  1. I don't think so. Kotaku will happily post everything they find, but I don't find it implausible. EDIT: There is a lot of conflicting information. The Game Informer article says that you are a private investigator searching for missing girls 7 years after Bioshock. Then the 2K community manager says that this just a rumor and not the real plot...
  2. Kotaku posts further details about Bioshock 2: That sounds lame as hell. Did they learn nothing from the first game?
  3. For sure, they should pack that stuff in with Ninja Gaiden: Dragon Sword and Geometry Wars.
  4. So what are you considering? I haven't heard anything about Age of Empires. If you want strategy without anime stuff, get Advance Wars. There's also Theme Park DS and Sim City DS. Also, the Castlevanias are pretty good and if you want crazy ADD action, get Geometry Wars,
  5. Metroid is so-so, but FPSs just don't work with the stylus. You can either look around or press the buttons, not both at once. It's horribly clumsy. If you don't like any of the genres that I have suggested, why not got with classics like The New Super Mario Bros and Mario Kart DS? They are really good. As for homebrew, System Shock isn't unfortunately ported. Descent, Doom 1/2, Quake 1, however are along with a great NES and a pretty decent SNES emulators and even ScummVM.
  6. Hilarity would undoubtedly ensue.
  7. Advance Wars is a bit anime-ish, but not overly so. If JRPGs are out, I'd highly recommend Hotel Dusk. The film noir presentation and story are really good. It also utilizes the DS's every feature to make some innovating puzzles AND it has dialog choices.
  8. I'm pumped, thanks!
  9. I'm not seeing anything on their forums. How did you come to possess this awesome information?
  10. Yeah, it's ok. I don't think first person shooter-y games work all that well on the DS, though. Chrono Trigger is one of the best JRPGs(right after Tales of Phantasia and Earthbound) on the SNES, it has a great story with time traveling and multiple endings(12+ IIRC). If you haven't played it and have any desire to play JRPGs, get it NOW!
  11. Back that truck up! Purgatorio demo is coming out? I want some of that Planescape goodness NOW
  12. Keep it on the low-low, but apparently FOX has put the next episode online ahead of schedule. Try it if you're in the US. From the comments it seems that the episode is pretty good.
  13. I would recommend Advance Wars(both of them), Fire Emblem, Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics A2 if you like turn-based strategy games. It's a great genre for a portable system. If you want to really get your money's worth try some of the longer RPGs like Final Fantasy III, IV or Chrono Trigger. The DS also has some great adventure games like Hotel Dusk and the Phonenix Wright series.
  14. If you have a vehicle you can escape pretty easily or just snipe them from your car/tank also there are so many awesome special encounters.
  15. I think they ported Gauntlet... Porting more old DOS games would be pretty awesome.
  16. Sure, for some reason I finished the whole game. I guess it wasn't all that long. I remember the ship being disorienting, dark with glowy stuff and lots of enemies. Maybe I was too frustrated with the design to notice all the awesome graphics, but it doesn't really stand out for me. Seeing the mountain break apart was kind of cool, but it was just a background thing. EDIT: And what the hell was up with the one-way air ducts? I also remember having to punch the enemies because I ran out of ammo for ALL of my weapons...
  17. Actually, that's exactly what I think they're doing. It would be really inefficient to rewrite the engine from scratch, so what I imagine they're doing is "broaden" the Crytek engine so it'll be possible to squeeze it into the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. Of course, they'll probably work on the other end too (the upper end, for the Bokishi types), but I suspect the main difference will be the cross platform feature. Ok, crisis averted Speaking of Crysis, I never got the "best graphics ever" thing. Sure it was nice, but it wasn't any more breathtaking or prettier than any other current shooter. I didn't have everything maxed out, but still. I'd take Prince of Persia's stylized look over any "highly realistic" look.
  18. The real fun came from the critical failures.
  19. It didn't feel like a full-on strategy game, but I feel that the RPG aspects made up for it.
  20. I can understand that, it's great that they are keeping up with the times. The problem seems to be that many companies are making new engines every year and many of them aren't even good. Why are so many companies still making new engines for every game they make? Wouldn't it be better to make a solid engine like Source and use it for ~5 years and then make another one? The only games out now using Cryengine 2 are Crysis and Crysis: Warhead, there's a bunch of games coming for it in the future. Why not improve the current engine instead of jumping straight to CryEngine 3?
  21. Considering the current economical situation and the fact that most games cost way too much to make, I don't think that making a new engine every year is going to help anyone. Didn't they already admit that Crysis didn't do all that well because people didn't have the hardware for it? Games using the Source engine have sold pretty well and while constantly updated, the engine is from 2003/04. It does fantastic facial animations among other things. All these new engines have so many filters on them for "realism" that you can't even see all the great physics and whatever else they put in there. The world isn't brown-gray, grainy, bloomy and blurry when I go outside, it's actually pretty colorful and non-blurry. Just because you can, doesn't mean that you should
  22. Tactics get's a bad rap, as a tactical strategy game it's pretty fun. It's clearly not a Fallout 1/2-type RPG, so they shouldn't be compared on that level. Sure the story was pretty bad, but it was never really about the story. I always wanted to start out as a Deathclaw, is this possible?
  23. I hate it when enemies respawn and cleared out places don't stay clear. It's like some kind of primal fear, I just can't deal with the fact that I can't retreat to safety. That kind of stuff makes me want to break things. I'm enjoy the random placement, but respawning is a no-no.
  24. Man, you just don't mess with System Shock 'round these parts. Not that I disagree with you, it's just funny.
  25. I believe that I already mentioned Good Old Games which just happens to have Fallout Tactics.
