I see what you mean, but they might as well say " only Chinese" because unless you speak Chinese you wouldn't be able to interact in the mall anyway

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism
I'm not a very social person, so I tend to socialize more online than anywhere else. This is my main hangout and though I don't post really frequently, I'm probably browsing the forums a couple hours a day. My other main hangouts are Kotaku and io9, and white males are the #1 discriminated group there, and the sick thing is its mostly white males that throw around the vitriol. I live in a city that has seen whites become a smaller and smaller portion of the population, with a larger and larger chinese population, and chinese are some of the most racist people in the world, especially against whites. They have chinese only malls, and its not considered racist, its considered "accommodating". The attitude towards racism against whites seems to be acceptance. And I don't know if its white guilt or whatever, but it seems like the ones who have the attitude that its somehow deserved due to top dog position of whites in history is ****ing white people. More and more we're being subtly told that we deserve to be treated like crap because our ancestors did it to others, and more and more white people are getting on board. I see more and more similarities to the Anders and Haken in The Soul of the Fire all the time. White people are more and more feeling bad about being white, and its sick. This is a very relevant post and is worth discussing further. Are you saying that there are Chinese malls in Canada where white people aren't allowed to go to? If so this is completely unacceptable and I agree. I wonder if anyone else on these forums has similar experiences? In South Africa we are sensitive around racial harmony due to Apartheid, but I am opposed to reverse racism which is what many people say Affirmative Action and Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) is. But in the South African context there is no place or area that white people can't go because its considered a black area only. So your experience around the Chinese is very interesting

Okay, that's fine. We will never agree on this point and that's fine We can agree to disagree

Okay so you genuinely feel harassed as a white, male gamer? And just to be clear this harassment is coming from feminists and gaming journalists?

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism
I don't understand why some of you guys get so offended by the characterization or generalizations about white, male gamers? I am a white, male gamer and we are least most discriminated demographic in the world. We really aren't the victims of real bigotry in almost all cases. Who cares if someone associates us with ISIS, its an utterly pointless insult because its just not true. Its like someone calling me a pygmy child molester. I don't concern myself with things that aren't valid. Why the outrage? Do you these insults really bother you

Ukraine discussion
Well you should be concerned because he pushes the boundaries of what NATO is suppose to protect and Russia is a much more dangerous military threat than any Islamic extremist group Russia's not going to attack NATO. They're jerks; not crazy. I'm not worried about jerks; I'm worried about lunatics. I agree there is no real chance of war between Russia and NATO but the crisis in the Ukraine and Putin's desire for Russian hegemony highlights just how fracturable the relationship is between Russia and NATO. The fact that Putin is not insane but makes calculated and strategic decisions worries me more

Anyone feel different on the internet?
Come now, that's not being truly for social justice where you shut up and accept it just for the sake of convenience. As for me, pretty much the same online as offline in terms of approach to things and demeanor. Its not a question of convenience, its a question of protocol and how we conduct ourselves at customers We are not suppose to argue with customers or discuss politics or other contentious issues. I'm sure its the same at all other companies ? Indeed the customer is always right and their consumption should be the primary factor in any business, those whom alienate and dismiss their customers are forgetting the basic rules of commerce. A pity game journalists cannot grasp this very basic concept, I suggest they try reading Adam Smith's the Wealth of Nations. Personally i'm a little more easy going in reality, apart from that i'm fairly much unchanged. Trust you to find a valid link between what I said and the drama around gaming journalists, I can't disagree with what you have said in the context of this discussion.

Nah, I don't see it as avoiding trouble But if you make a customer feel uncomfortable about some SJ issue, even if you are right, he is likely to complain about you afterwards. And I don't go to customers to discuss SJ issues, that's not why I am employed. So if anything its about me being professional at work

RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS
Yes in South Africa we normally use day/month/year. It makes sense since you are incrementing logically. So 6 October 2014 is 6/10/2014

Are we still on this? GG is not against equality. Everyone except Jezebel readers knows this by now. Actually, honestly, maybe some GG supporters are. Trolls are using GG as a front for harassment and some GG supporters have become militant (note how this is a bad thing for them as much as it is for feminists). Doesn't mean that GG is about it. That is, and has been all this time, a misrepresentation by biased media. Trolls do not represent GG, which is a consumer revolt from a diverse group and not an organized movement. I'm not going to say that GG is still innocent at this time. Championing Milo and Adam Baldwin despite their ridiculous views just because they are on the side of GamerGate is about as ridiculous as anything Leigh Alexander says. But on a whole, the actual consumers with good intentions are the majority of GG and their cause is just and most of all - not about holding back social justice. I don't disagree with what you have posted, but my point is not that GG is against equality. I am not suggesting that at all. All I'm saying is in RL the issue of gender equality will still be around long after GG.

