  1. I was kidding, BTW. Most of the decent JRPGs have moved to the DS and some to the PSP as well. Adding a ton of graphics and stuff doesn't really make them all that much better. I think going portable was a great idea. I played some JRPG-ish stuff back in the day as well, things like Lufia II, Tales of Phantasia, Chrono Trigger, Terranigma and Earthbound(they also translated Mother 3, but I haven't played that yet).
  2. I see that you are a bunch of worthless JRPG sympathizers. Death to JRPGs!
  3. When did SEGA start publishing Korean MMOs?
  4. An approach which worked very well in Deus Ex. SO it's hardly a bad thing. Invisible War, which allowed a sex choice in character creation was a massively inferior game, so there's really no correlation that such a choice makes a game better. Nobody is saying it makes the game better, people are arguing that it would make the game more appealing to them. Putting the choice into a crappy game won't make them game any better and the other way around, why should it?
  5. Lost is better, if you haven't already checked that out.
  6. Putting a little extra there won't hurt anyone
  7. I don't think Black Isle is any more recognized than Obsidian these days. The only way to actually bring out the connection would be to name themselves "The guys who made Baldur's Gate 2, Planescape: Torment and Fallout".
  8. Wait, you're not Lord of Flies. Is the trolling infection now?

The space battle effects were kind of weak from time to time. All the explosions and aliens and holographic stuff was top notch. And who doesn't like the awesome gate flush effect that they actually did with a jet engine and a water tank.
  10. For it to be the next DNF, people would actually have to know/care about the game...

Well, his body is going to stay in the shuttle for the foreseeable future, so everything is possible.

I think it was more for the benefit of Chloe's(his daughter who looks like Summer Glau) character. Having him die on-screen and violently has more of an effect than just saying "her father died recently".

Well, he could have died from an awesome morphine overdose instead of slow suffocation.
  14. Better than straight out not publishing it? Theoretically, it depends on who owns the IP.

I agree, the gamer dude should have thought of something.
  16. They didn't finish DNF, so it's not really the same.

Basically it was to , but for an in-universe reason, maybe the touch panel requires an actual finger to touch it like the iPhone touch screen?
  18. You can't actually cancel a game that's already finished. SEGA can choose to not publish it(don't know what the contract actually said). Depending on who owns the IP, Obsidian could go to another publisher. Also, spending money on development and then not even putting it out isn't the smartest business move.
  19. Has anyone seen The Fall(2008)? Is it any good?

Ooh I know, lets debate capital punishment!
  21. If you want strict definitions I suppose it would fall under the purview of marketing instead of customer support for potential customers. As for pre-orders, there's a good reason they are pushed and marketed by publishers. Retailers use pre-order data to determine how many copies to purchase. Poor pre-orders also means the game wont get as much shelf space or retailer advertising. I guess the real joke is that everyone here is pretty far from the audience that they actually want to advertise to. Who cares about the diehard fans? They are going to buy it anyway whenever it comes out.
  22. The game still sucked, though.
  23. The Apple model would be even awesomer, announce it when it's ready and release it in a few weeks after that. @LostStraw, how is it customer support if you are not a customer yet? SEGA gets nothing from preorders, all that money goes to the retailer.
  24. There's also a practical reason, the goal for all for-profit companies is to generate profit. Just like other constructs they don't have to deal with pretty emotions, morals or ethics, just the laws.
  25. I'm pretty sure they don't care about people, period. It's a company after all...
