  1. I want to make a case for a duck pet. We get cosmic piglets, but not ducks?
  2. Actually, legally, there's no difference. Either way, all you really have is a piece of paper saying you may use the software. Now, functionally, you are entirely correct, and honestly, that's all that really matters. Sometimes, I just can't wait for Valve/Steam to bite it (however unlikely at the moment) just so I can drink the delicious tears of everyone that bought into the DRM scheme like willing little slaves. This poll illustrates the failure of democracy.
  3. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, "going gold" matters about as much as a fly in a snowstorm these days. They can keep polishing up until release (and, honestly, hopefully beyond). I would be surprised if there's no "day 1 patch" waiting for those that install with the discs, assuming that they actually manage to ship those discs on release, anyway. Personally, I'm hoping for at least two more beta builds; one in a week or so, and another in early-to-mid-February, followed possibly by a release candidate shortly before release, preferably early March.
  4. Are you referring to DAI by any chance? Talk about a pig dressed in lipstick. Really looking forward to Pillars, no more dumbed down console games ftw. Eeh, it's no DAI, and you're right that it's not really console-y.. but whether it's dumbed down or not really depends on what you're comparing it to, sadly. I was hoping that PoE was going to be a real step up in terms of the decline of the genre, but it's not so much a step up as just a much smaller step down than we're used to. So far, that is. There's still a few months to go, but by now.. hrm, yeah.
  5. Deus Ex doesn't use xp at all, haven't played bloodlines, ME2&3 are pretty linear. ....what are you even talking about?
  6. Honestly now, let's try to focus for a second. The big question is. Will there be ducks in the expansion?
  7. I guess the system works as long as you outnumber your opponents, but if you outnumber your opponents, you really have to ask yourself if you need the engagement system to begin with. And it's a poor system if it's going to break down as soon as there's more than 6 opponents on the screen.
  8. DRM-free for life. I have zero understanding for people that choose Steam over GOG.
  9. But I totally love ducks! D:
  10. There'll apparently be a Pillars of Eternity Nexus-site, so I'd be surprised if they don't wind up there. Not that I know, and Sensuki will probably answer himself, I'm just sayin'.
  11. Hey, don't knock the bridge district murder quest. It may be one of the better written pieces of the game simply due to its sheer weirdness, assuming you're clever (and lucky) enough to see it to its actual conclusion. LOL Yeah the footwear dispenser. But the Asylum's got a bunch of the real goods. Bag of Holding; Ring of regeneration; a ton of the 7th and 8th level spell scrolls that aren't that easy to find in Athkatla; Staff of Thunder & Lightning. etc. If you're playing a rogue, Athkatlan Guards actually carry around heaps of 7th- and 8th-level spells. Pickpocketing is ridiculously easy in BG2. The only spells they don't carry around seems to be 9th-level spells. And I assume you know, but Ribald in the Adventurer's Mart also carries a Ring of Regeneration that can be pickpocketed. Sweet lewt.
  12. We are looking into creating variations on current portraits. We want to get in as many portraits as possible, but it takes a lot of time to do ones that are of a high quality level. Do you have a general idea, a set "goal" for each, say, "three per gender per (sub)-race"? Anything along those lines? Also, are you still working on more character customization settings? Very personal opinion, I realize, but for example the female deathlike has less gaudy (more helmet-like) heads than the male deathlike (and a portrait to match) and vice versa (I am sure someone wants to play a female deathlike with a truly monstrous shape). We would like to make a few variations per portrait that already exists. As for additional portraits, we have a list of them that would be a bit more ambiguous and could work for multiple races. Things like helmed or hooded faces. Doesn't work for godlikes! Because of the no-helmets thing. But seriously though, that's really great to hear, it didn't occur to me before that you can do it like that, but sometimes you just want to have that knight-helmet thing going on.
  13. I have no idea who did them, but the two deathlike portraits that are in the game at the moment (1 male, 1 female), whomever made those (and some others, I just mention the two because they are easily found for reference, but there's several in the same style) should have their salary doubled and just start churning portraits out like mad, because damn those look nice. I'm not sure who did what.

  15. Ideally, everyone should be able to initiate with all their abilities.
  16. Honestly, as much as I love Baldur's Gate 2, this is one of the things I really think that Baldur's Gate 2 did terribly. Baldur's Gate 1 had an amazing main quest, that made me feel like I was on a mission to find things out, piece things together, to solve a puzzle and find the answers. Baldur's Gate 2 drops everything in your lap and continously tries to dangle two very loose motivations in front of you; finding Imoen or finding out what Irenicus wanted with you. But it never really explains to you why you'd care. Not really, or rather, when it tries, it just simply fails. Much of the main quest in Baldur's Gate 2 feels like a chore, a quest that was forced upon you, but you don't really *care* about it. Parts of it is really well done, but the storytelling itself as a whole is.. meh. Utter meh.
  17. Let me just take the time and really thank you, BAdler, for sticking around the thread, throwing some feedback, or even just talking a bit. It is well and truly appreciated, and as a part-time cynic with a more than bitter streak, I feel it was important to actually say that. Credit where credit is due, you're awesome, and I know that I and others really appreciate it. Thank you.
  18. Am I the only one bothered by the fact that it's called "Knock Down" and not "Knockdown"? I don't care which is grammatically correct, there's something that just feels wrong to me. But they still call Godlikes.. "Godlikes", so I guess.. yeah.
  19. How would that even work? PoE has a system for saves where they are sorted based on what character you saved with, so if I have a character named Eldoth, all his saves get sorted under "Eldoth", while a character named "Safana" will be sorted under "Safana". Currently, this works for everything except Quicksaves and Autosaves. This means that if you play one character, auto-save and quicksave, switch over to another, when that other character quicksaves and autosaves, the first character's saves will effectively be lost. The solution is for every listed character to have their own dedicated Quicksave and Autosave slot. In fact, it's a bloody necessity, imo.
  20. Ack, one month off! Still, I should get something, I pinned it right at the 26th! Still, awesome to get some news. I wasn't expecting this at all. For days now I've jumped a little bit at updates in the Announcement section just to see that it was another meaningless post. Going in today, this took me by complete surprise. March 26th. Loading up on the crisps, the soda and the caffeine.
  21. I think the concept of a movement system is outdated. What if we simply press where we want to go, and then the toons go there? We don't need any systems! *shakes fist*
  22. Is it your hope that, by repeatedly pointing out that it's exploitable, Sawyer's hate of "exploits" will win out over his love for easymodo game mechanics and he'll end up binning the Engagement system? Could work.
  23. Think of the poor modeler that is now sitting there, far into the night, trying to work out how to make the cloaks not clip into the weapons, without breaking the system, tearing their hair out, tears in their eyes, because it's on the QA List of issues. You're a harsh master, Sensuki.
  24. I can see how Blunderbuses should have a bigger penalty than Pistols and Arequebuses. I personally think that this is an issue with DT Reduction and Accuracy being way too valuable. How blunderbuses can't have Interrupt is beyond me, though. I imagined that they'd have the highest Interrupt of all.
