The Case for Romance.
Leferd replied to NanoPaladin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Whoever said anything about romance? Dynaheir is a witch...and she has needs, and Minsc is a physical specimen Why do you think she always saves her Charm spells at night? ...(it's because she wants to get laid) Dude, the Friendly Arm gets more action than the Olympic Village. Eldoth + Skie Coran + Safana Coran + Safana + all comers Shar-Teel + Branwen Xzar + Montalban Jaheira getting really Nasty w Khalid. Abusive. -
The Case for Romance.

Bruce, he's talking about implied role playing using the imagination to fill in the parts of the game that is outside the scope of actual gameplay. In your head. Creating stories for yourself regarding what is happening after hours or in between the butt kicking for goodness part. Minsc (+Boo) and Dynaheir getting it on at the Friendly Arm. Keldorn showing some of the inner workings of his Radiant Heart to Anomen and showing him who's the master paladin. There...instant romance. During the course of gameplay, we get a sense of what is going on with our party interaction. We don't have to explicitly see/hear what is going on in camp. If you think there is some extracurricular activity going on, well why not? Let your imagination go with it. Hiro's smurfs certainly did. -

4 hours in. Agreed that it's an improvent over a Dead Man's Switch. Really enjoying it.

Dang. Never considered Volo's textured usage of nuance. I've always figured his preferred posting style was as sharp as a bag of hammers. ... Manu's shoe incident was hilarious.

Well, Volo did use a smaller font...

Will be giving it a go this weekend.

Agreed about Indiana. Barely watchable unless you have a thing for defense pr0n. But tell me about Houston. Why are they fun to watch for you? Do you actually watch their games? They lead the league in three point attempts, except that they have no particularly good three point shooters. They also lead the league in free throw attempts, except that they are next to the bottom in FT%. They are also near the bottom on passes per possession...which is pretty good if you like to watch a lot of Heroball. And their primary backcourt, Harden and Kin can't play together. Both need the ball to be effective and their skillsets are redundant when they play together. Neither are particularly effective jumpshootists; each having to rely on the pick n roll, and both have lousy turnover rates as primary ball handlers. Fun to watch? Please.

Yep. Vogel's defensive schemes are outstanding as they essentially force offenses to settle for mid range jumpers. Tom Thibidou's defenses are also becoming very popular in the league. It's primarily an anti pick n roll defense called ICE that denies the middle and forces players towards the baseline or funnels them straight to your shotblocker if beaten.

Keeping it simple: I enjoy watching a well balanced offensive system predicated on ball movement and flexibility. Houston's offense though effective at times, does not generate ball movement or adaptability. They will have difficulty against good defenses that can take away the paint and guard against the three. I enjoyed the Triangle under Phil Jackson, the Princeton Offense under Rick Adelman, and the Nellieball Warriors. Three different offenses that were adaptable and can counter whatever the defense was showing them.

Exhibit A: Daryl Morey http://grantland.com/the-triangle/trio-grande-valley-daryl-moreys-d-league-plan-to-do-away-with-midrange-shots/ Pretty serindipitous.

Hardcore fans would have backed it on Day One of the Kickstarter. -

Gilroy. Or garlic restaurants like the Stinking Rose in San Francisco. -
Nah. My biggest complaint is that Chandler Parsons isn't getting elbowed in the face enough.

Not gonna lie. Never having your garlic ice cream ever again. -
[–]Jexlz 12 points 5 hours ago I think you recently said you won't include romances in the game. They are almost standard in these kinds of games. What was your reason for not including them? permalink [–]obsidian-badlerObsidian Entertainment 29 points 5 hours ago Josh's response was that he didn't feel we could do them well with the time and resources that we have available to make the game. Take it from the guy who makes the schedules, he isn't wrong. Romances are very expensive to do well and we would have to cut things from the game to make them properly. permalinkparent

I can't stand Houston. Just hate, HATE the way they play the game. If you want to talk about an Analytics or Bust approach, that'll be the Houston Rockets under Daryl Morey. Offense is precipitated on three things: the three pointer points, in the paint, and free throws. They lead the league in 3pt attempts/g, second in FTA/g, and among the leaders in points in the paint. They are in the bottom quarter in assists/g. They also are by far, on the bottom of the league in mid range FG attempts. All by design. Of course, this makes sens as the Expected Value of a midrange or long two is pretty abysmal when compared to a three point shot or shots from the paint( high fg% or increased free throw likelihood). Essentially, their offense is based on the pick n roll. Ex: Harden/Lin play a two man game w Dwight. This will lead to either a dunk to Howard, a drive by Harden or Lin (or foul shots as a result). No surprise that harden and Howard shoot tons of foul shots a game. If the defense collapses and packs the paint, they'll find Parsons or another shooter waiting for a corner trey. The confounding thing is that for all the volume of threes they shoot, they are not a very good jump shooting team at all, but the percentages say that shooting a three gives you solid EV. Sigh. It's Predictable, boring basketball with lots of stoppages and and not much in the way of aesthetical creativity. Plus Chandler Parsons. There is probably no one in the association that I would enjoy more seeing getting elbowed in the face.

It'll probably be the same to purchase now as you would purchasing upon release. But backing now would give you the peace of mind of knowing that you are helping fund its development. Then again, you could conceivably save money if you were to wait some time after release and take advantage of a steam or gog sale. -
Help me decide which "classic" and other RPGs to play

I'm in general agreement. -
The Biathlon events have been the most enjoyable for me to watch. Then again, I come from a cross country and track and field background so anything that involves anything close to a foot race is exciting for me. Plus guns.
