  1. Holy Smoke Enoch, your parents are really in the wars lately. Sorry to hear.
  2. I also tend to agree with this sentiment. Why link it with the Torment IP if you can't have any association to it? As much as I wish I'd say something that smart occasionally, I think you're misquoting me there Noooooooooo, I want everyone to see how clever you are Its my fault, I deleted the wrong quotes and was too lazy to fix it. But my point is I agree with the above statements

  4. I don't agree that Israel doesn't have strong home grown industries. They are renowned for developing security and cryptology technologies and software. They also have a strong agriculture sector, in fact some of there processes have been exported to African countries to help with there farming. Edit: I misunderstood your post, you are saying that Israel does have strong internal industries
  5. Don't worry I know the context you meant when you used the word extreme. That photo is probably apt, its looks like its a picture from the First World War and shows the utter devastation from battle in no-mans land which was the disputed territory between the Germans and the English\French trench lines. I am sure that is how he is feeling Those forums have some cute cat pictures, I like the "cat playing BG:EE"
  6. I know you were looking forward to playing BG:EE, so I am sorry you were disappointed. But you should be more like me, I never play any game until the first patch is released. That way I am generally happy with the stability of my games. I am not trying to make you feel worse, its just something to consider for next time? " Extreme Fan" , I like it I'll get your input on BG:EE around Mods and relevant changes I need to make for the most stable gaming experience when I purchase this game. But I am going to wait till the first official patch gets released.
  7. Personally I am glad you are defending the game as I want to purchase it, I never played BG1, and its good to see some positive feedback that is factual. But you never answered my question. You seem to know loads about the game, are you a committed fan or some sort of developer?
  8. Hi AGX I like you and I appreciate your input on various topics so please don't take offense at what I am about to say below. I find people that criticize grammar and spelling on a gaming forum annoying, supercilious and there critique irrelevant. The main reasons for this are Are all your posts grammatically perfect every time you say something? They need to be if you are going to point out mistakes in others I always ask "can I understand what someone is saying in the post". This is surly the most important point in any post. This is not an English exam and we shouldn't be judged on grammar. Finally English isn't everyones first language so to be critical on someones grammar and spelling is just petulant and unhelpful to the purpose of what a forum is, that purpose being discussion. I think it's important that if you want to make a good impression in the English speaking world, it's important to get grammar, syntax and punctuation correctly. If you were applying for a job with an American or English company it could make a real difference! I value your contributions to the forums so I want to help you be the best you can be at the (current) global tongue. Until Mandarin takes over. In which case I will rely on my half-chinese cousins to do all my talking for me. Also, movies! Rewatched The City of Lost Children. Not exactly labyrinth, but I was in love with Miette when I saw it as a child (we're the same age, the actress and I, don't get any funny ideas.) Still a great movie. Thanks AGX, I didn't realize you cared about my career. It would be great to work for an American company. But what would I do about my current job as I work for a global American company?
  9. Nice, its always a feeling of immense achievement when hard work and long hours pays off for tenders or business prospects. Congrats
  10. Boots of Speed does make it more than tolerable, generally...but that doesn't really help unless you're playing solo, because you'll have to wait for everyone else to catch up to the character with the Boots of Speed regardless. Always made Boots of Speed worthless in my estimation. Especially considering it doesn't add the full haste effect, (the bonus attack per round), but just increases movement speed. Bart you seem to know loads about the BG series, is that because you are a committed fan or some kind of developer. I hope you don't me asking its just that I am finding your insight into the game interesting.
  11. Nope I used my spellcheck, so I assumed its all right
  12. Nice post, you make some sobering and thought provoking points. But I have to honest, I still have fun with almost every game I play. Thats not to say I don't miss the likes of BG2. Thats why I am supporting initiatives like PE. But I don't think the new genre of games are worthless.
  13. You'll have to forgive me, for I was wrong...but then again, so were you. :D I had forgotten how *truly* slow BG1 walkspeeds were. But, similarly, you forgot how fast BG2 walkspeeds were. Time Test: (From Candlekeep Inn door to the steps up to the Temple of Oghma at 30FPS for each game; from the click to the moment the character gets there, as well as making sure the character doesn't bump into any patrolling guards) BG1: 31-32 seconds BG2: 20-21 seconds BG:EE: 25-26 seconds Looks like they went smack in between the two speeds. I recorded the results via Fraps, but don't have the inclination to upload the videos right now. Maybe in a little bit. Still wish they would've just systemically upped the speeds of everything. If creatures went at speed 5, they should've went at 10. If they went at speed 4, they should've went at 8 or 9, (probably 9, to maintain balance for slower creatures). Et cetera. But that's just me. I feel as though BG2 walkspeeds are still too slow at default FPS - at 40-45, it's the best, IMO. I have no patience for walking around. Are you sure its not fast because your characters aren't wearing Boots of Speed? Thats probably the reason....