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism
Actually, it looks like lots and lots of non-gamer feminists (probably from tumblr) found it relevant enough to join the flame war. That is also true, so in other words people who aren't necessarily involved in gaming are also criticizing the gaming industry

Anyone feel different on the internet?
Nice post, I am the same about the issues I am concerned about in RL and these forums But in RL I am more concerned with what I say, or rather in what environment I say it. For example I don't tell a customer who is being inadvertently racist that it is wrong because its not my place to lecture them on something they should be aware of and also there is work etiquette that I need to adhere to. But if I meet someone in a bar or club and we discuss SJ issues I am always honest, but polite, around what I believe.

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism
Unfortunately that's not completely true Campaigns and movements about SJ issues like gender equality are relevant outside of gaming and are real in many areas of society. But GG is only relevant to some gamers and the gaming industry. I am sure you can see the difference In other words SJ causes permeate all levels of society. Long after GG is gone people will still be concerned with equality.

Drama in indy gaming and games journalism
Eh, it's not a big deal. I think the title is just bothering me, it's pretty unwieldy. Other than that I can ignore the thread, since when I do check in it typically reads like a foreign language to me. The reality is this whole "drama" is utterly irrelevant to anyone outside of gaming circles. Also there are only certain people who have taken umbrage to the whole characterization of the word "gamers" The whole outrage and "evidence" of what is going on amongst gaming journalists is also very subjective. So you don't even have a consolidated view around if there is an issue about the integrity of certain gaming websites. So its no surprise to me that many people aren't too concerned about this " drama"..because frankly there isn't really one. Its just that some people have decided to make it into one and expect others to be equally concerned.

What you did today.
Are you still in Finnish Innsmouth(Finnsmouth?)? If so,they may suspect you are a fishman.Innsmouth was just a one-week thing, they ran out of lawyers for the case and had to import. I've tried to think of a suitable comparison for this place, but really can't. Some administrative center in rural ~Minnesota with a bunch of zombies on the streets? The horror here is less one of ancient decay and more of present-day desperation and hopelessness. Living Dead, I guess? Also at work, slightly hung over. If I may take a stab at a comparison... Day in and day out you go to work, going nowhere but feeling yourself slowly deteriorating into the carcass that will be there when you die. You find yourself constantly telling yourself you'll get your **** together, lose some weight, or any other wishful thinking that you never actually do. You focus on some decisions you made, thinking that if you had made a different choice you wouldn't be in this ****. You feel yourself becoming increasingly bitter, till all joy is drained from you and you're a hollow shell of a man. In the end you finally wear down to the point where you no longer care and eat lead. In short, it's the bad office job expanded into a town. Funny enough it is easy to fall into that mind set and view of your life if you let it. So you need to start somewhere around constructive changes and more importantly you need to rigidly stick to any improvements you decide on I would say the first change to make is around health and exercise. Once a person starts feeling better about themselves physically the other things, like a bad job, become easier to manage. But you need to follow any exercise program properly and try not to deviate from it, that's always a good way to implement life changes

The Ebola Threat
Realistically any country that has people arriving from Western Africa should be concerned about Ebola. But we also know that one of the main reasons for the rampant spread of the virus in Western Africa is due to the poor healthcare infrastructure and the fact that many of the people infected are not educated and are superstitious. So the victims don't understand how to properly treat Ebola This shouldn't an issue for Western countries, we know that the experimental drug used to treat several infected Westerners has worked and we also know that Western countries understand the importance of the principle of quarantine. So even if Ebola does start spreading in the USA I am confident it can be contained and addressed so that it doesn't become this epidemic
