  1. I really really hope that Obsidian doesn't try to do any kind of online architecture beyond the bare minimum, considering their track record. I would guess that they will use Xbox Live for 360, Playstation Network for PS3 and Steam(?) for the PC.
  2. Thanks for the laughs, man.
  3. Does every good game need a sequel?
  4. You could also have someone else get the Steam version and play on their computer.
  5. For me, F:NV was a slam dunk, one game I was really looking forward to. But hey, we can't always have what we want, and to me Steam is a price I'm not willing to pay. That's too bad. Maybe when the game is out and you see all the other kids having fun with it, you'll come over to the dark side.
  6. Nothing personal intended, but... See, this is the thing which really annoys me about these arguments. Nobody wants FNV not to be available on Steam at all. All that is wanted is that it isn't available only on Steam. Given that, I'm always tempted to reply to "Steam is awesome" posts by asking: OK, but do you like it so much that you think everyone on PC should be forced to use it? If your answer is no then your defence of Steam is irrelevant. If it's yes then- as Purkake would put it- fanbois_gonna_fan_.gif Hey, I would use an actual gif!
  7. Not available to me, unemployed, and the bank has previously said they don't have such a thing. (Roughly 5 months ago) That's very sad, but it is an option for most people.
  8. Nice effects, but needs a competent narrator. Speaking of fan films, the are awesome.
  9. The credit card thing is a non-issue, just use a single-use credit card, which you can get from your bank.
  10. Empire: Total War is super extra broken, plus the earlier Total Wars have some pretty awesome mods at this point. Go get some awesome (and cheap) indie games instead of wasting money on buggy stuff. As for violations of privacy, even the Obsidian board reserves the right to use some of your submitted information for a variety of different things.
  11. Obviously they track your purchases, as does every other online store including Amazon, NewEgg and what have you. Welcome to the present. I'd get rid of any credit cards and get an IR hat if I wanted to remain anonymous these days.
  12. Did you miss the part where the survey is voluntary?
  13. I don't understand why a book series that revolves around unique characters that get killed off frequently and political conspiracy would be a good fit for an RTS. Better than a FPS or a racing game.
  14. Off-topic much?
  15. Crazy people... Allowing to spy on them, because it's convenient? lol... and they are crying loud how communism is depriving another people of their human rights... It's voluntary, get a grip man.
  16. Wow, the New Vegas talk is going to be pretty sparse if only ~4 people get the game here.
  17. I'd be up for for a cover-based arrow shooter.
  18. But what would you be shooting? Arrows and magic?
  19. A truly shocking development on the Resident Evil front. Will it perhaps feature some form of undead enemies that may or may not be wielding comically large objects as weapons?
  20. Can't say that I have tried it personally. I do know that you can disable automatic updates and yes you'll have to do it game by game. I was under the impression that only online games required to be up to date to be played, but that's just speculation on my part. I'm sure someone could test it out, though. Forget the power of the physical medium and retail stores, for so much has been forgotten, never to be re-learned. Forget the promise of innovation and free market, for in the grim darkness of the far future there is only Steam.
  21. Always reminds me of this picture:
  22. While I'm sure some ppl are just stubborn like that, I'm not sure how disliking the chance (even if it's not a huge chance) that maybe one day you'll lose access to all those games you paid for is being old-school. So I don't think it's just being 'old school'....I know quite a few much younger than myself who dislike Steam as well. There's also (or at least there was, assume that hasn't changed?) the aspect on Steam where you can't control what patch is applied to the games you buy, since it auto-updates when you login to that game or something. So for me there's also a control freak issue in there, because I don't always want to play the patched version of a game. Cultural I could maybe see...liking to feel like you own something, rather than rent it, and CD/DVD=physical manifestation of ownership. I wasn't implying that it was only that. Also, you can disable auto-patching in the options. If that DVD requires online authentication, it might as well be a shiny coaster.
  23. Here's an article on second hand sales and piracy. The car analogy is somewhat flawed because making each car cost money, giving each individual copy a significant value. On the other hand you can copy data infinitely and perfectly for a negligible cost.
  24. It's a business like every other, the point is to maximize your profits.
