkhorse distributes it. There is an animated series for it as well.

It looks pretty cool. I'm a sucker for Asian fantasy and martial arts. I'm gonna have to try these out.

Thanks for the answers guys. I've already played Torment and the Fallout series. They were released in Korea. I guess during that early period of the RPG renaissance they were releasing those games en masse. How they expected Koreans to play through untranslated games like Fallout and Torment is beyond me. I was actually part of a team of translators trying to translate BG from English to Korean. We partly succeeded. Anyways I found Fallout and Torment in the bargain bins a few weeks later after their release in Korea. I was saddened because people would miss out on some great games. Also having paid full price for the games didn't help matters, but it was worth it I suppose I'm pretty familiar with past great games since I've been reading all the gaming sites while I was in Korea. What I really need is some info on reliable internet vendors. I've been at Amazon and they seem to have some great prices there.

I've been living in Korea for the last 10 years, and while there is a huge gaming scene there it's mostly centered on RTS(Starcraft! Warcraft) and MMORPGs like Lineage, World of Warcraft(still beta in Korea I hear) and Diablo. I know Diablo isn't a MMORPG, but it was huge in Korea. Then you have the FPS games that sometimes make it into the market. Part of this reason is because Koreans are insanely competitive and love to pummel their opponents to the ground. Whether it be with swarms of units destroying everything in their path, showing of the latest shiny item in a MMORPG, or just simply gunning someone down. Not that I'm complaining, I've played and enjoyed many those games, but my true gaming passion has always been in the single player RPG ever since Baldur's Gate. Amazingly this game was actually released in Korea and sold well, or at least I think it did since they also released BG2 and most of the Infinity Engine games. But most of the other single player RPGs passed me by. Games that I had only read about on the Internet. Arx Fatalis, Gothic series, Divine Divinity series, Neverwinter Nights, Arcanum, Anachronox and Morrowind are just some of the games I wanted to play but weren't released in Korea. Actually come to think of it NWN and Dungeon Siege were released but it was all in Korean, which kept me from purchasing the games. Korean just sounds awkward in a Western based fantasy game. I was only able to play KotOR because a couple of SW fans and I decided to purchase the game internationally, to save on shipping. I don't know who makes the decision on what games to import to Korea because gems like KotOR never get released but instead they release Lionheart...which was fun, but not half as fun as KotOR. So now I find myself living in the States. I was browsing through Amazon when the realization suddenly struck me. Hey! I can buy those games I really wanted to play way back when. And they're so cheap! And I don't have to wait for frikken forever for them to cross the goddamn Pacific Ocean. And woohoo! low shipping costs! So before I go on a game buying spree, I'd like to ask the members on this forum to recommend some trusty internet sellers. Of course I'll be looking around on my own, but I thought it would be prudent to draw upon the advice given here. I feel so happy! I can't wait for my work to be finished so I can embark on a gaming spree for a couple of days! :D

I liked both games as well. It's been quite awhile since I've played both but I thought the gameplay aspects IWD2 were on par with the original. I don't really remember being frustrated with anything about the gameplay. Storywise, I think the original had a better story, or I rather I think it had a better antagonist, although he wasn't revealed until the end. IWDs main antagonists sounded childish in comparison.

It might have something to do with you being a dork and all. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's so true!

Annah is hot, tail and all. Now why can't I meet a girl like that?

Heh, How could I forget He Man? By the power of Castle Grayskull! I still have this tape recording of me and a friend pretending to be He Man. Of course later we get into a fight about who actually gets to be He Man and then all you can hear are scuffling noises. It's pretty hilarious. And I still think Masters of the Universe is one entertaining piece of cinema. I saw it with my father at the theaters. Dolph Lundgren as He Man threw me off for a bit because I still had him pegged as the evil Russian boxer who killed Apollo but he grew on me. I'm gonna rent it next time I'm in a Video Store.

Thundarr was awesome. I used to watch that show religiously. Space Ghost was awesome as well, but what was even better were Cartoon Planet and Space Ghost Coast to Coast. The 80s had some great cartoons. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Man, I can't seem to remember any of those, except for Mask. That was pretty cool too. It was the cartoon with the transforming vehicles and the guys with Masks right? I used to watch Transformers, Voltron, Robotech, Thundercats, G.I. Joe and The Muppet Babies....hey I was like 6 or 7. Oh yeah and I remember the Silverhawks too.

