The Last (Court) Battle of GamerGate: Feminists Lost, Free Speech Won
Oerwinde replied to ktchong's topic in Way Off-Topic
Most of the Tropes vs women backers never cared about the content. They just heard about the abuse she was getting and wanted to stick it to the jerks attacking her. She made her money, they felt like they made a difference, and moved on.- 115 replies

The Last (Court) Battle of GamerGate: Feminists Lost, Free Speech Won

Yeah, what a lot of people celebrating his victory are losing here is that he's not a hero. He was harassing Reily, just not criminally. With Guthrie the harassment stems from her ideology and worldview. She believed she was being harassed because she didn't like having to hear his opinions on a public forum and assumed every time he tweeted to a hashtag she also frequented that it was directed towards her. She's a narcissist.- 115 replies

The Last (Court) Battle of GamerGate: Feminists Lost, Free Speech Won

Thats a good post Do you feel on a personal level you were manipulated into supporting GG? And I'm not trying to catch you out or make you look silly. The type of manipulation I am referring to was subtle and surreptitious and took time to build so that when the Alexander article broke you were already frustrated by months of criticism from the likes of Anita so it would have been easy to align with GG? I supported GG because I was frustrated with the state of games journalism. It seemed like every other article was about how the games I liked are disgusting filth and I should feel bad, and rather than reporting on games they were dictating to the devs how they should make their games. They made no effort to separate their news and opinion. I stopped being involved when it stopped being about games. While I tend to sympathize more with their side of the "culture war", I got involved because I felt games journalism was damaging to games, as the DOAX3 thing showed. But the DOAX3 thing was really the only big gaming controversy in a while, and most of Kotaku In Action is no longer games or gaming journalism related.- 115 replies

The Last (Court) Battle of GamerGate: Feminists Lost, Free Speech Won

Gamergate has a lot of parallells to Feminism. Both have incredibly damaged reputations as a result of only their crazies getting any attention, and both won their big battles and are now just struggling to stay relevant.- 115 replies

Just finished reading the judgement. Was an interesting read. So I guess for Criminal Harassment it has to meet 5 criteria 1)The accused has to have engaged in a)following the victim from place to place, b)repeatedly communicating with the victim either directly or indirectly, c)watching their home or place of business, etc. or d)engaging in threatening conduct 2)The victim has to believe they are harassed 3)The harasser has to a) know he is harassing, or b)know what he's doing carries the risk of harassment, but does it anyway 4)The victim needs to fear for her safety 5)The victim's fear needs to be reasonable. In the case of Guthrie, it met 1b, 2, 3b, and 4, but didn't meet 5, so was dismissed, and in the case of Reily it met 1b, 2, 3a, but didn't meet 4, so was dismissed. The two charges were very different. He actively harassed Reily, calling her names while she repeatedly asked him to stop. Guthrie believed she should have control of how twitter should be used, and saw his disagreement as harassment, and that he didn't have the right to defend himself. Seriously, her witness testimony she says to the defence that she didn't believe he had the right to defend himself on twitter. She also admitted to providing tweets that accused GAE of being a paedophile to the police while knowing the person who he had the interaction with was over 18 and was setting him up, but didn't believe that was purposefully damaging to him. Reily was a victim of a douche, Guthrie is a deluded psycho. Defence Submissions Judgement- 115 replies

Good and evil are essential parts of morality

I'm curious if Bernie is getting any sort of boost from refusing to engage in negative politics. Thats believed to be what drove Trudeau to victory in Canada. Rather than launch his own attack campaign he took all the Conservative attacks, and turned them around into positive things, and people responded to it.

A nice ripe deep red pepper is delicious raw. Sweet and refreshing. Not so much on pizza.

And if the toppings are on top of the cheese, you're making it wrong. The cheese locks the toppings onto the pizza. Freaking Dominos putting the cheese on the bottom.

Captain Boomerang was historically my favourite. Too bad they stripped him of any little bit of blue and didn't show him with any boomerangs so I didn't realize it was Captain Boomerang until I focused on the still shot.

Gadot started working out for the role like a year ago. My guess is she's just not built to put on mass. Some people aren't.- 16 replies

Supposedly in the UK if a petition hits a certain number of people parliament has to debate the topic. This is one of those.

First look at Flash and Cyborg from Justice League. Aquaman is a full on Klingon.

How did that kid survive for 200 years with no food or oxygen? Ghouls don't age, but they still have to eat and breathe.

This passed weekend Consortium was free to own on Steam to promote it too. It had been on my wishlist for a while to so that was nice

I don't get the Ubihate. I've enjoyed pretty much every Ubi game I've played. Then again I've never played a NEW ubisoft game. I always play them years later after they've stopped patching.

Is ISIS controlled oil factored into world oil prices though, since it isn't traded legally?

Why is this concerning? Cut off their money supply, cripple them. Seems like sound strategy. Probably why Russia did it in the first week they started attacking ISIS.

One thing I don't understand, Cruz was born in Canada, I thought you had to be born in the US to run for president.

I think its funny that we had our longest election in like 100 years, not quite 4 months long, and everyone complained it was too long. I can't even imagine having one like a year and a half long.

This trailer made me very interested in a game I had no interest in at all.
