  1. Bartie it is a terrible thing having to actually think and work out how a game functions. This is how all games use to be, you console kids have it easy
  2. You are probably finding the narrative confusing. I read a few times on there forums that people didn't know what was the purpose or reason for character x. Let us know if there anything that didn't make sense with the story
  3. Guys lets stop the criticism around grammar and the fact that English isn't everyone's first language so sometimes there comments are a little incoherent. I can understand what the Op means so I'm sure most of you can as well @ Okkoko I am currently playing IWD and I found that GOG has excellent forums that are still active around this game and the BG series. You can ask questions there on older games and the guys will respond constructively.
  4. I agree there weren't enough side missions to motivate you to want to explore Hong Kong but at least you did some exploring when you went after the idols and statues But I have to disagree around the hand to hand combat, I really enjoyed it and found it to be a nice change as opposed to having to use weapons to beat every opponent like you do in your typical SR or GTA game
  5. IMO there is an issue around how parts of the Muslim community understands political events and how they then act on them For example in South Africa most Muslims think that the West is on some insidious campaign to destroy Islam and every single time the West gets involved in any kind of political or military event I hear people phoning in on Talk Shows and quoting absurd conspiracy theories around the reasons. People defend the dictator Gaddafi and the fact he was removed from power through Western intervention, they think that Assad is a good and benevolent ruler, and say things like " the Kenyans deserved to be attacked by Al-Shabaab as Kenya invaded another country" Yet they are unconcerned with the horrific sectarian violence perpetuated by Muslims against Muslims in countries like Iraq, Pakistan and Egypt. The only time you see condemnation is when its the West getting involved So an important question is "where do some of these Muslims get there information from" that then allows them to formulate such an anti-western view In South Africa part of this is from the Mosques that they go to on Fridays. I believe most of this misinformation and diatribe is from the Mosques and what they are taught. So I would argue it is up to moderate Muslims to set the record straight on certain global developments and ensure that there is less anti-western sentiment.
  6. Wow. That's pretty close to what my list would be. They guy really likes Obsidian I agree, its very similar to what I would rate as top 15 RPG Yes its a bit of an enigma that one, except for the fact almost the entire gaming community considers The Witcher series an RPG with one or two people who exist on the periphery of this community disputing this... people like ...you
  7. http://www.pcgamesn.com/15-best-rpgs-pc So what do you guys think about this list of the top 15 RPG of all time, its not bad and seems reasonable? I am surprised they haven't mentioned Gothic at all
  8. Yeah I hear you. In most cases you'll find the USA still gets permission from the government of the country that they send the special forces into but this way there is no need for UN security council involvement. It definitely makes sense in many scenarios. Especially in the African context
  9. I have been watching the latest comments from John Boehner around the shutdown and its made me feel a little nauseous with it falseness. He is saying things like " this isn't a damn game" and ""The American people don't want their government shut down and neither do I" http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/angry-boehner-tells-white-house-shutdown-damn-game/story?id=20471542 Its probably because I'm not use to seeing Republicans like him pretending to care about the average American citizen and the impact the shutdown may have. Boehner is better suited to making the Romney 47 % similar speeches than identifying with the man on the street IMO
  10. Good article, the more I see the usage of special forces the more it makes sense. No announcements, no wrangling in the UN security council and no public over-analysis of the objective. Just a quick raid and quiet success or failure. Of course there will still be times for conventional "boots on the ground" but the current special force military strategy is effective.
