I have absolutely no interest in showing up and posting to this thread. Undoubtedly the line of the week, nice one

Yeah you make some good points, but just because I say I am a feminist it doesn't mean I forget my manners around my lady friends or tell inappropriate jokes. I do open doors for ladies and pay for the first meal on a date. But I get what you are saying HAHA now you got me Bruce, do you realise that by paying that bill you degradet that poor girl? She is not good enough to pay on her own? You pig Nah I'm believe in old fashioned manners when it comes to those types of things, but I have no issue with her paying for the next meal if she wants to
-
But do you personally not think what they did was hurtful and offensive ?

Its funny you say that but about 3 weeks ago I was talking to this girl at a bar and I said "I'm a feminist, do you care about the struggle for gender equality" ( the truth is she was arrogant and I could tell this would annoy her ) anyway she said to me " you should speak to my friend, she cares about feminism " ( I knew she was being sarcastic ) so I went to her friend and said "hi, your friend told me you care about feminism" ....she gave her friend this annoyed look and said to me " well I will have to have a chat to her about that " It was quite funny , and made me laugh Anyway I'm going to birthday party tonight where there will be several ladies I know who take the issue of gender equality seriously. I'll ask them what they think about someone who says they are feminist and if the word has negative connotations I'm only doing this because if someone like you, who I consider a liberal and a reasonable person, also doesn't use the word feminist, even though you espouse the values, maybe my intention to keep using the word is misplaced. I'll give feedback later
-
Well, thankfully you don't have authority, then. While words on a screen can be harsh, the metric of "offensive" and "hurtful" isn't reliable as some people get bent out of shape over anything. That's if it's just a comment, if it's some sort of organized campaign that is a bit different. Of course the definition of offensive is subjective and I'm not talking about banning people anytime they say anything that is debatably offensive or I think is offensive. But in this case we have two people sending the daughter of Robin Williams digitally edited pictures of her dad dead and making mocking comments. How can you not think these people shouldn't be banned? How can you not say these types of actions are not offensive and hurtful? And Twitter has suspended there accounts and is reviewing its policies. So my suggestion around permanent banning is not that far off

Actually I was going to ask a similar question but not about NWN @ NWN_babaYaga have you considered creating Romance mods for PoE?

A small part of the RPG experience? We're getting this from you?! You judge games by their romances, Bruce. If Romances were really a "small part of the RPG experience", then by all means, Admit that they're not important. AGREE with me that they're little more than window dressing - Gimmicks that add flavor to a game and little else. Of course you won't do any such thing, because in your mind, Romances have become a fundamental, almost vital, part of an RPG experience. And you're not alone. That's the problem I'm talking about. RPGs are not soap operas. But look at Bioware. Their games are interative soap operas. One need only visit BSN for 5 minutes to see the truth behind my words. On the Bioware forums, RPG stands for Romance Player Games in the minds of it its 3 million+ members. There is no way anyone can play a modern day Bioware game and claim that Romance is 'a small part of the RPG experience'. No ..no... Stun, you have misunderstood my perspective on Romance. And I need to take some responsibility for that for not making my point clearer Romance is important but its just a form of party interaction. And party interaction is important but that's just a small part (15 % ?) of the overall RPG experience. How many times have I said " I'm disappointed that PoE won't have Romance but I'm sure the game will still be very entertaining". That's because there are many things that define the RPG experience to me more than party interaction. Things like the various races in the world , monsters, exploration, dungeons, quests, lore and narrative are more important to me than party interaction But I'm confident that Obsidian has those things covered so I don't feel the need to discuss them or say "there should be exciting and multi-levelled dungeons to explore", we know those are in the game. But since this is a Romance thread and we know Romance isn't in the game this is what I feel is a relevant discussion. So in summary of course I like Romance but its not the most important part of an RPG for me, I really thought you knew that ? -
Are you kidding me? Do you have any idea how many hundreds of people I have talked to on both sides? Israelis are very defensive of Israel, and Palestinian are very defensive of Palestine. They care more about fictional borders than the lives of the other. I agree with this to a certain degree. In South Africa as far as the general Jewish or Muslim communities are concerned there is almost no objectivity in debates around what is happening in Gaza. So everyday we are subjected to people on radio stations saying things like " the media is biased towards us " and "no one knows the truth "

That assumes that the rich want to keep the poor poor. But why should they? It's not clear that they do, it's never been the American system. I'm happy the way things are, I'm not sure I'll be happy the way they will be soon. The leftists are slowly but surely destroying this country, at least that's my belief. As far as the improved living conditions, that's mostly the result of technology and capitalism, the political system only comes into play to the extent it hinders the former. Don't worry WOD, most of you forum members who live in first world countries have no idea how bad it has to get before your countries are really destroyed. I see everything that is happening as social adjustments, nothing to be worried about. As long as your economic policies are stable and sound then things like immigration, which I understand your concern, isn't the issue you think it is Come to Africa if you want to see what real destruction of some countries looks like

Don't mean to be pedantic but the definition of the gay means both happy and homosexual and the English dictionary recognizes this http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/english/gay But there is no definition of the word feminism that says the word means sexism or men must be marginalized This is your interpretation of the word and this is simply wrong

