watched the end of saw IV last night. meh. each one seems to lose something from its predecessor. after the horrible scene with the chick in the pit full of syringes (i am afeared of needles), they simply can't do anything i find even remotely frightening. the required amount of suspension of disbelief has gotten to the point it just isn't worth watching them anymore. taks

saving a basket full of newborn infants from a pack of rabid wolves in the backcountry would be an interesting story. the ladies might dig it. it's all about the ladies either way. taks

slow down there, killer! too much excitement in one day, you know... so, more seriously, how's the recovery coming along? taks

i think that is a safe bet, yes. i suppose there could be some other medical maladies that would require something similar, things that aren't nearly as common (noting that hypoglycemia is not common to begin with). taks

awww... our little walshy-pooh is growing up! taks

edit: wrong thread... taks

hypoglycemia results in lower than necessary levels of glucose in the blood, and thus requires higher than normal intake of glucose or things that metabolize to glucose quickly. taks

oh, no, i agree with this. i don't think that's what the doctor was getting at in hurlshot's comment, however. it seemed to me (obviously purely a hypothetical guess) that the doctor thought said friend was not getting a proper amount of some type of sugar, which to me would imply glucose, for some otherwise unspecified medical reason (maybe hypoglycemia?). i assumed glucose because it seems to be the one that is most required by the body (based on my readings and my understanding of diabetes due to my wife and son). taks PS: my son does not have diabetes, but he does have the gene for it. he's in three studies now: one called DAISY which is attempting to uncover the link between diet and appearance of the autoantibodies that ultimately kill the islet cells in the pancreas, one called Trial Net which is an attempt at preventing diabetes once the autoantibodies appear, and one other that i have no idea about. john hates getting his blood drawn, btw.

i'd recommend you try the BG trilogy since it works better than tutu and it seems to be more stable. it also has a big patch that puts in all the standard stuff required for play, e.g., the baldurdash fixes and a variety of the most common addons. i've played both, btw, and was immensely happier with trilogy. the bummer, however, is that it is difficult to do the multiplayer solo cheat for BG2 only, without playing through BG1 first. i had to uninstall BGT to get my own party shoehorned into a BG2 session without trudging through BG1 first. taks

you NEED glucose to provide fuel for your brain (look it up on wiki if you're not convinced), not "different types of sugars." fructose does not substitute for glucose as it digests differently. processed sugar is sucrose, which breaks down into a glucose molecule and a fructose molecule. carbs do the same, i.e., they break down into simple sugars. taks

well, different sugars digest differently, and likewise get used by the body differently. glucose is what insulin turns to fuel for the brain, btw. reading more about fructose, btw, i'm not sure what hurl's friend's doctor was getting at. fruits in general seem to be all over the map in regards to their fructose, sucrose, and glucose contents. apples in particular have nearly 60% fructose, but almost equal amounts of glucose (23%) and sucrose (21%). taks

i think you friend's doctor was not very clear. fruit juice, using the US definition, contains nothing but pure fruit, and likewise will have simple fructose. fruit juice ****tails typically have high-fructose corn syrup in them, which contains an equal mixture of fructose and glucose (corn syrup is nearly 100% glucose). the latter is probably what the doctor was driving at, i.e., more glucose. that's also what they use to bring diabetics out of a diabetic coma: a shot of glucose. calling it a shot is a severe understatement, however, since the syringe barrel is huge. milk sugar = lactose. most of the world's population cannot digest it past childhood. i can, it would seem, though i do not particularly care for milk. taks

that's all he had cause to do (and was right to do it, though he should have kicked her to the curb, too). she was the one cheating his trust, not you (i'm assuming you didn't know the guy). had he gotten in your face he would have been blaming the wrong person. taks

it's not ridiculous at all, you just have to be careful and mindful of what can go wrong. taks

i have been corrected... gonoherpesyfylaids. taks

when i first started reading this i thought the thread was started today... then i got to your "it's still not here" comment and wondered exactly how impatient you must be. from futurama (the route of all evil): Dwight: Man, the ad said to allow four to six seconds for delivery. [Cubert snorts.] Cubert: More like seven! taks ps: i must credit the infosphere for this transcript cut. i did not know the exact words, but the sad part is that i knew enough to find them.

probably the same reason coke needed to be sweeter: to attract new drinkers. of course, like with coke, such an attitude ignores the existing customer base and what THEY want, and hence, new coke is but a footnote in history and the butt of jokes such as this. the people that watch sci-fi are already watching, and the people that think sci-fi is geeky aren't really going to switch because of a name change. the people that think programs on sci-fi are intellectually bankrupt are smart enough to know better, too. taks

hmmm... the first thought that came to mind when i read this topic was: rohipnol? taks

hmmm.. an interesting though, i'm 35 in dog pounds (actually, i'm down to just under 34 in dog pounds now, and holding steady). taks

No. You're like.. 12 years old so you're normal. When you get above 20+ you'll be around 180-200 lbs for sure. yup. i graduated high school with the same height and weight. within 2 years i was around 200 lbs. (though still thin because i was an avid weight-lifter at the time). in fact, during my heavy lifting days i peaked at 215, and an extremely low fat percentage. then i stopped lifting... but kept eating, and drinking, and being lazy otherwise. taks

i revise my last statement... oof, hades. my "optimal weight" would probably be somewhere around 210-215 lbs., though the brilliant FDA charts all say something like 185. when i was down to 205 this summer (the taks patented stress diet), i looked almost anorexic to everyone that knows me. i have a large frame with very wide shoulders (something like a 46" chest even when i weighed only 190). taks
