Russia tread
Russia is going backwards in there social responsibilities towards equality and discrimination. Whether it is blatant racism on the football field or there ridiculous new homophobic laws this is something we need to condemn. I have major concerns around the ideological route that Russia seems to be following...major concerns. Well, not everybody simply have the same definition of "forward."Their forward might be backwards to you, it's a strange place after all :D. It's also what makes the world simply not boring. Regardless, it's up to them to decide whether they want to change things. If they want the racist attitudes and homophobic laws, they will have it. If they don't, they will oppose it. The West had their chances to address homophobia and racism themselves, so let them have it too and let them choose their stances. The West values such freedom and independence, right? Although, I don't think they want equality, or believe in such things. The Communists kinda promised equality, and they have to suffer from it. So yeah. I hear you but in many cases the world can't leave countries to decide there social responsibilities. They need influence and pressure to change. In South Africa do you think Apartheid would have ended if it wasn't for sanctions and the fact that the Western world refused to accept discrimination? Russia needs pressure to change certain laws and attitudes they have towards minority groups

UK Muslims targeted for speaking out about terror
Sorry Monte but you are misinformed. The Middle East is very violent at the moment not because Islam is inherently a violent religion, though some people interpret it like that, but because the region is going through the most profound political and social transformation in its history. This was started by the Arab Spring and it will take time. But its an important transition that took Western countries hundreds of years to get to before they became the stable Democracies they are today

What you did today
Hurlshot its not like you to say nasty things about someone Basically you are saying that Wolden is concerned with his health and his body and works hard at gym to stay in shape...that's nasty because....because ...wait that's actually not nasty at all but a complement. And one I agree with

Mozambique violence
Actually, it is. Mozambique may still have a lot of landmines about the place. But last time I was there it was pretty nice. Yes it has been very stable politically and is one of the best destinations for diving and beach holidays in the region. Many South Africans make regular weekend trips there. The people are very friendly, the seafood amazing and it has many unspoilt areas of nature to frequent. The political issues that Renamo are raising are concerning as this type of conflict could destabilize the country and all the good work done so far.

What you did today
Woldan my advice is DON'T go, you must realize that almost all those people from your school will annoy you and you won't be comfortable hanging with then and discussing the irrelevance of there lives and how it relates to you. Its not a trap but it will be an exercise in futility and frustration

US debt default
I thought the main issue was that the marketplace doesn't provide adequate healthcare for all Americans? You know the definition of insanity Walsie.."doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"

UK Muslims targeted for speaking out about terror
Nothing revisionist about my post. And one language is only appropriate to help prevent the Balkanization of the USA. Then again, you're from the People's Republic of Flake-i-fornia, so I suppose your attitude is to be expected as it's been spinning out of control for decades. You don't know where I am from, any more than your stewardship of personal ideals represent facts. I find these debates by our American members fascinating. What many people outside of America don't realize is just how varied and disparate the political discourse can be within the USA. Each state within America can be like its own little country with totally different opinions. Of course in times of real crisis the states unite...like after 9/11 What I find annoying on the various Talk Shows in South Africa is generalizations you hear about the USA from some people. Now these are people who have never been to the USA or who have bothered to study there political system and understand just how varied the political views in the USA are . Some classic ones I heard through the years are America will NEVER allow a black president ...they are racist (Obama) America wants to invade Syria because of the oil (what oil) America only intervenes in other countries when it comes to natural resources ( Really? Serbia, Somalia and many other humanitarian interventions dispute this) If you want to understand how America works read the " Confessions of an Economic Hitman" ( Yeah an exaggerated book that reflects American foreign policy 40 years ago is now how current policy works..whatever) America wants to bomb African countries into submission so they can rebuild the countries and get the contracts to rebuild those countries ( so stupid I don't know where to comment Looking at the various opinions on these forums I find myself generally aligned with the views and opinions of people from California, like Hurlshot and others. This doesn't surprise me as I do consider myself a liberal and the Californian view on social issues is what seems to resonate with me the most

What's on the idiot box...
I bought this on DVD. Originally I thought it might be a good series to show my students at the end of the year when we are done with instructional time, but I'd have to skip over quite a bit! So did we. We both loved it. Just curious: which bits? It's a bit bloody (okay Vikings - it's a lot bloody lol) but much less so than the Spartacus Gore fest. Very little nudity either. I did some digging and I'm getting mixed returns on the continuity of some parts. e.g. Aelle of Northumbria became King around 862 but the series puts him as king much earlier. I loved Vikings and I did some research around the characters and what should be coming in the next series is going to be very exciting

Anime... for adults or kids?
Your posts remind me how 30+ year guys explain why they watch my little pony or other cartoons with little girls as target audience. By Lewis Carrol: “Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up.” In essence, you're being extremely immature here. This is a good quote from Lewis Carrol and accurate I don't judge any hobby that people have. If people enjoy stamps, anime, comics, gaming, trainspotting or any other interest its all good. As long as they don't harm anyone I completely respect there right to have any interest irrespective of there age So in answer to the question Anime is for kids and adults

Add some small red potatoes and onions around the chicken. They will cook in the chicken grease and will brown nicely. So you end up with main course, two sides and desert all at once. That's clever, I like it

Malc I read on the Internet that there are restaurants in Canada that you are allowed to take the family moose to? That must be convenient