In Mass Effect 1 it wasn't an issue, but that game had only 3 romances. You know, the amount I recommended. Mass Effect 2/3 however, had a lot more. In ME2/ME3 exploration of worlds wasn't included. Bioware decided pro-mancers wouldn't be satisfied with 3-4 romances, but instead needed more for some reason. If exploration had to go for the sake of romance spam; oh well. Mass Effect 2/3 had some major failings that I feel wouldn't exist if Bioware hadn't spent so much time and resources on romances. I think Mass Effect 1 handled romances well, but the sequels went too far. Okay I respect your opinion even if we don't agree on this one, in ME2/3 I only had one Romance arc and that probably only represented about 3% of the total time I spent playing the game compared to everything else I did. But we all have different experiences -
No Volo, I just expect people to have a modicum of respect for there fellow human beings under certain circumstances. Like the death of a family member
-
Yes that's exactly what I would do if I could influence who gets permanently banned, if for example someone goes to a Facebook remembrance about someone who died and starts making offensive or hurtful comments about the deceased I would immediately ban them permanently with no way they can ever come back with that user profile

The Official Romance Thread

It may be a small part, but it still takes a lot of development time. It has certainly played a role in the decline of in-depth mechanics in Bioware games. Also, in ME:2/ME:3 it could get in the way of role-playing to a severe degree. I think a major issue is how many romances Bioware makes per game today. Back when it was 3-4 romances per game it wasn't a high price, but now Bioware seems content to spam them. Not only does this lead to a decline in romance quality, but it takes away from the mechanics to an extent that is very detrimental to the game. If Bioware would go back to 3-4 romances per game; I think that'd be an improvement. I don't really think pro-mancers are much better off with 10 romances instead of 3-4. I'll put it like this: A few romances: Pro-mancers Anti-mancers A spam of lower quality romances: Pro-mancers Anti-mancers So are you saying that in a game like ME with all the dozens of hours of exploration, questing, planet mining, combat and non- Romance dialogue somehow the few optional Romance dialogue options is greater than all these other features? Because Stuns point is Romance has "ruined" Bioware games as if Romance is somehow become the most important or prevalent component in Bioware games. And the reality is far from what he is suggestion just based on other features outside of Romance? My point is lets not exaggerate because a particular person is trying to emphasize there dislike of Romance -
https://uk.news.yahoo.com/robin-williams-comic-stars-daughter-zelda-forced-off-192140219.html#MN8V9hp I get sickened by this type of behaviour and you guys wonder why I believe in banning people from forums who don't know how to conduct themselves as members of the human race

I have tried to explain this to you several times and I'm clearly failing, I'll try one more time In the English language we use dictionaries to determine the meaning of words. For example if you think the word "arrogant" means happy you are wrong and it doesn't matter what your personal experiences are or what you think the work "arrogant " means, it doesn't mean happy. This is irrefutable and cannot be debated I listed the definition of feminism from two of the main English dictionaries, Oxford and Merriam-Webster, and it doesn't mean sexist and it doesn't men are discriminated against. It means "the advocacy for the equal rights of women"....I am battling to understand why you cannot understand this simple fact ?

Faulty analogy. You're not describing the rock's potential, you're describing civilization's potential. Romance is not a tool. You cannot do anything with a romance but present it as it is. And therein lies the problem with your analogy. Romances suck. They're like turds. You can Sugar coat them, or gold-plate them, but they'll still be turds. And I'll say it again. Romance has a far bigger potential to ruin the RPG genre. It has already evolved enough to ruin Bioware games. Sorry to criticize your opinion again but the suggestion that something optional that is a small part of the overall RPG experience in any game could somehow " ruin the RPG genre " is ludicrous and is an egregious exaggeration ....and you know it is -

I think there's been enough repeating on this topic. The forum has a search function. And yes, if an example falls in the forest and Stun isn't around to hear it, it still makes a sound. @ Stun Lephys is right on this point, there are dozens of examples of how Romance can be implemented. But you need to do your own searching, you can't expect people to do this for you. Also my example of decent Romance definitely doesn't represent all the possible ideas so I don't want you to think my ideas are the only way Romance can be implemented in a meaningful way "“If a tree falls in the woods, and nobody is around to hear it, and it hits a mime, does anyone care?” - Gary Larson -
Mmm.....that's not completely true, you are anti-Romance in RPG, so you are anti something

Men are discriminated against in the work place, what do you mean? How is feminism sexist? As I've explained numerous times feminism is not about the marginalization of men, its about ensuring gender equality. If you don't agree with that then post some links or examples to explain your point further
-
Hah, not at all. It appeared like typical Hollywood style chestbumping of an overproduced wannabe hero spectacle. I'm sure its in line with the expectations of it's intended audience and there will be much rejoicing among them, but it certainly didn't change my mind about the game. Okay, I respect your opinion.....I think its deeply flawed...but its your right to like what you want But I'm sure you will be one of the few people on these forums who aren't excited by it.....and damn Morrigan is looking hot
