  1. The last, hmm, say, hundred years of pop culture says hi. alum you didnt find my joke funny, I thought you would find it funny because of last time?
  2. Vampire is a Serbian word (the only one to enter the "world vocabulary"), although the legend has many variations and names in Eastern European and Balkan mythology. Incidentally, the local term for Werewolf ("vukodlak" - "wolf-fur") was used interchangeably with it in folk tales. One of the terms used, "upir" points to its origin - Slavic folk belief that people who were not burnt on a funeral pyre would be unable to depart from the world and would haunt it. This was probably an explanation for the "inexplicable" in local events and the phenomenon of a body bloated with gas looking ruddy and "alive". Everything else is layering on top of this (alleged) base legend. Since there are very few sources of Slavic mythology, if any, that's probably the best explanation there is. Its interesting that bit of Serb folklore How old is Serbia? Where did Serbs come from originally and why is there not much Slavic mythology And what is the definition from a European view of a Slav? I have said this before but I never understand some of this EU historical acrimony....the view that East European people should feel they are looked down on by some people in the EU
  3. Out of the blue, but, never would describe you as condescending in the past. I mean, considering the crowd of people here, you're not condescending. I want out of this universe LET ME OUT Well I would think I'm much less condescending but its impossible to really know because its very hard to know when I''m being condescending unless people point it out...which I ask people to do yet only some people do
  4. Well, vampires are a sex metaphor. Duh. You sure? Maybe in Hungary.....people in the rural areas still believe in Vampires I assume ? What. I'm just teasing you...remember last time when you assumed I was generalizing about crime in Hungary
  5. This really doesn't fit Trump. I agree...thats why I said to Volo we need to try to put all this Trump criticism in context I am opposed to him but I wont support this hyperbole
  6. I'm very serious, I did 1 year. Last year of real conscription The SA army wasnt like what you guys did in the USA ....you can all be proud of what you did as the cause was just and your country supported you But in places like Rhodesia and South Africa and the various wars that white people fought the end goal was blurred and not as reasonable. Yes Communism was a real threat which was why the USA and the UK turned a blind eye to Apartheid because the greater threat was Communism and the Apartheid regime did fight actively against Communism But I can tell you some very interesting stories about those wars if you interested. For example the Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI ) which were a special force infantry battalion used a military strategy called Fireforce to effectively fight and defeat literally thousands of USSR and Red Chinese black Rhodesians who were all trained by the Communists https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireforce But what most people dont know is the RLI had contingents of American soldiers who had been in Vietnam and felt betrayed by the US capitulation to Communism. So they came to Rhodesia and joined the RLI...they brought huge skills and advice they had learnt in Vietnam
  7. *cough* appeal to emotion *cough* Well, vampires are a sex metaphor. Duh. You sure? Maybe in Hungary.....people in the rural areas still believe in Vampires I assume ?
  8. I use to work as a waiter at Pizza Hut, in 1993 I stupidly went to the army and it was the last year of conscription and the election was the next year so the SA army was in a state of utter confusion....imagine being told " the ANC is your enemy, the ANC is communist....you have to protect your country from this evil " ...imagine being in the army for 20 years fighting in places like Angola, covert assassinations, cross-border raids, real battles with Cubans ideologues and Russians ....then you get told " the ANC is now not the enemy ...you have to now accept them " The thing about the human psyche is it can deal with a lot. In war you can commit atrocities if its for the greater good but then to get told that what you did is now wrong and the enemy you killed will be governing the country is not something every person can mentally cope with So anyhow I was surrounded by loads of angry, confused and yet still feeling some sort of commitment to the country soldiers. It was rough for me...I wasn't suited for the army as my mother had spoilt us and I wasnt use to having to take care of myself So after the army I took a gap year and worked at places like Pizza Hut ...I was fired!!! And you know why....talking too much to waitresses and my friends !! So you see Gfted1 even back then I was misunderstood by civil society
  9. Out of the blue, but, never would describe you as condescending in the past. I mean, considering the crowd of people here, you're not condescending. Thats interesting, I always assumed you thought I was condescending from that time 2133 called me " thoroughly revoltingly condescending " and the reality is most of my family are very condescending. They think they being clever but we cant tell the difference so I try really hard to not be condescending but its hard because as I said sometimes on forums I cant tell the difference In your view of the Internet and general debates do you think these forums are condescending? Its funny I cant read people on the Internet..so I have no idea if my view is biased. One thing about these forums is NO one likes admitting they wrong about anything
  10. But guys did you read that link I posted, the strength of the US economy is often overlooked by many Americans on this forum I get real economic data from the financial sector due to my work and this positive news from the USA often is ignored. I think its because of the focus on perceived political and ideological differences around your political parties ...people on both sides are gaining real supporting by saying things like " we need to change the system....its broken " (I'm just simplifying the rhetoric ) @ Gfted1 Funny enough I do support drones in certain military examples, why must American soldiers die in hell holes like Yemen or Pakistan. No send in drones, these extremist groups don't wage conventional war but they think crossing borders will protect them The drones are a perfectly understandable military tactic
  11. Malc I need to ask you that same question because you are honest and observant about certain forum behavioral trends Have you noticed I'm less condescending than when I was first was active on these forums , now before you say " no you same " like last time please take your time and think about how I use to be ?
