finally farmed enough gold for an armed Vodnik, which is a beast. two days and two briefcases of gold bars later we have an armored all-road amphibious vehicle with not 1 but 2 PKP machine guns (Russian 7.62 mm). nothing can stop us on land

depends on which one you mean. Standalone - absolutely not (yet). it's still very raw, unfinished and the release will happen only in 2015, I reckon. it hardly has any features and a ton of bugs still, I find it unplayable in its current condition. not worth the money mod (meaning buying Arma 2 with Operation Arrowhead) - yes, because it has 10+ variations of DayZ absolutely free (so buying Arma games with a discount is the only spending you'll make) this is from DayZ Epoch, where you can build bases (like in Minecraft/Rust). also, it's not on a vanilla island, this is also a mod called Panthera. I love it. it differs a lot from regular DayZ: other than base building and being able to play on other islands it has roaming AI patrols (where enabled by server admins, they shoot players on sight depending on reputation with them), loot drops (for example you can find locks to secure doors with, so no one can open them), lockable vehicles (you get a key you can make duplicates of), and AI high risk/high reward side missions (ambush a convoy, clear a bandit hideout etc.). also, what attracts me the most is the fact that unlike DayZ in Epoch anyone can run a server, because server side files are open source, which means each server has its own database, which means people's characters are tied to certain servers, which prevents them from: combat logging, hopping servers in search for loot, playing on several servers simultaneously to try and mislead any players that threaten their base etc. it also has two types of currencies (gold and silver) that you get from AI bosses, traders or other players, you can spend your money on stuff you can't craft or just don't want to farm for (like high-end vehicles, rare ammunition etc.) Epoch is what DayZ standalone will one day become. and since you can get Arma 2 Combined Operations very cheap, I'd highly recommend only trying Epoch for now (once you do, even if you don't like Epoch, there are tons of other DayZ mods like Overpoch, DayZero etc.)

some people playing DayZ have too much time on their hands

texture resolution isn't everything, guys. from what I've seen in videos Watch Dogs' graphics aren't that good when you consider stuff that really matters, like dynamic lighting and reflections

saw two very similar movies this weekend: 3 Days To Kill and Non-Stop in 3 Days To Kill Kevin Costner plays Liam Neeson, an aging CIA agent who traded in his family for his job. actually, that was the only reason I wanted to see this thing: to see how Costner would fare. and I have to tell you he did great. his character is not easy to sympathize with, but when the **** hits the fan on screen you just know you're in for a treat, because now Liam Neeson Kevin Costner has to kick serious ass. a lot of people will go in with wrong expectations, though. because the trailer made the movie look like an action flick, and it barely is. it's a comedy, and Costner is the only source of its comedic moments (he's very good in those, I have found). but apparently Costner and his co-star Amber Heard are the only ones in this production who realize that (and that other dude who acts as comedic relief). the only good dialogue happens between them as well. the director didn't do a very good job with the action moments, the script is full of holes, the plot is retarded. and yet, I had fun, because Kevin Costner. if you want to hear a few good jokes and a ton of lame ones, see Costner break people with his bare hands, and look under Amber Heard's skirt, this movie is for you. in Non-Stop Liam Neeson plays Liam Neeson, an aging CIA agent ex-cop who traded in lost his family and now is married to his job. this movie is very interesting, even though it loses steam in the second half. first part plays out like a crime mystery (like an Agatha Christie's book). Neeson is an Air Marshall on board of an airliner, where he gets a message from an anonymous source that every 20 minutes one person on his plane will die. and then mysteriously people do begin dying one by one. so it's up to Liam Neeson to uncover the plot behind these deaths and figure out how he plays into it all. like I said, the second half is weaker, mainly because the bad guy looks more like a caricature. but it's still a very fun movie because it is directed so well. initially I just went in to look at Neeson break faces, and he does. but the supporting cast is good, the pacing is near perfect (tension keeps building up, with a satisfying gun fight at its climax), hand-to-hand fights are choreographed very well (as always with Neeson). it's a good movie all around. maybe I'm biased because I liked Passenger 57, but this is the best action movie, set in an airplane, in a very long time.

I had a chance to meet Ovechkin once, had a chat with him for an hour or so right after Russia had won some tournament (World Championship maybe, I forget). he is a VERY chill dude, kind and generous. he probably left us a 1000$ in tips that day

Arma can be really weird at times I guess it's stuff like this that turns people off, their loss I say

Second sentence from the bottom: http://www.belsimtek.com/news/217/ hmmm, I was under the impression that was already set in stone, not "considered as a possibility"

the usual suspects: Arma and DCS on our way to the LZ LZ turned out to be hot, spot a difference between the two pics getting ready for a mission with 2 of my buddies

weak-ass excuses. especially considering the fact that a lot of people use SSDs, and disk space is precious
-
yeah, thanks a million, ShadySands! I wanted to play Dragonsomethingsomething badly, since people have been generally very positive when talking about it
-
oh, I could definitely use those

yeah, waiting for that one as well, saw posts on the ED facebook page. but feel kind of sorry for the guys working on the F-18C mod for DCS, now their work will be missed by a lot of potential users https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=we8zvRWD8fo EDIT: oh, actually I spoke too early, this is an F/A-18E, while DCS is working on the F/A-18C, so I guess I'll be using both when they come out

no trackIR here, I'm just so used to switching from mouse free look and back that it almost happens by itself did you notice any big differences with the F-15C now that it has a new flight model? while I was getting used to it it seemed different, but now it's again the same arcade-y feeling. the trim doesn't work, it handles trimming itself, it's as easy to land as always, unlike the A-10C. I don't fly the Eagle that much tbh, but so far the only major difference is with the air intakes that adjust their angle (again all by themselves, without any input from me) I have heard rumors of the F-15C being released as a standalone, with a much more advanced model, that's what I'm looking forward to

speaking of aircraft, had some fun in DCS tonight. first we harassed some AI pilots flying near our base turned out, losing all your tail doesn't mean you can't fly if you're AI... or your nose. the Eagle sure is majectic... until you try and land without gears or get hit with a rocket but, on a good note, I finally figured out the key to assist while locking on with Mavericks on the A-10C. prior to today I had to manually control their camera to try and get a good lock (anyone who's seen its camera feed knows it's a PITA). but today I finally figured out how to force them to lock if slaved to my targeting pod's tracked target. time to replay those more difficult missions it seems

I love Brutal Legend for its dialogues. they're hilarious. and I don't care about gameplay, if it was a cartoon it would be my favorite

yes. stop denying the truth

guys, I don't want to sound like a broken record, but... having character progression doesn't make a game an RPG, that's like RPG 101. you all should know better, and you should be ashamed. story also doesn't make it, nor does exploration. nor the combination of the three. what makes a game an RPG is the ability to make choices, meaningful choices during the course of the game, choices that will have consequences, that will matter. that's the meat and bones of ay tabletop RPG, and a computer/video game that doesn't have C&C is not an RPG, no matter how you spin it. deal with it.