  14. Hi Nep Are you saying since Wednesday you have only slept 5 hours !!! It sounds like a good party, what have you been doing if I may ask Nah, 2, 4, 5, 5, 3 hours, so a total of 19 since wednesday. Hardly the stuff of legends, but enough for a pretty cool raccoon look. First, office xmas party (on the day I heard the grade thing), since then, polishing my reply to the faculty, either awake or in my sleep. Sent it today, so hopefully will get some sleep tonight. Have thu (independence day) and fri off, so otherwise ok. Hi Nep Are you saying since Wednesday you have only slept 5 hours !!! 15. I also agree that the GB reviews are generally balanced, helpful and objective.

  18. Gorth are you originally from the Scandinavian countries?
  19. You mean people over the age of 60 eat rotten fish (in Norway too, btw). Every country has at least one delicacy that the rest of the world finds disgusting. And being the 3rd largest exporter of pop and rock music in the world, it can't all be "crap", right? Don't bother to answer, it's 100% subjective anyway. To answer BruceVC's question (now that I've had my 6th cup of coffee and is beginning to feel like a human being again), MY problem with the Nordic model, or at least with the Swedish "folkhemmet", is that it is so socialized, so focused on "equality", that individual liberties are being suppressed. Not in a deliberate, top-down authoritarian way, but from the bottom-up. While we may appear to be very individualistic (everyone under the age of 30 seems to be part of some more or less extreme sub-culture, Stockholm is the most tattooed city in the world [per capita], etc.), it's all just an illusion. Our Lutheran and Social Democratic heritage has given rise to a cultural phenomenon called the "Law of Jante": This "Law of Jante" is pretty much the bedrock of Scandinavian culture, and have thus had a great impact on the Nordic model. We may not have governments that enforce uniformity with violence (even if they've made extensive use of social engineering in the past), but this way of thinking is so deep-seated in our culture that we basically enforce it ourselves through peer pressure. This means that there's usually only room for one school of thought in any discipline. Criticize the dominant school and you run the risk of getting shunned by your peers. Say something that isn't considered politically correct, and you'll never hear the end of it. No one will stop you from doing it, and there won't be any legal ramifications (unless you break the hate speech law), but you can be damn sure that it will have consequences. As a result, income taxes on the rich are extremely high. I'm personally in favor of high income taxes, but in Sweden, they are so high that most people who are successful or lucky enough to become truly wealthy choose to move abroad. It's not only about the redistribution of wealth, it's also about "How dare you make more money than us?! You think you're something special, just because you had a few hit singles? Huh? You think you're better than us?" There is no such thing as Gifted or Talented Education. If you even suggest that one child might be smarter than the majority of children his/her age and deserves the right to be challenged instead of being held back, you might as well carve a swastika into your forehead because apparently you've just admitted to being pro-eugenics (which is equated with being a neo-fascist). But you have to get used to being called a "neo-fascist" and "racist" anyway, because those are our favorite straw men. I originally listed more examples (mostly about the social welfare system and about how easy it is to exploit), but realized that I was just ranting, so I deleted them. Edit: I know that I came across as extremely negative. That wasn't my intent. But I think the lesson is this: Equality and Individual Liberty are two ends of one scale. You can't have complete equality without giving up on freedom, and vice versa. People who think otherwise are just kidding themselves. There is no Utopian state. Holy Smoke, that was one of the most interesting posts I have ever read about another country in ages. Thanks for sharing. I don't think you are coming across as negative, you are explaining your perspective and its been very informative. I wonder if other people on these forums from the Scandinavian countries feel the same as you do about the Scandinavian economic model?
  20. Wow, the fact that you spent time creating these stories is impressive. Keep it up and let us know when you are finished so those interested can read them, if you want?
  21. Thats an informative post. You highlighted what I have read, that taxes are high in the Scandinavian countries. But your education, public health and government services are of a very high quality. So I think that high taxes seems to work in your countries as the quality of life is good? Oh and the blondes are amazing !!!
  22. LadyCrimson had played it, check the link below on this thread. I have been looking forward to this game for a while and will get it after some more reviews http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/62509-what-are-you-playing-now/page__st__100
  23. Interesting, nice find. I'll be watching this one. I have a confession to make and I hope I don't get judged too harshly, but I haven't played PS:T yet But I have bought it on GOG so its just a matter of time
  24. I watched Straw Dogs last night, excellent movie 8/10. Its about a New York screenwriter who go's with his actress wife back to her hometown in the deep South. Her southern community is home to some people who are basically "rednecks" and they are violent and dislike the success the NY couple have made of themselves. The movie is dark and very violent, but well worth watching