  12. Okay and just to be clear are you saying you feel that Russia and China have become globally more influential than the USA? Is this because of Syria for example ?
  13. Yes I hear that view from many people I dispute that but I don't feel like a debate about that now so I just want to ask you one thing , what in your opinion would be one example of how the USA is internationally weaker?
  14. Are sure you watched it to the end? I am talking about the " new " Dracula movie? What didn't you like about it?
  15. However, he's a communist, even if he doesn't realize it, so he get's it wrong even when he's on to something. Here's the correct way to do it: She is smoking hot ....Vampire cult sign me up Vampires suck. I would that is whole point in vampirism Elerond I just wanted to let you know I didnt forget about that EU post I was going to make ....I just was unsure if I should post it, I'm worried it may be misunderstood So please dont think I say things and then just forget about them
  16. However, he's a communist, even if he doesn't realize it, so he get's it wrong even when he's on to something. Here's the correct way to do it: She is smoking hot ....Vampire cult sign me up I'd give it all up in my last heartbeat to go down on 1996 Salma, and never regret. Easily one of the hottest women, in one of the hottest scenes in 100+ years of cinema. #VampSalma4eva! See! We can agree on at least one thing BruceVC. Vals I sure we agree on many things but the reality is our discussions here just happen to be dichotomous....but its a forum and that is normal, For me its never personal, its just a debate about topics like politics Going back to the Vampiresses debate I have a thing for hot Vampiresses..its actually quite common to be find them alluring and seductive https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcEe1rS37BI
  17. Guys I have been grappling with the reality that many of our American members dont like Obama and some people are opposed to Hilary becoming president for exactly the reason she plans to continue the Obama legacy amongst other things I firmly believe in the Obama legacy because I see how the USA has changed over the last 8 years and despite criticism it is now weak I believe the USA is stronger for a variety of reasons But when I have asked American forum members " why don't you like Obama" there are always a number of reasons that some I just dont understand why they are an issue,,but thats fine I dont need to agree Anyway I want to start debunking several negative or spurious views some people may have of the USA Please post any opinions you have of the USA., positive or negative So here is an accurate and significant read about the real strength of the USA economy....yet Trump thinks the USA is weak economically and of course left wing hyperbole by Sanders also feels the need to criticize http://www.newsmax.com/FareedZakaria/Economy-Sanders/2016/03/11/id/718598/
  18. However, he's a communist, even if he doesn't realize it, so he get's it wrong even when he's on to something. Here's the correct way to do it: She is smoking hot ....Vampire cult sign me up
  19. That's impossible....you have obviously just forgotten I also had a Garfield as a young person and you know what a real man I am... You can always tell a real man by the amount of respect he has on forums
  20. I also had Garfield stuffed animals....I use to have lots of teddy bears when I was young Because my mom raised us I actually ended feeling obliged keeping the bears, which were on my bed, much longer than I should have. Every time I said to my mom I wanted to maybe move them off my bed she would say something like " you dont want to grow up too quickly " so I ended up having numerous teddy bears on my bed till I was 12-13
  21. Of course I wont take offense, I appreciate constructive criticism. I believe in always trying to refine my posting etiquette Its just I am a 0 and 1 person, I need examples for a point to resonate so I understand the context but I appreciate the point anyway
  22. If I recall correctly, wasn't Wade Boggs a participant? Bruce, my impression of you is that you're really big on labels and pigeonholing people. More than anyone else on these boards anyway. Well that seems to be the impression I create, despite the fact I really didnt want to offend GD What are other examples of me labeling people off the top of your head?
  23. Yes but its not as simple as just saying " hey guys lets just throw all illegal immigrants out the USA "....I assume you dont need me to raise the obvious social and political challengers that this type of view faces ? And I am talking about Latinos here...I'm not sure who else would consist of millions of illegals ?
  24. I never thought of you as an avid reader ....living out in the wilderness, having no creature comforts like electricity and paying homage to primordial earth spirits Do people generalize about people like you and assume you are what I suppose is a redneck, do they assume you are not informed of current events for example? It must be fun taking them apart with your impressive knowledge of many things I am always either reading a book (or two) or looking for my next one. I have well over 1000 on my shelves here and about 150 or so on my Kindle. All kinds. From Wheel of Time to War to Peace and de Tocqueville's Democracy in America to the one I just mentioned in the Election thread. I even have a few rare collectibles in the mix. I'm an educated man Bruce. I drive a pick up truck, and I live in a house way out in the sticks. I'm adept at firearms and farming that's true but I can also speak in complete sentences most of the time. I'd hope I make the correct impression on people I meet. Yes, did I not say you are very well informed. I hope I didn't offend you ?
  25. Well thats the one thing I think I do understand, you see how criminal activity in the Latino community is almost ignored and bleeds through to impact other Americans right ? My point is people come here illegally, which leads to a ton of other crimes. For some reason you think we should just let them, so I don't understand why you think democratically passed laws don't need to be enforced. "Latino" has nothing to do with it, there are illegal aliens from all over the world. Well let me ask you a more relevant question, what other Western country has engaged in serious endeavors to force immigrants to leave ...what Western country has tried to get millions of immigrants to leave? And lets not bring Australia into this with there appalling policy of sending immigrants to that jungle hell hole island
