No achievements earned
ShadowScythe replied to faloow PL's question in Dungeon Siege III: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
The game isn't out until 21st for US right? Is that maybe the reason? I haven't gotten achievements either although Steam has been logging the hours played. -

No I did Stonebridge first before now heading off to meet the Queen (wanted to see Reinhart's hometown). The quests in Stonebridge were pretty interesting and relatively grey- it just seems pretty light compared to Obsidian's usual stuff. -

Early Impressions Thread

According to Steam I've charted 11 hours now (I'm trying to do every side quest in this game)- Just finished Stonebridge and I'm heading to the Glitterdelve mines thing. I really loved the Stonebridge quests- it was where the game really picked up for me. Now that I'm used to the controls I gotta say I love the combat. This game and Divinity 2 DKS have some of the best ARPG combat I've seen in ages, it's fun and tactical and the rpg elements work well to layer the game. Plus I like that the game forces you to be aggressive and doesn't really allow you to just run around the map waiting for stats to regen like Div2 and other arpgs do- hated how Witcher 2 was just spam quen and kite around the map till vigor regens (at least that's how it seems so far). Maybe it's not the party based combat of the original or whatever- but man it works well. I hope that AI companions can't revive you on hardcore though since I felt it was a bit of a crutch on normal (didn't stop me from dying a few times to some bosses though- the boss encounters felt very old school and fun). Not sure how I feel about the story though- it's kinda cliched but executed well (kinda like Bioware stories), I do hope we get some more Obsidian style, more morally grey, thought provoking stuff (I really hope JEYNE KASSYNDER is more than just a big evil dark lord on her throne of spikes) -
Does Australia get the US release date or the Europe release date?

Dunno what you're talking about. While I didn't see that much loot difference for Lucas (aside from weapon changes esp. the awesome green flame sword from beating the witch) I saw very clear loot differences for Anjali- her outfits and weapons changed a lot.

Lol! Reminds me of those old SSB ads on TV. So cheesy and hilarious.

If you read what I put (pcgamers 94% review of the DA2) you would have realized that I was simply saying that looking to reviews ONLY to judge the worth of a product is a terrible idea. Don't put words in my mouth. Eh, DA2's relatively high ratings among reviewers despite its shoddy design is largely cause of Bioware's reputation among more mainstream gamers (and possibly EA's hype machine). Obsidian doesn't really have that reputation among game journalists for whatever reason so solid reviews for DS3 is a lot more credible compared to PC Gamer's nonsense RPG of the decade claim.

Oh that looks heaps better than the default Nevada skies look, thanks I'll run the imaginator mod as well to adjust settings- still think that Western skies look is just perfect though. Soundless sandstorms are a small price to pay for that look. Can I ask,

Savegames online co-op
ShadowScythe replied to chrisssj2's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
*sigh* To each his own then. All I'm saying is that claiming a game sucks cause it lacks multiplayer when said features were never intended is missing the point, I can just as easily claim that games like Skyrim will be terrible because it has no multiplayer and the devs are just cheap, lazy and greedy for not programming it in. It's missing the point. Maybe this isn't the same as the original dungeon sieges or whatever but you still have those kinds of features in the upcoming diablo game which will no doubt completely blow DS1 and 2 out of the park. So quit whining and ruining it for the rest of us who just want to enjoy some BG:DA style arpg with some co-op thrown in as well. It's just a game right? We should all really just relax. -
Savegames online co-op
ShadowScythe replied to chrisssj2's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
if they werent going to do it right it shouldnt have been added at all..any developer with half a brain knows in this type of game thats what drives the co-op..its pretty much pointless now..theres a huge amount of potential customers now that are going to pass on this game for that simple reason..i know for a fact my friends are not buying it..i hope when its all said and done obsidian has to explain it was this decision that cost so many sales of the game to square.. You sir have serious entitlement issues. It's not your thing, ok, it's not about doing it "right" or not, it's simply not the genre for it. It's like complaining that Portal doesn't have guns that actually shoot bullets, it's not the same genre and for good reason. Diablo 3 was already going to do it, and would do it better thanks to higher budget and staff that are more experienced in these kinds of things. And it's incredibly arrogant to talk about loss of sales, for every sale they lose off people who want multiplayer lootem grindfests they can just as easily gain a sale for people who want a fun qstorybased arpg to play with some friends. -
Savegames online co-op
ShadowScythe replied to chrisssj2's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
The aim wasn't to make a diablo-alike, they wanted to differentiate it from Diablo because otherwise there'd be no reason to get it when you could get diablo 3. This is a story focused arpg with co-op designed to just chill around and have fun with friends ala portal 2- that's something that I've always wanted and loved- i don't care much for looting and exp grinding. If that isn't your thing, then fine, go play diablo 3. It wasn't about copping out and being cheap and whatever, they were trying something different and aren't catering for a crowd that'd much rather play diablo 3. -
Ah cool, thanks for the links. I guess the Vault suit thing is just my terrible graphics card that needs to be replaced asap.
-
It's not an excuse, it's a clear problem and shrinking down the interface isn't going to achieve anything (interface only looks large on PC, on a TV I'd imagine it'd need to be that big for all the stats and icons to be clearly visible) It's simply not worth the hassle, besides 4 player co-op is supported by online anyway- such a petty thing to complain about.
-
4 player local co-op would lead to an incredibly clustered UI that'd just be a real hassle to deal with. I dunno how DnD heroes did it, screenshot? EDIT: Nvm here's the screenshot can't say I like how that looks, way too clustered and messed up, nope 2 player local 4 player online was the best choice.

What texture mods are you running to get such high def on the vault suit (at least I think it's high def, don't recall seeing those stitch marks on the 21 in my game) and the rifle? Also does Nevada skies always look that nice? Cause on my rig it just looks like the normal NV skies with some weather effects, super dark nights and this annoyingly oversaturated look (admittedly my graphics card is terrible and I need to get a new one I'm just wondering if Nevada skies always looks that fantastic) And yeah NV is awesome, probably one of my favourite games of the past few years as well.

They could make it right clicking to move around (i.e. point and click as opposed to holding down rmb to move around). Personally I just think a and d need to be actual strafing movement rather than awkwardly turning in different directions and camera auto orient turned off by default and the controls would be fine.
-
It's random drop thing so it's luck based I guess. For me Lucas's armour didn't change that much but his swords changed a lot (especially at the end when I defeated the witch and got this awesome looking sword with green flames coming off). With Anjali though I found her armour changing a lot and weapons changing a little bit as well. The loot system was fine for me and I found the camera was fine when auto orient was turned off. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that a and d just turns the character clockwise and counterclockwise instead of actually moving/strafing left and right. That really worked against me in combat.

My thoughts on Dungeon siege 3 (IMPORTANT)
ShadowScythe replied to Humodour's topic in Dungeon Siege III: General Discussion
The boss was difficult and you died a lot? -
I'm only getting this game to grief randoms by letting them play with me for 75% of the story and then not letting them join my game ever again. Because they totally rely on you to get access to the story. Besides it looks like griefing was never really going to be an option seeing as the co-op is designed to be local couch co-op with friends and family and online co-op only as a means to hang out with friends when you are separated. So...good luck with that.
