actually, now I remember that I have Yager (the game) somewhere still, and I've never beaten it. I remember reviewers praising it. so I'm cautiously optimistic about this new SpecOps from them
-
considering that the last 6 or so SpecOps games were released on consoles, this new thing is probably aimed at the console crowd and not at people like me.
-
in 1998 there were only 3 military games worth playing. Delta Force (great MP), Rainbow Six (great tactical gameplay) and SpecOps. this will be the first PC SpecOps game since SpecOps 2, wow

I loved the first SpecOps game, I don't even remember what was so good about it... anyway, will keep a close eye on this

If Obsidian + Kickstarter = ?
sorophx commented on Chris Avellone's blog entry in Chris Avellone's Blog
OK. I can think of a few games I'd like to see Obsidian make, but I am not sure how much time and money they'd require. so, from a perspective of a person with no experience in game development I'd have to go with either of these: - a game concept similar to how NWN turned out, i.e. an RPG toolset for creating mods and custom campaigns with a light campaign thrown in that could serve as a tutorial on campaign making; with a possibility of playing it in co-op (basically, DSIII only without voiced characters and the need to license an IP); - an Alpha Protocol stand-alone expansion pack; if "Alpha Protocol" cannot be used for some reason, then it can be a new IP that works exactly like AP, only without the boss fights and shooting; play on AP's strengths, make it similar to LA Noire only in a spy setting, with a silent protagonist! - Icewind Dale III made with Onyx; - the Fallout game happening during Resource Wars in Europe; - Pretty Princess RPG; - a PC port of that game from your office where we get to play as Chris Avellone et al.; basically, if it's to be a full-blown RPG, I would understand if you guys were releasing it as a series of DLCs funding each separately, with an Ultimate Edition planned somewhere down the road -
SOCIALISM is great. too bad I'll never live under it. and why aren't we discussing MCA's tweet about Obsidian and Kickstarter? I asked for an Alpha Protocol expansion pack
-
no they shouldn't, because the page clearly states what people will get for giving more than $15. one guy donated 10 grand to his favorite game designer, why is it so hard to live with?

Obsidian is working on project for leading animation franchise

apples and oranges afaik. producers make sure everything is organized, while designers actually design stuff. -
Neverwinter Nights 2 first timer, anything I should know?

that's called 'kiting' and is a perfectly viable strategy -

it's too much work for some of us. I like to be in control of everything in my games. and when a game tries to control me... well, I guess that's why I didn't like Persona 3 although, I do agree that's an interesting mechanic. I just wished there had been a checkbox in the options somewhere, to enable "whimp mode" -

what I couldn't stomach in MotB was the Hunger meter. god I wish there had been a way to disable it -

I played as Sorcerer, kicked the crap out of everything. just keep in mind that during some portions of the game you'll be forced to use certain party members so pick a class for yourself that is powerful enough to hold its own in almost any party setup. oh, and during the last battle with the Big Boss your party will turn on you if you fail the Loyalty/Influence check or somesuch thing (they either leave the battle or become aggressive, like, almost every one of them, so it can turn pretty ugly). so might want to try to be on good terms with everybody as much as you can. I understand it's a spoiler somewhat, but that battle can be incredibly hard and frustrating, so better save you some -

http://inventwithpython.com/ http://www.atariarchives.org/basicgames/ also check out this thread: http://rampantgames.com/community/viewtopic.php?t=697&sid=96c33a786e83dd51e95fad791997000a anyway, your best bet would be a good modding tool for an existing game, make a finished mod for starters. it will get you familiar with scripting and how dialog trees work. you could try to use RPG Maker, I know a lot of games made with it, it's fairly simple. Game Maker is even better because it familiarizes you with actual programming without having to learn any languages. when you're done with Game Maker, you should probably begin searching for a better tool, by this time you will have hopefully finished a few projects and gotten familiar with the basics. I've been hearing a lot of good things about Unity

I'm pretty sure this is Xenforo, which a lot of companies use to run their forums.

holy crap, that's too basic, I can't be expected to pay attention to people's names. I usually identify posters by avatars
-
why add so much information to the left column? Gender, Interests etc. would it be too much to ask to remove everything except the avatar, title and location? and where do I disable signatures...
-
anybody play ArmA2 (ACE/ACRE) on a regular basis?
-
quotes are borked in my browser at least (latest Firefox ver.) and finally the Like button! xenforo is pretty cool, eh

so I suppose there's now an even bigger and more advanced shelter somewhere else, that they decided to make this one's location public knowledge?

that's exactly why I'm mentioning it. they had payed for Halo ads, they hired Halo MMO's lead designer who is now LD on Titan. and Activision published Bungie's games IIRC