Thanks for the info deganawida. I do remember reading some Joe comics when I was in middle school. I was at a party and discovered my friend had this entire box full of them. So instead of partying I secluded myself from everyone and spent the entire day reading them. Needless to say I was quickly pointed out as a nerd who would rather read comics than party but school popularity be damned, those comics were fun. I remember them being quite visceral, with people actually get hit by the guns and dying! Something the cartoons didn't show. I'm gonna have to check them out again.

Like most others have said Start with Fallout and Fallout 2. Truly awesome games both. You might also want to try Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity. Actually I'm surprised no one has mentioned these two yet. I've only had the chance to play Divine Divinity, but its a great game. You might think it a Diablo clone at first since much of the action and even the interface are very similar, but it also has great exploration, unexpected quests, a huge world and interesting, sometimes funny NPCs. And I agree with Torment being great game. Ignore those who would cajole you away from this game, they just weren't open minded enough to truly appreciate the characters and story. They probably played the game through as a fighter.

I've read some SW books and most of them aren't that enthralling. I've read the Thrawn series, Jedi Academy, The Black Fleet Crisis and so on. I would recommend visiting your local library to borrow the books and not actually purchase them. I mean you are not going to be reading these a lot, if at all after the first time. Also rather than the books, try the comics published by Darkhorse. I find these more interesting, but its probably because I like looking at the artwork. www.darkhorse.com Find your way to the Star Wars Timeline to get some idea of when the comics take place. There are a lot

Wow, my curiosity about Storm Shadow is sated! Is there a way I can somehow watch those old cartoons. That would be awesome. Just a day watching old GI Joe and Transformer cartoons, eating cereal until I'm sick. I would buy the DVDs if they have them, hmm I'll go check.
-
I take it English isn't your first language. Anyway the Valkyrie toys are the greatest transformer-type toys ever. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I had one of those! I also had the Voltron five Lion set. Probably the best toys I ever had. I also had frikken huge Millenium Falcon toy. WHY did I give that away! WHY? I don't think they make toys like they used too.

Oh man, do I have fond memories of GI Joe and Transformers and Voltron. Some random memories are 1. I remember almost pissing my pants in excitement when the Aerial Bots were introduced. They look like awesome fighter planes! And the combine into a huge robot!(I forget the name, but remember he had this high screeching voice) Correct me of I'm wrong, but Optimus Prime created the Aerial Bots to combat the evil car Decepticons right? And the leader of the Aerial Bots was afraid of heights right? I actually pissed myself in excitement one of my friends actually got the entire Aerial Bot set for Christmas...lucky bastard. 2. The coolest GI Joe I can remember is Snake Eyes and Stormshadow. Probably because they were both ninjas which are automatically cool. Out of curiosity Stormshadow was originally a member of Cobra, but then I remember all of the sudden his outfit changed from white to white and grey and he was classified as a member of GI Joe. What's up with that? I never did find out. 3. Ahh, voltron. As the five tigers they usually got their butts kicked by whatever new evil robotic menace the evil overgrown smurfs had built. But when they combined into Voltron and formed the BLAZING SWORD, they were toast. I remember thinking to myself, Evil Robots! Attack when Voltron is combining! He takes virtually forever, why don't you attack? I got my answer one day when one of the evil robots DID attack! Ha! The evil robot was struck back by the immensely powerful electrical field that surrounded Voltron, keeping him from harm! I should have known! Two questions, I have a vague memory that the original pilot of Blue Lion was not the Princess but someone else....anyone know? Also there was another Voltron too. Not nearly as cool as the Lion Voltron. Is this a Voltron from another time or what? On the other side of the Galaxy Voltron? Heh. Thanks for the great nostalgia trip people.

What are the rumors on BG3? Obviously it can't be a continuation of BG2 and your original character from all the way back in BG1. Maybe your original PC's ancestor? Or would it be a prequel type sequel? I prefer the western based RPGs over the Japanese ones myself. The game mechanics, themes, story and overall feel just seem to make a lot more sense personally to me. I did play FF 4 through 8, FF6 being my favorite, and did enjoy most of it, but after a while I began to feel it was the same thing over and over again. After Fallout and BG I hardly looked back to Japanese console RPGs. Although I probably would get around to playing any good ones people on the board recommend. When I get the time if ever. Personally I would like to see an RPG set once again in the Planes, like Torment.