  11. Excerpt from the Wikipedia page on pit bulls: "A study questioned the bull dog reputation as a dangerous breed. An electronic search of newspaper articles by Raghavan found that pit bull terriers were responsible for 1 (4%) of 28 dog-bite-related fatalities reported in Canada from 1990–2007. The study also noted that: A higher proportion of sled dogs and, possibly, mixed-breed dogs in Canada than in the United States caused fatalities, as did multiple dogs rather than single dogs. Free-roaming dog packs, reported only from rural communities, caused most on-reserve fatalities. The total number of fatal dog attacks from the 17-year period is equal to about 1 fatal attack per year, while the Clifton Report, a study that includes the 1990–2007 period in the Canadian Veterinary Journal Study, shows an average of 6 fatalities attributed to pit bulls alone annually in the U.S. and Canada. The Clifton Report notes that one limitation is that even experts may disagree as to the breed of a particular dog. In a project called the "Calgary Model," legislation addressing bad owners instead of breeds has been the focus. After implementation, which included fining the owner $350–$1,500 in dog bite cases, there was a 25-year low in the incidence of such cases. Several studies determined that pit bull owners, and owners of other "vicious" or "high risk" breeds (most commonly identified as Akita, Chow Chow, Doberman Pinscher, Rottweiler, and Wolf-mix), are more likely to have criminal convictions and are more likely to display antisocial behaviors. A 2006 study compared owners of "high risk" dogs to owners of "low risk" dogs. "High risk" dogs included “vicious” dogs by breed (e.g., pit bulls) or “vicious” actions (e.g., any dog that had bitten, attacked, or killed a person or other animal). The study determined that "high risk" dog owners had nearly 10 times as many criminal convictions than did "low risk" dog owners.[47] A 2009 study[48] and a followup 2012 study generally supported these findings." This looks like something you guys added to Wikipedia right now just to prove your point !!!!
  12. I watched the first episode and the best word to describe it is "meh" The reality for me is there are just far too many excellent series on like Sons of Anarchy, The Newsroom, Boardwalk Empire and True Blood to spend time watching something that is mediocre
  13. Sometimes I really don't get the way you think and rationalize things Malc You don't really seem to care about important topics like women's rights or the abuse of gay people in Russia but you care about some vicious dog getting killed by the USA police? In South Africa there have been numerous incidents of stray Pit Bulls being involved in fatal attacks against children, the Police in this case did the right thing and I would argue was the only responsible course of action. The sad reality is that the owners of this Pit Bull should be charged with neglect of an animal as these dogs are dangerous and cannot be allowed to roam the streets
  14. I'm lovin' it. Yeah I think its stupendous as well
  15. I tend to follow that view around sleep. In the last year I have found since I got back to gym I need less sleep. If I wake up early I generally get out of bed. This morning I woke up at 4 am. I went to sleep at 10 pm last night so 6 hours is fine for me.
  16. Who's "we"? The Ankh-Morpork guild of assassins? "The Ankh-Morpork guild of assassins"
  17. Just to clarify we are talking about BG2, are you saying that BG2 EE won't have additional areas to explore?
  18. What a disgrace if its true, I can believe it is very possible. Especially if you consider the fact that the intention of Al-Shabaab is not to rob stores but to cause maximum carnage for political reasons
  19. This weekend there is another exhibition that I will be attending, its called Rage and its the biggest and most popular gaming show in Johannesburg http://www.rageexpo.co.za/
  20. http://baldursgateii.com/buy.html So we have a release date for BG2 EE from Beamdog? Anyone mildly interested?
  21. what if it was a evil demon child? Good point, then I shall despatch the foul beast to the nether regions !!!
  22. Finish the game for Isabela, finish the game for Isabela
  23. "I don't really understand why everyone is shooting at me"...you're American? I also want to play this game, in fact this is the next game on my list
  24. Yeah I enjoyed the Risen series, it may not be a Gothic but it still has that " open world map that you need to explore to find things" vibe about it. Also there are some good non-critical quests that force you to explore the islands Piranha Bytes world building is truly impressive. They have an uncanny ability to cram a 14 story building's worth of exploration into a seemingly 1 bedroom loft's worth of space and yet make it look natural. There's a real wonder to coming around a seemingly plain looking corner that seems not to lead anywhere or even have much room for anything, and suddenly there's all this cool stuff for you to explore. Imagine if they had Bethesda's budget to work with? That's a good way to summarize the Piranha Bytes game design, good one
