What are you smoking that the game industry is politically correct? Yeah, sexism is common but even in that area it's more towards distorted "Girl Power" rather then "Damsel in Disress" or "Between Fist and Stove". Now if that action girl would wield broom and wear maids outfit (probably only in Japan these days)

I have to disagree with you there. Her whole shtick was that she was a racist bastard and missed her mother/sister. Her death was blessing on all those poor five races. Her being a racist was nice touch in overly PC (Political Correctness) game industry. Of course aliens make bit easier target then country or color but it's the same effect. Character was nice (probably southen US) WASP stereotype. Best character in ME.

Yeah, I always forget that ME was Xbox360 game first. I'm talking about PC version that had quickslots for abilities and squad member movements. You still needed to pause game if you wanted to use squad members special abilities manually (they used abilities alone too but with braindead AI ).

Yup, me too. Actually since I liked combat mechancis so much in ME, I'm bit worried as they have changed 'em.

Interconnectivity can quickly become nightmare later stages of the project when developers have to cut unfinished or otherwise less then optimal content. Better keep it simple or at least have some type of system that allow content to be cut and still avoid worst continuity issues.

In the demo of Fallout, it was hilarious, though. As Chris Avellone mentioned in a relatively new interview, Van Buren was to have a twist in this scheme. From RPG Designer Hates RPGs

CoD4 probably hit the sweet spot of the current generations of gamers. It's short, almost complitely scripted and relatively fast paced. I didn't like it as much but old skool FPS fans like me don't matter nowadays. I'm sure that sequel will be a huge hit.

BREAKING NEWS: NEW DRAGON AGE GOTY TRAILER
Niten_Ryu replied to Llyranor's topic in Computer and Console
Looks like Bioware and EA found their new segment of players -
While I didn't like most of the guns in Fallout 3, the Fat Man was great. It fit perfectly on 50's nuclear theme. Critical mass needed for fission reaction is not much, if you have pure sample. Something like californium-251 would only need 6kg of material. In Fallout world there's also some type of cold fusion or antimatter devices (to power all energy and plasma weapons) so in theory there's no limit how small nuclear blast is possible.

And where is Tim Cain ? Developing some unknown MMOG at Carbine Studios after Troika crashed and burned. NCsoft ain't doing that well either nowadays and if Timmy still follows his mantra, it's bye bye for the Carbine Studies and possible for NCsoft too.

Unfortunately that is not true for the many casual players. Even with the help of save/load, they get frustrated fast if they can't beat some encounter that's too difficult for 'em. They'll quit the game and won't even try to finish it. Thus they don't recommend game to their friends (nor buy the possible sequel) and that'll lead to lost sales.

Haha... Thiaf ! Hopefully we see some Rouges too

That's how it should be in these days. Very easy difficulty (weak enemies, plenty of ammo and healthpacks) for the casual majority. Higher in-game difficulty levels and mods for us more hardcore players.

I checked some of the old trailers of various games in order to find something as crappy as this one. Well, is about same caliber. -
BREAKING NEWS: NEW DRAGON AGE GOTY TRAILER

Music was horrible. Video reminded me of some of the lower quality WoW fanfiction movies. Actually this movie was worse as framerate of the game seem to be choppy as hell and it makes already blocky characters look even worse. Hopefully movie was made by some unknown alpha/beta tester and not by anyone at Bioware or EA. -
Obsidian making Fallout: New Vegas
Niten_Ryu replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
Yes. There's absolutely no way to create game that would make oldskool fans happy. Fans who bothered to waste 12+ years on various boards discussing what kind of game would be faithful to original Fallout. -
Breaking: Duke Nukem dev 3D Realms closes it's doors!
Niten_Ryu replied to Morgoth's topic in Computer and Console
Grats 3drealms. You managed to leech money for 12 years. There's lesson somewhere in there but in computer games biz it's already forgotten -
I've never heard of Widescreen Games company. From Mobygames

While I'd like to RP internet tough guy, I have to admit that I'm worried. Just before the last new year, I got thru seasonal influenza type A H3N2 variant. I got really high fever for about the week and lungs so full of fluids that I couldn't stop coughing for 2 weeks. Original version back in late 60's killed about 34000 people in US alone. Worst part of this is that it was the mildest pandemic in recent history and it was still that deadly. This new swine flu seem to be as bad as (or even worse) then 1918's Type A H1N1 influenza. Both are most deadly in my age group. People throw fatality % around like it's nothing but when you, your siblings and your friends are just in the middle of the danger zone, thing start to get serious fast. Even if you get thru from first wave, pandemic will do at least few additional waves around the world. 1918 swine flu killed more then First World War. By some sources it killed more then Second World War. It might have killed more then the Black Death. World population is now over 6.7 billion so this new swine flu has potetial to be most lethal pandemic ever in the human history.

Wow... amazingly strong deja-vu feeling. I better stay away from the hype. Well, few words. I don't like gamebryo engine but if that's Obsidians only realistic option, please put extra work on animations. Especially non-verbal communication (eye and lid movement, hands while explaining something, subtle changes in face expressing mood ect ect).
-
I have to disagree as well. First run was worst out of three I've played.
-
I'd probably watch game award shows if various game news sites would directly link to live streams or videos. I'm certainly not going to bother searching 'em.
-
Damn those pics look nice. Best part of this game have been various puzzles on their messageboard. I have to admit that I just about given up hope after Age of Conan fiasco but setting is still interesting enough to at least try the beta.

Animations in general should get more resources in modern game development. Too many developers focus on adding latest shaders or other graphical blizz but at the same time animations are like from 10 years ago.

Empire TW is a buggy mess but major bugs don't bother me much. Maybe it's sign that I've played PC games too long and have way too high tolerance for bugs Worst gameplay bug has to be the fact that enemies don't use ships to move troops. This means you only need about 3 full stacks at max in any point of the game, as you can leave most of your land undefended. This leads to huge gold reserves and thus make the whole game easier. In my latest campaign, world domination vh / vh, by the year 1745 I had reach the target of 40 areas. I still can't do naval battes, unless I have huge advantage but I haven't lost land battle in long time. Especially after you get "Fire by Rank", as it's so powerful that it should have been base talent for all.
