depends on the chassis, once I bent the "legs" of a CPU because I'd forgotten to place the nest into the right position, spent the next 30 minutes straightening them back with a needle

make sure the CPU and motherboard are compatible (duh!). also, do a little research beforehand and try to buy a MB that hasn't outlived its time yet, meaning a CPU upgrade in 2-3 years will be viable (also read up on its overclocking capabilities). make sure the MB has enough slots (for two videocards for example, if you're into that kind of stuff). also, my personal preference - a MB with an integrated videocard, just in case. you might want to keep using your RAM with it, so check if the MB supports it. make sure your PSU can deal with new wattage (if you're not buying a new unit). I have built a number of PCs, nothing too complicated. just read a bunch of reviews and pick a motherboard that suits your needs, then go from there. the secret is in the maintenance

it's a bit different with music. there's a lot of really obscure bands that never released more than 500 copies of their only record, which is not getting re-released, and I'm not going to spend days on ebay hunting for ridiculously priced used LPs (while in the US it's possible to find the same record in the bargain bin for 2 bucks, on ebay it could go for 30-50 USD). besides, I don't have a turntable. so it leaves me with two choices. download a ripsome collector kindly made available on blogspot, or just forget about it. or I could contact the band and hope they have the master tapes somewhere and can send me a digital copy for a small sum. but let's be realistic, what are the chances of that happening
