RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS THREAD!, just a dumping ground
It would be awesome if Steam had an optional ~$60 a month subscription thing that allowed you to play any game on Steam.

Mafia II
A demo should be coming as well.

Books
Isn't Best Served Cold supposed to be a seuqel/prequel to the First Law Trilogy? It might be better if you have already read those. In related news, I'm reading The Blade Itself bz Joe Abercrombie and it's pretty interesting so far.

It's kind of tricky, but I think I used the roof "ridges" for cover and killed them with the nano rifle.

Sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.

That's NMA in a nutshell.

So their secret evil plan was to link Battle.net to Facebook? I guess I was expecting something more... exciting? evil?

They want out of the gaming business and into the bright shiny future of personalized advertising and/or selling information?

Kotick is actually a supertroll and he wants to eliminate all competition?

I guess we will find out about the "shady dealings" if that ever happens then.

It was obviously part of a larger conspiracy to expose all our secret identities and establish new world order.

Sure, but I doubt it's big enough for the EU Competition Commission to care about. Plus, the EU market isn't exactly "global"

It's still to be seen if they really need Infinity Ward, or if Treyarch and the IP is enough to make the same money. Also, from what I understood of the whole debacle, it was far from one-sided. Not that I blame Infinity Ward for wanting to do their own thing, but it wasn't evil Kotick firing them for kicks either. I was under the impression that RealID was at least mostly Blizzard's doing. Why would Activision care about Blizzard's WoW forums?

You're still restricted to iTunes if you have an iPod/iPhone, the DRM-d music was never a monopoly issue. It's funny to see you guys complain about Steamworks while GAF rejoices that they can buy the retail collectors edition and then add the game to Steam as well. As for Steam's monopoly, I'm sure one of the numerous law people here can help us with that

Even Activision knows that letting Blizzard lay it's golden eggs is better for business and continue exploiting their own franchises and customers.

Right after iTunes gets one...

That's not what I'm saying at all. My point was that, they'll stick with what works for Starcraft. If they want to try something new, they won't be using one of their old IPs as a guinea pig, but will instead make a new one. I'm not defending anyone, just speculating on Blizzards modus operandi. It's not so much as when to innovate and when not to, but just the way Blizzard works and they continue to make good games.

I liked Wolfenstein, but Singularity doesn't really excite me in the least. At least they're still around.

Yes, disregard my comment and pile on Raven for making mediocre Shooters when they should be making cool stuff like Heretic(making superior spin-offs of successful games) or the next Jedi Knight
-
What are you playing now
Starcraft doesn't really lend itself for something crazy like a Supreme Commander style map or Company of Heroes style level design. I'm glad they're sticking with what works. If they'll innovate, it'll be with a new IP.

Dragon Age 2
It's not even full HD and look at all those low-res textures. They should make more screenshots from the isometric camera.

You mean this chart?

Dragon Age 2
Save some time and copy paste the previous Volo vs. the world discussion :D That would be cheating. Nah, though I believe that calling them one of the most creative developer in the industry is greatly exaggerating. I shouldn't have to remind you who you're dealing with here.

Rewatching the Bioshock review, he just said it was very easy compared to System Shock 2. I guess I just mentally added things to it :/
