  1. on the one hand, XCom was dragged through the mud many many times, so Firaxis's take on it can't be that bad. on the other, look what Fallout 3 did with the Fallout name. the new generation of players won't care about the original, they'll be all, "wow, what a nice game, Firaxis is the best studio ever, they had the guts to make a true tactical game in the age of shooters. oh wait, it's a remake? ah, who cares, I probably won't be able to run the old game on my system".
  2. works for me
  3. oooh. now you're making me want to install it...
  4. to you, yeah. but I'm with Gorth on this one, they removed one thing I liked the most about XCom - base management. and with it, I assume, the financing from different countries depending on your performance over their territories. there was something special about building different bases in different parts of the world, making sure they were run efficiently and defending them from aliens. that's the main reason I never tried Apocalypse. it was too different from the original, while some may say it was better in many instances
  5. I was convinced DEHR used Unreal. interesting...
  6. so, is the guy in question actually a game journalist?
  7. well, I should probably tell you that there actually is a dev team, that's working on DayZ. rocket is working for Bohemia Interactive anyway, and some of the guys there help him out with ArmA2's source code from time to time. rocket is planning to make DayZ a stand-alone game. as to your doubts whether or not you should buy ArmA2 just to play this mod: yes, you should. because a) it's cheap ($12), b) ArmA2 is a very solid MP-shooter on its own, c) you seem to like zombie games, and DayZ is the best zombie game currently. War Z looks awful judging by those screenshots, but it's still very early to tell.
  8. didn't Alpha Protocol use the same engine?
  9. the hardware is there, the software is there. why wouldn't they want/expect developers to take advantage of both? nobody cares if the devs don't have the resources. besides, "good graphics" doesn't necessarily mean "photo-realistic 3D". if I had to choose between two absolutely identical games gameplay and overall design wise, but one with bad/mediocre graphics/art and the other - with good, I'd go with the latter.
  10. I suppose Charlize Theron was too expensive for Cage? What's wrong with Ellen Page? She's a bit overrated, not really talented nor beautiful, she is a poster child for boringly average. Maybe she will do better on another medium like let's say...video games. at least it's not Felicia Day... ugh (woohoo, a quote train) I'm pretty sure initial sales are the only ones that really count
  11. critics loved it IIRC
  12. Will Wright: "Console guys are running scared"
  13. I have a bunch (100+) of SNES images stored somewhere, I knew they would eventually disappear from the web :\
  14. it's funny how you summarize it with "40 hour main quest", as if it's indicative of the game's overall quality :D
  15. because of the game, of course
  16. Funcom is doomed
  17. I have some version of it from some bundle, will try it out, thanks for the post
  18. I've heard rumors of a Steam console being in development
  19. is he holding that AT4 the wrong way?
  20. what about that XBLA title, or w/e?
  21. looks a lot like Hellgate: London
  22. hmm, Receiver looks interesting. your next step should be to buy ArmA2 Operation Arrowhead and install ACE and DayZ, which work very much the same
