Yeah the combat in SD rocked but I can understand someone not being used to it and wanting to use a gun. We are so conditioned to "shooting our way to victory" its weird when guns are not the primary combat option in games like this To be honest I found the gun combat in SD clunky and was glad when I could use my fists to beat respect into my various enemies

GFWL has never given me any major issues, I logon and it works? Same as Steam. To be honest with all these online DRM systems the only one that has been problematic is Uplay and that has only been slightly problematic where once I couldn't logon for 4 hours once. Guess I've been lucky

OMG is it just me or does that trailer look absolutely amazing !!! I need to play the first one before I attempt the sequel

Thanks Walsie, both look like good reads. Especially the Berlin one -
Oh LadyC just to let you know one of options in GTA V is to play as a house cat that has to survive in the city against your typical urban challengers, like dogs and the SPCA who try to catch you and put you in captivity I BET now you interested in this game, am I right or am I right ????

No, I am saying that people will fill in whatever blanks that exist about EA and it's level of influence over decisions (content or otherwise) with whatever narrative they believe, and they will have the conviction to believe that their assessment is correct because of the mind's ability to convince itself that the deductions it makes must be reality. People make the snap judgments (despite not actually knowing any better) about comedians copying each other and how their personal experience with a heckler was enjoyable, so therefore all comedians copy each other and comedians enjoy hecklers because it makes for a fun show. They believe this because it makes sense in their reality, even if the comedians themselves state that neither are true. Look at anubite's post, who specifically calls out that while I'm an employee at BioWare, I'm not in the super secret meetings. Yet despite that, in the same post he speaks with a high degree of conviction that his own impressions of how reality is are quite likely correct (and possibly even moreso than my own understandings, despite me actually working for BioWare). Although, another interesting observation in this thread is the idea that, since my link made a reference to rape jokes and how the comedian can understand why someone doesn't like them, some people immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was a "social justice" issue. I suspect my employment with BioWare helped people come to this conclusion as well. I consider it another example of how the mind fills in the blanks in the ways that the observer expects them too. Typically, in my opinion, to reinforce one's perspective of reality. Alan I really admire the way you can debate a point and defend the company you work for. That's the way it should be especially when a company has accomplished so much and given so much entertainment to millions of people. I love the company I work at and take pride in what it has accomplished and if someone was making slanderous or unfair comments about it I would refute them. But to use an Internet colloquialism "haters will be haters". I have come to realize that with some people even when presented with irrefutable facts they won't change there opinion and will continue to be intransigent. Its like that article you posted about people who rationalize the facts instead of reasoning when clearly there view is wrong So why bother with some debates? Also the complete irony of all this "Bioware Bashing" is that I guarantee you that 90% of people who claim to dislike Bioware and say they betrayed the principles of RPG will be playing DA:I. And you know why? Its not because EA is some manipulative Western corporation that will fool people with some marketing charade that will cost millions of dollars its because DA:I is shaping up to be an amazing and very entertaining RPG...and in essence that's the point of why we participate on these forums. We play games so why wouldn't anyone not want to play DA:I

GB I thought Tommy was an Alsatian. I didn't realize he was a Rhodesian Ridgeback. My dad has had Ridgebacks for years. They are amazing dogs and brilliant watchdogs. But they can be sneaky and steal food, for example we once left a whole roast chicken out by the stove and came back to find....it had vanished

Almost a quarter of men 'admit to rape in parts of Asia'
BruceVC replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
In that context, a sexual assault or a physical assault against a woman can simply seen as the choice of which tool the perpetrator uses to achieve the goal of establishing power over his victim. I know I said I wasn't going to say anything more on this topic but you have eloquently posted what I was trying to explain through several posts, good one And why couldn't you just have said that without posting so many links? To be honest that was exactly what I thought I was saying. I thought it was obvious my overall point but it seems at times I don't explain my point coherently. Point taken for next time -

