Indeed. Either one of the Global Mods or NWN2 forum mods has to move it. Or the admin. But I'm powerless here.

You don't need a religion to be good. Religion can offer a lot more than moral guidelines, but there are a lot of religious folks who are far from good and yet proclaim themselves good (insert faith here). There's a lot of intolerance, hatred and such amongst religious people, all who claim it's the will of their god and such. There are those who loudly proclaim their faith to one end or another. Eldar's take on it as a Christian, and my take on it as an agnostic, illustrate what I think is what the tenets of that faith truly are. You don't need religion to be good, but likewise religion doesn't excuse you from being bad.

Earlier today! There are a few new mods about (crazy.joe and Adria Teksuni); Guildmaster contacted me asking if I'd be interested as my name had apparently been suggested. I accepted. Now I am the Cruel And Viscious Overlord of General Banter.

I'm not a religious person, but that's not to say I do not believe in any faith, I just lack, for want of a better word, faith. There's also elements of Christianity (and other religions) that I simply cannot reconcile myself with. Whether those elements are in the religious texts or espoused by many followers, I'm not sure. However, the comments I've plucked out of your post I agree with 100%. I believe that is the core intent of Christianity, and, given my limited knowledge of the faith, think it's how Christians "should" act, that such actions are very much in the spirit of the faith. My parents, whom are Anglican, act in the same way. Show, or lead, by example, not by dictating dogma and doctrine. It's very much a situation of the old "do unto others..." adage, which I try to adhere to, though don't always succeed.

A couple of years ago, there was a theatrical reading of The Odyssey at the local festival. A fellow who's name I forget, apparently a noted classicist and translator of Homer, read, by way of introduction for the performance, a segment of The Odyssey in the ancient Greek. What a fantastic sounding language! I had never heard it before, and it was incredible to listen to.

Um. This is for Way Off Topic...

Ancient Greek is a language, and so is Latin. Just because no-one speaks it today doesn't mean it's not a valid language. Or do you mean that you can read and translate, but not actually vocalise the languages properly? I took German way back in high school. Oddly, I could speak it very well but I didn't always know what I was saying, nor was a very adept at translating or writing in the language. It's a strange language, I found. I'd hate to actually have to learn to speak English though. What a nightmare learning it must be.

Yeah, I got my shots and everything.

Yep. Saw that earlier today, completely forgot to post it. Like the article says, anyone pre-disposed to making an extravagent claim warrants serious doubt. Still. aliens or no, I would be curious to see if more light can be shed on the indicent. As a natural phenomenon (eg exploding asteroid), it's very interesting, and certainly deserves investigation.

I don't know if it's just that I have wonky settings and can't find the colour controls, of if it's the board itself, but my PM Inbox has a white background and the text is in light grey, so I can't actually see the text unless I highlight it with the mouse. Can this be fixed, either through an adjustment control on my end, or does the board itself control the colours?

Good luck to you, Eldar. I'm sure you'll do very well. That question regarding Christian experience is a bit off-putting, as I dislike religious agendas in education. But, I know you to be a fair-minded, balanced, kind and intelligent individual, which is a lot more than I can say for some Christians I've experienced. I suspect you'd bring the core beliefs of good-will from your faith to your teachings, not blinkered ideology. I hope your office-mates bathe regularly.

I'm sure NWN2 will have a much better story than the original; Obsidian have some veteran developers and writers in their ranks. As for WOTC, they do have a pretty substantial say in the content, rules adaptations and so forth. BIS had a lot of problems with WOTC and IWD2.

Got that right. What'd Ockham know, anyways? Must have been a very dull person with no sense of imagination.

Sometimes games have a writer dedicated to particular areas, and they write the story for their areas, making sure it fits in the theme and arc of the main storyline. One writer is not always responsible for the entire game. It probably depends on what resources are available in terms of money and staff. Each lead designer probably has his own preferred way of working, as well.

A whole new respect for devs
Phosphor replied to Product of the Cosmos's topic in Developers' Corner
It does really surprise me what developers are able to do, and what they have to do, to make games. There's a lot of tired, tedious, redundant work involved, and it's definately not all fun and games. Of course, programmers are a strange bunch and find fun in things that would send me to an asylum. -
An exploding meteor, comet or asteroid is too logical. It has to be aliens
-
*strokes chin thoughfully* Yes... yes, that could very well be. No doubt trying to supercharge a Lada defies all laws of space-time physics.
-
How so? The boards have suddenly become much more populous as of late, and will only continue to be more so as NWN2's development moves ahead. Obsidian have already had to change servers once to handle the load. I suspect that with the large influx of posts, they've got to crack down on the superfluous stuff more heavily now in order to maintain board functionality.

Well, that's what I thought too. But from records of the time, the explosion was closer to the surface, so that doesn't fit the Borg theory.

The Tunguska event has always been a mystery; a massive explosion almost a century ago in an isolated part of Russia. Could it have been the destruction of an atomic-powered alien ship? Russian Researchers Say Debris of Alien Spaceship found in Siberia Members of a special expedition researching the site of the famous Tunguska meteorite fall have claimed they had discovered parts of an extraterrestrial device. The expedition, organized by the Siberian Public State Foundation

Yeah, right alongside Saved By The Bell, Alf and Perfect Strangers.

Well, Farscape had two main characters who were muppets (Dominar Rygel XVI and Pilot)... Henson Productions were behind Farscape, and the puppet work was phenomenal.

I've nothing against Russia. I think Putin is a bit of a jerk, and it's not a country in great shape socially or economically, so it must be hard to live there. The country has a fascinating history, which lends an air of depression to the country, given it's current state. Once so rich and powerful, and now.. not so much.
-
Yeah, I know what you mean. But I'd think I'd be missing out on a lot more by not seeing it at all. I've heard people question the point in watching Farscape, since it was cancelled, and I can't imagine not ever watching that through in it's entirety. Another to add to the cancelled-too-early list - Oz.

The series is available on DVD; see if you can rent it somewhere. The show is well worth watching, and easily the best thing Whedon has done.
