hitchhiker's guide, the 2005 movie.
It was, and is, a great loss. I saw Adams read when he was promoting Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (my copy is signed!), and it was tremendous. He of course read from Hitchhiker's, and his discussion was hilarious. He also read from The Meaning Of Liff which is a great "dictionary", too. He was definately one of a kind. Don't forget your towel.

If it makes you feel any better, Mos Def has been acting professionally a lot longer than he's been rapping. That doesn't really, no. The main reason I'm not positive about this film is that it's so American-centric. The book is so abundantlty British in it's language, tone, humour, etc. I mean, you can't read it without adopting some faux British accent in your head. As an American film, I just can't see it working.

The Office guy is playing Arthur. There are a few British actors, but mostly in smaller roles (Slartibartfast, Prosser, Vogon Captain). The big roles are Americans.

I've been following it for a while and I am panicking. It's an American-centric film with a rapper as Ford Prefect. Can it be any worse?

Free Ipod.
You're defending an organisation that requires you to have a credit card to verify your identity? Why do the SCAM!! alerts not go off in your head? As for being in the BBB, that means nothing. As long as there are not any convicted complaints against you, you can be listed with the BBB. Cosmo, I find it strange. You seem rather "counter-culture" yet wholly buy into this sort of corporate scheming.

The squares themselves. I think the letters are the same as well, though.

The logo is good. Looks more old Star Wars than the logos from the last two films. The title is cheesey, but not as bad as Attack Of The Clones, but then SW titles have always been pretty hokey. No, but close - "A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To Coruscant".

Breast implants for Army recruits
The other aspect of this new perq is certainly a drive to get people to join the army. The military seems to be a bit short these days, so free plastic surgery is certainly a nice incentive (ie bribe) to get new recruits.

Breast implants for Army recruits
You have to look at in another way as well, Cosmo. Yes, plastic surgery is often used by the vain just trying to look better, but a lot of people use it for corrective procedures or procedures to make life a bit easier. Breast reduction for example. Health insurance usually will only cover that if the woman's condition is extreme, but even just large breasts cause major back and shoulder problems. Reduction can alleviate that, make it easier for the woman to walk and breathe, but costs a fortune. That's just one example. Having it as a military perq is pretty great. I'm all for it, actually. It's an excellent idea.

Breast implants for Army recruits
On a more serious note, though, it's a fantastic perq to have. Plastic surgery is so expensive, and sometimes a person needs it, but doesn't quite need it enough for insurance or health plans to pay for it. I wonder though if the army surgeons are committed to doing a good, skillful job or if it's more utlitarian and they don't care about scarring and aesthetics as long as the process is done.

Most suprising movie ever?
Newfoundland is a world unto itself. Back on topic.. Daredevil was surprisingly poor. There was some good stuff, but overall it wasn't great, or even all that good. Very mediocre.

Nfld. mayor wants icebergs protected Last Updated Thu, 22 Jul 2004 08:21:19 EDT BONAVISTA, NFLD. - The mayor of a small town in Newfoundland wants the provincial government to come up with ways to protect icebergs, saying they're a valuable tourism resource. Bonavista Mayor Betty Fitzgerald said tourists flooded to the town recently to see a large iceberg that had grounded itself offshore. They left prematurely when a crew from the Canadian Iceberg Vodka Corp. took a boat out to the site and began cutting chunks off the iceberg to use in its products, said Fitzgerald. "It was turning people off, and they were leaving because they thought it was awful that iceberg was being harvested," the mayor said. Fitzgerald complained to several government departments and to the RCMP. There's no law to prevent such harvesting, but the company eventually stopped taking ice from the iceberg on a voluntary basis. Dave Hood, a vice-president with Canadian Iceberg Vodka, said the iceberg was 13 kilometres offshore. "Does that really justify it as being within a tourist area? I don't know," said Hood. The Canadian Iceberg Vodka Corp. markets its vodka as being super-pure because it's made with pristine water from 12,000-year-old icebergs. Fitzgerald's iceberg protection campaign comes on the heels of a move to protect other inanimate objects that appeal to tourists visiting Newfoundland and Labrador. Earlier this week, the town council in Cow Head on the island's Northern Peninsula passed a bylaw forbidding the removal of any material from the local beach, including small rocks. Mayor Pat Bavis said the move was necessary because interesting rocks, including fossils and aboriginal artifacts, are part of what makes the beach attractive to tourists. "If we lose it, it's not a renewable resource that we are going to get back," he said.

I severely dislike Julia Roberts. One of the most over-rated actresses out there, I think. Her part in my aforementioned Ocean's Eleven was a low point in the film. Looks like she'll be a major character in the sequel, unfortunately. As for Meg Ryan I have no opinion as I don't think I've ever noticed her, apart from the occasional photograph here and there. Nicole Kidman is another up there on my list of irritating actresses, mainly because she's everywhere more than her acting ability (which is more or less competent). I think she should take a holiday for a few years and stop trying to be in every film made.

We do, but they always get stolen by American tourists.

Most suprising movie ever?
Yeah. I expected something decent (for some reason) and wound up completely writing it off. Pitch Black is excellent. I recently watched it again, kind of expecting that I wouldn't like it as much as the first viewing, and it was even better. Eldar, why won't your wife watch it?

What are your favorite Star Wars parodies?
Well, we have to keep tabs on each other so when The Plan is activated, we all know where each other are. Will make things run more smoothly.

He's a Canadian hero and an exemplar of our national identity. Also the reason we don't need a big military. If anyone invades, we just send him with his mad Jedi skillz to wipe out the enemy.