Wait until you get a bit older and become a provider prospect for a single mom about to hit thirty. They cling like a tick at 0 dates. I'm glad I'm in "witness protection" so at least they can't find out where I live. I can second that and there are plenty of really hot single moms who are looking for security. You obviously need to accept the fact they have kids but that's not an issue for me. I generally get on really well with kids

Nah. There are probably some people in Siberia that have never played a GTA game also. Yes I'm sure there are also some people on the moon who have never played a GTA game before I don't live in Siberia or the moon and have never played a GTA game. I'm not against them on principle, but there's nothing that I've ever read about them and no trailer I've ever seen that makes me think I'd actually like them. It doesn't help that I haven't really liked the other Rockstar games I have played, either. What !!! Seriously...no Rockstar games? And you aren't even mildly interested in GTA V ?

I had a dream last night where I lead a commando unit of bikini babes, and Han Solo, to infiltrate and disrupt a conference of high level stormtrooper generals. My favourite detail was - apart from the bikinis - that a passing stormtrooper officer spotted my uniform wasn't right, and rather than raise the alarm(which is what would happen in the films) he demanded to know who my officer was so he could be punished for not checking my kit. Obviously I couldn't think of any officers' names, but while I was thinking he complimented me on not ratting out my boss! Took me to stores, and issued me with the right stuff. I felt almost guilty about being a rebel. If I hadn't woken up I believe I'd have defected with all my bikini babes. Anyway, my dream was better than yours, Ros. That does seem like an interesting dream...very thought provoking actually

BruceVC replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
Yes those are all ways that people exert power over someone but those don't apply to power over women in the context of this discussion and why men rape women. I'm having a radical thought here, what if men rape women cause they're horny? Okay that's it, I can't explain this anymore. If you guys think that rape is just about sex or the fact that guys are amorous that's fine, I can't keep making the same point with links over and over again I'm moving onto other threads, byyyyyyyyyye -

You should get yourself nice friendly, steaming mug of Horlicks. That always makes me feel better. Oh you guys probably don't get Horlicks in Sweden ( okay whatever is the equivalent, Cloudberry soup? )

Almost a quarter of men 'admit to rape in parts of Asia'
BruceVC replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
I don't think you read the articles properly, I'll quote from the first one and last paragraph. I can't see how this can be made any clearer that the main reason for rape is not about the actual sex "I believe that both the psychological and sociological perspectives regarding rape can be proven correct depending upon the individual rapist. I believe that some rapists truly do have psychological problems while other rapists feel a need to dominate women or feel sexually frustrated as a result of rejection. Regardless of the cause of rape, I don't think that there is any excuse for invading another person's body and individual space without proper consent. As far as most rape cases are concerned, I believe that both sociological explanations of sexual permissiveness and gender inequality provide the best explanation equally." -

Okay I found some more links supporting my view, the second link you should find interesting. There are many more I can post but I think I've made my point http://voices.yahoo.com/why-men-rape-psychological-versus-sociological-3179564.html http://udayms.wordpress.com/2008/10/10/why-men-rape/ http://www.pbs.org/kued/nosafeplace/articles/rapefeat.html -

Please provide links or studies that show how rape is not about power but sex and I'll discuss this with you. It should be a good debate -
So you're saying I should keep having meaningless relations with women, but as I start becoming emotionally distant, use humor to deflect the ever encroaching loneliness .. then hope for a women that will one day burst through my shell of Adonis like good looks and see the real me underneath? And of course all would be well if we stopped there, but in actuality the relationship is doomed because we are both so horribly emotionally scarred, self centered and thoroughly addicted to messing our lives up.. so we never have to face the ever growing disappointment with reality, each other and especially ourselves.. I just now realize I've seen too many romantic comedies. At least you understand the ultimate hopelessness of the reality that you live in. And here I thought I was going to have to explain it in some way

BruceVC replied to Walsingham's topic in Way Off-Topic
Yes a small percentage of rapes would be just about the sex. You should read the links I provided earlier in this thread, there are several reasons for rape and almost all of them are not about sex but around the power over women.
